Hi. I'm a new member today and excited about it. I've been playing about 4.5 years. It wasn't until after I raised my family that I had extra time to join my husband and son in golf. Initially I participated a series of free ladies clinics to learn more about the game so I would be better prepared to help a couple of clients (I own an advertising and design agency). In the process I found I really liked golf. I surprised my husband when I played in my first tournament with borrowed clubs only 1 week after completing the clinics. I was invited to play in second tournament 2 weeks later and remember taking the shrink wrap off my clubs as we played. I was definitely hooked. I enjoy being outdoors and live at our home course so golf was a natural fit for another activity I could enjoy with my family. Besides just playing, I love watching nature around the course, camaraderie with new friends, and practicing (what I call research into what works/doesn't plus learning new things). I get bored playing the same course so we enjoy experiencing other venues - close by and traveling to get there.
My current GHIN is 25.5. Each milestone seems to push me to the next. I'm challenged that golf did not come easy but keep slowly improving.
My son suggested that I join MyGolfSpy as a way to explore and learn more. I'm ready to try some new clubs but not sure what. I want to read interesting and informative reviews by others.
Our home course is The Club at Colony Creek in Victoria, Texas. I like to play in all kinds of weather, except lightning. I even think it's cool to look at how raindrops fall down around my club and hit the ground. South Texas summer temperatures can be quite brutal on our bodies and the grass. Early morning and late evening golf is great.
My user name is a reflection of me. I'm a graphic artist who now plays golf. I seem to doodle on everything around me including my golf balls. Currently my balls sport 2 large angel wings. I find that my balls are easy to identify since the drawings wrap part of the way around the ball.

I was just in Victoria this week!!! Wow! I played a public course there, Riverside, and enjoyed it. I felt like I was in the middle of nowhere Texas, though. I was there working with an ophthalmologist in surgery.

Howdy South Central Spys;

I love golf, I love playing it, watching it, talking about it, reading about it, well you get the idea...lol

I live in Houston Texas where we can usually play golf year round! I've played golf since junior high. Never been very good but very passionate about the game, if I didn't have a family and a job maybe I could be better. But do play a couple times a week locally and belong to Bay Forest Golf Club. I'm currently a 17 handicap. We've had an incredibly wet winter season and has been hard to get much practice in this year but spring is now upon us and I'm ready to get some work in to lower my handicap.

I'm a Veterinarian and I live with my wife (she's a golfer and has a hole in one...I don't) and my 11 year old daughter ( she's starting to take golf a little more seriously).

I found Mygolfspy when looking for Driver comparison ratings and I've been hooked on the content every since. Don't know any other spys but  I think that will change

I'm originally from Tulsa Oklahoma but I've lived in Houston now for 12 years. I play Bay Forest, Timber Creek, Wild Cat, Eagle Pointe and Southwyck golf courses the most. All are very respectable public courses.

Last Summer we took a family vacation to the Monterey Peninsula in California, stayed at Spanish Bay Inn and spa. One of the highlights of my life !  Played Spyglass and Pebble Beach !  I was was in heaven ! But they made me leave...it's expensive but well worth every penny

See ya around guys and gals

Daviddvm

I’m in Houston in 2 weeks and will be looking to play after work each day. I didn’t care for Wildcat as it wasn’t in good condition, too many hidden tee shots, and overpriced for what the conditions were, so if there’s anything else near the Medical Center that’s good, let me know. I’ve played 9 a few times at Hermann Park.

LOL. Largest little town in the middle of nowhere "South" Texas! West Texas is even more nowhere. Did fly in or drive?

I like Riverside. It is a relaxing nature course. I hope at least part of the Riverside deer herd was out to greet you. Being in the river bottom it floods at least once a year. And often seems to be the greenest of our 3 courses.

All of the deer in Riverside Park are protected and allowed to roam where they please. Their home turf trumps our playground and they are not afraid of us. I've even had to wait for one to be coaxed to vacate a green so we could continue play.

  1. I’ve been “playing” golf for probably close to 30 years.  My grandmother introduced me to the game when I was a child.  Currently I’m averaging 85 or so per 18 (I have never kept up with my handicap).

  2. I love that it’s a way to stay connected with family and that it’s a sport you can continue to play as you get older.

  3. I came across this site while reading club reviews.  I do not know anyone on here.

  4. Just recently moved to Conway Arkansas.  So far I have not joined a golf course.

  5. The best has to be the number of courses in the area and the worst has to be the humidity.

  6. I am a pastor.

  7. It’s part of my name.

I loved playing UNM South when I was traveling to ABQ.  Now that I'm retired, I haven't been there recently.  Pic doesn't look like UNM South... more like Los Altos.

Greetings from Dallas, TX!

My name is Tony Rosselli and I am a husband, father, college professor, and all around golf fanatic.  I have an Instagram page dedicated to my journey of chasing scratch golf (@_chasing_scratch).  I try to practice and play as often as I can, but finances, family, and free-time are always factors.  My son just turned 5yrs old and he loves spending time with me on the course.  He is quite a talented kid who I already taught how to read greens!  I'm looking forward to joining the community.

  1. How long have you been playing golf? What’s your handicap or normal score?

16 years, typically high 70s or low 80s
  2. What do you love about golf?

I love that it is the constant pursuit of perfection.  You can never truly master the game and that is what keeps me coming back for more!  I also love the community you can gain from spending 4+ hours with good people.
  3. What brings you to MyGolfSpy? Do you already know any other Spies?

I have always appreciated reading the unbiased reports and analyses of golf clubs and golf products provided by MyGolfSpy.  As a professor who does research, I can appreciate the concept of getting to the real performance and through all the hype and marketing that goes on in the golf industry.
  4. Where are you from? What is your home course?

I live in Fate, TX (just outside Rockwall).  I typically play at Buffalo Creek in Heath, TX.
  5. What are the best and worst things about golf in your region?

The best thing about golf in my region is that you can theoretically play year round (some days in summer are deadly and some winter days are just too cold, but for the most part you can make it work).  We have a slow play problem where I frequent.  Then we also have the opposite problem, regulars who don't even read putts just pick it up when they get to the green and try to run you over and rush you.
  6. What do you do for a living?

I am a tenured (found out this semester) college professor.  I actually study the game of golf from a sociological perspective and strategies/challenges with  growing the game for underrepresented groups.
  7. How’d you pick your user name?

It is an extension of my social media pages (@_chasing_scratch  on Instagram and ChasingScratch on YouTube and Facebook).  A few years ago I made it my goal to try to become a scratch golfer.

  1. How long have you been playing golf? What’s your handicap or normal score? I have been playing for about 30 years.  Most of the time it is on the weekend.  Now that I am retired I am looking to play more often.  Preferable during the week so I can get away from the weekend congestion.  My current handicap is 16.  Now that I have the time I hope it goes down.

  2.  What do you love about golf? The best part is the exercise.  I use a push cart and enjoy the long walk.  I do play better when I walk instead of using a cart.  I also the view of nature.  Yesterday I played a course that went up and down a hillside.  Some of the views were spectacular.

  3. What brings you to MyGolfSpy? I came to this site looking for some review on golf equipment. Do you already know any other Spies? Not yet.

  4. Where are you from? I currently live in Wren, MS.  We hope to move to Huntsville, Al in the near future.  Want to get closer to the kids. What is your home course?  I usually play Riverbirch in Amory, MS.  I enjoy playing courses when we travel and then I collect their logo balls for my wall rack.

  5. What are the best and worst things about golf in your region?  Plenty of local public course to add varied.  Most of them are in very good condition and offer different layouts and challenges.  The summers get very hot and humid.  It makes it a challenge to walk when the humidity gets to 80%.

  6. What do you do for a living?  Retired form the Federal Courts as the IT Manager.  Before that I was a helicopter pilot in the Army.

  7. How’d you pick your user name? Combination of my previous occupations.

I've been plating for 26 years. GHIN handicap is 1.6 put currently playing to about a 4.

2. What do you love about golf?

I love how you can play the same course a million times and all it takes is some wind or some wet conditions to completely change what you knew about it.

3.What brings you to MyGolfSpy? Do you already know any other Spies?

Google. I know no one here; at least I don't think I know anyone.

4. Where are you from? What is your home course?

New Orleans, Louisiana. I don't have a home course. I play anywhere that's in good shape that has a tee time available.

5. What are the best and worst things about golf in your region?

The worst is outrageous prices some courses charge to play when their maintenance crew can't even keep a a fake plant living.

The best in it's warm enough to play all year round and you only really have to worry about rain.

6. What do you do for a living?

Hospital Administration

7. How’d you pick your user name?

I moved to Virginia for some time after Hurricane Katrina but NOVA means Northern Virginia so I made VANO.
