Who uses The Grint

Recommended Posts

Originally was using GolfLogix as a GPS app on my iPhone and Apple Watch but it would drain the battery quickly and chew up data. Finished up a free trial and used it for a few more months at a discounted rate.
Found out at The Grint a bit after and have only used it for handicap tracking. Most of the courses nearby have GPS units in the cart so I relied on those for a while. Finally got a GPS Watch for Christmas and will be using that from here on out.

I"ve been using The Grint for over 3 years and I think it's one of the best stat trackers out there. Having 3+ years worth of rounds in it really gives me a good picture of where I've improved and of course where I still need work. The developers do a good job of keeping the app up to date and are very responsive to feedback, too.

Just downloaded the Grint on Android and truly love the app! Tried a few others before this, but the courses were spotty and since I play crappy courses in my area the Grint was able to deliver!

So far, i've noticed that my GPS is about +/- 5yds from a buddies scope, but still close enough for my high handicap. 3 rounds in and looking good so far.

I've been using the free version of The Grint for two years and really like it. I don't use the GPS on-course because I don't have an unlimited data cell phone plan. I enter my scores when I get home on my PC.

I just downloaded Google Rewards and would like to use credit earned there to upgrade to Pro for advanced statistics.

I’ve used Grint for a couple years; started on a buddies trip so we could use the leaderboard feature. That rocks!! I probably won’t give up on The Grint, but I also am interested in the GHIN hole by hole tracking.

I too have been using the Grint for a few years.  We started using it on a golf trip with guys coming in from all over, some members at their local courses others just social golfers so.  I don't use the GPS because I shoot a lot of things with the range finder but I do use it to track my stats such as driving accuracy and GIR.  I also keep an official handicap at my home course.

I never heard of it before now. I just signed up. I'll see if keep up with it. I use GHIN for my handicap.

As I understand it, the Grint now offers official handicaps, and links its members to the GHIN system.  You'll get a GHIN number through the Grint.  If you already have a GHIN number, make sure to give it to the Grint so you don't have two different handicap accounts.  Also, be sure not to post your scores twice, once through the Grint and once through GHIN directly.

Yes, this is important to remember. TheGrint uploads all scores entered automatically every night. If you DO NOT want it to be uploaded then you can select "practice round" in the round setup before beginning the round. Then that score will still be included in your TheGrint stats BUT will not be uploaded to GHIN.

So if you are playing in a competition such as a local club tournament where the club is going to enter the rounds into GHIN for you. Make sure you setup practice round if you are going to also use TheGrint to record your round - to prevent the double entry in GHIN.

I've been using Grint for two years as a "handicap member". That means I just paid for the new WHS handicap. I also tried Diablo and like Grint better - mainly for aesthetics. I typically used Golfshot during my round for GPS and to track stats.

I tried it out last year but I found myself going away from it because I was trying to use my phone less to focus on what I was doing. why was using it I thought it was okay I had used golf pad before and I like that a little bit better the only downside with golf pad is that it didn't have the handicap feature.

Anyone else using The Grint? I just signed up and I'll have an official USGA Handicap through them after the next revision day.

The stat keeping looks good too. Only using the free version now but I'm considering moving to the paid version.

Been using it for two years!!

Happy user for two years now.  My only advice is if you are looking to upgrade just do the $20 version to give yourself access to a handicap.  The $40 premium or pro membership offers more features but I'm not sure they're worth the $20 upgrade.  As far as I can tell the $40 version gets you the ability to upload scores via a snapshot of your scorecard rather than entering scores hole by hole, but I like entering hole-by-hole as a means to track stats (GIR, Fairways, Putts, etc.). Not really sure what else the $40 gets you over the $20.  The $20 membership is enough IMO.

I have used The Grint for a few years now and generally like it. I had a GHIN with my club already and I added that, so now I dont pay my club that fee, which is about the cost of the Grint app. I'm struggling with some accuracy issues. Some distances are not lining up. I have my ball at the 150 marker on the course and the app tells me 140-143. That's significant at that range. Visually, I like it. I also like the stats. I play a lot of golf on my own, because my schedule is very flexible, so having a buddy with the app to attest my rounds is very helpful. I'm not good enough or have a desire to be embarrassed in a tourney by fudging my numbers. As any issue with a phone, you need a connection. To allow the GPS to settle in, takes a little bit so a range finder would be a bit quicker I assume. For the price, its good. But I've been considering a rangefinder for accuracy concerns.

I've heard and read about all kinds of GPS having accuracy issues at times, and seen it myself on at least one occasion.  On the other hand, I've seen plenty of course markings that weren't exactly accurate either.  I'm a believer in the accuracy of laser measurements, but they don't tell the entire story if you can't see something that matters.

I'm with @DaveP043. I've seen some course markers that were well off. My course just redid all their 150 yard markers and they're spot on with what I'm seeing with my ShotScope.

I understand course markers not being perfect.  Another example. Yesterday I played with a guy who used a range finder.  My Grint GPS said 95 yards to middle.  His laser shot 105 to the pin (in the middle).  I really like the app, I like it's connection to the GHIN, I like the data tracking, it doesn't suck my battery life.  But 10 yards is club change or at least a swing change difference.

You also need to consider that the flag probably wasn't actually "in the middle". Most courses have several different pin positions they rotate through and more than one of them is likely considered a "middle" pin position without actually being exactly in the center of the green. Also, you need to remember that those markers are an average of the distance to the front and back of the green. An odd shaped green could substantially change the distance you get from the marker compared to what you optically determine to be the "middle".
