Ping G30 repair

There’s a young fella at our club who happens to be a family friend who in an absolute freak accident broke his G30 after our round today. 

I tried pulling the shaft by using the torque wrench and two things happened: 

1. A gorilla cannot pull the shaft from the head 

2. The screw has come completely out of the head

Has anyone else ever run into either of these problems?

Most importantly, I really need to find a stock reg flex shaft for a G30. Does anyone know where I can find one?

If you tap the head on the ground the shaft will loosen. Do it on carpet or put a towel down. Turn the head so you are tapping the toe directly on the ground.

You really have to get angry with it before it comes out.

For the shaft I’d try 2ndswing, they have a bunch of PING shafts. Just checked.

About that, the adaptor for the G30, G, and G400 are all the same. This ought to give you a nice and broad search pool to find a shaft that'll fit. Not sure about the G25 adaptor but I know they've finally changed it for the G410 to close the window. 

@tony@CIC makes a good point that Ping may be able to help you out anyway because the shaft getting stuck is NOT normal and should be seen as a defect. I have a G30 and the head comes off with ease as it should. I'd be willing to bet their stellar customer service could make you whole.

I’d also recommend calling Ping. Worst case they say no. But I’ve had to deal with them a few times and they’ve always been top notch

Thanks guys! I haven't been able to get my hands back on it yet but will give it a go. The tapping sounds like it will give us a chance.  The head feels like it was glued in.  

Spoke with Ping today, they were reasonably helpful but the main solution is pointing us to an authorized dealer to order a new shaft.  A used TFC 189 in Reg flex has been a little bit more difficult to source (for a price less than the whole driver) than we had hoped for.

I was thinking along the same lines.  I had to head into a meeting when I was on the phone with Ping,  I am going to give them another call and see what they think about the shaft being stuck.

The other thing you might try is to put the Screw back in about half way, then using the wrench in the screw smack the wrench this should push the shaft out but only to the point the screw stops it, I had to do this once with mine.. As far as a new shaft I would Look for a aftermarket shaft with an adapter on just change the whole thing.. my $.02

First I've seen this thread... I too have had some heads be stuck on both my G & G400 stuff, but a gentle tap like or two on a towel like @SteddyGolf suggested works for me each time. Did you finally shake that thing free?

As far as I know it has been since shaken free and the new shaft is in action.

According to Ping, that's how the screw was designed and is A-Okay.  It went right back into the driver head and shaft.

Just had a stuck 400 come into the shop. Hit it with a plastic head hammer. The kind with a rubber sticking face one side and hard plastic on the other. I call em no bounce hammers. anyway. Two taps and viola its free.

Driver - 44.5" 5.0 flex 10.5 deg Graphite Design XC 6S GP MCC4+ 1 deg closed

Irons - 5-pw, GW stnd length 5.0 flex same grip 1 deg flat. Type low medium offset cavity back, no diggers

Wedges - 56 and 60 tour grind wedge spinner and mcc4+ grip 2 flat 10 and 8 in bounce

Putter - Makefield VS LH

Ball - truvis

Carried in a Sun Mountain C-130 USA bag - BE PROUD.

HC - LH but 85 is a good number, playing in Ohio.

Update on all the above.  New shaft was found, old shaft removed and replaced.  Then about 3 months after that, the second shaft broke in exactly the same spot.  So my friend has put a completely different driver in the bag.

If you get an opportunity to watch the golfer. see if he is bouncing the club off his back during the follow through.

Had THAT happen a few times to my sons team mates drivers. years ago
