TESTERS WANTED! ×

Recommended Posts

I bought the swing caddie a year ago with hopes of getting my yardages dialed in for the new season. I did some research, and figured for the price I would give this a try.

Unboxing: it came in a nice, sturdy box. The directions were simple to understand and very easy to setup. I did not take me long to input the lofts for all my clubs.

Pros: I really like the fact I could adjust the lofts for each club. It came in handy as I have changed clubs, and sometimes when my friends want to give it a try! It does take in account for the elements, I don’t have any other monitors to test it for accuracy, but I have noticed it does change my distances do change accordingly. Yardages seem accurate enough for a casual golfer as myself. When I go out on the course, my good strikes do seem to match with what I get from the monitor, and has led to more GIR, better proximity, and lower scores.

Cons:  Depending on your ball speed with fairways and driver, it struggles with ball speeds over 150mph. Likewise, if clubhead speed is too fast it has trouble reading it. Still, it will pick up most of the shots,  and for myself all I’m really looking to get out is carry, trying to work on building a consistent swing, and maybe a little ego. When I work with my wedges and pitch shots, if I add loft it does not pick it up and adjust. I do check with these shots because they are close enough to check with rangefinder.

Overall experience: In my opinion, it was well worth the price. I love that I can adjust lofts, and it may not read every stroke perfectly, but other than driver 75% seem to match with eye test. It has taken out more guess work on the course, and better scores makes me happy.

Nice review, thanks!  I see they now have an SC300 with a few more features.  I've been considering one of these devices and SC seems to be among the best.

Nice write up. I've had mine for about a year and still like it. Although I would like the data capabilities of the 300, it's just not in the budget for this year.

Love my SC200. Be sure to keep the box, the height matches most driving range mats so you can get the device on level with your ball.

Unless the SC300 were to go on a major sale, I do think the Flightscope Mevo is probably a better option in the $500 range, but I've never played with the Mevo, either, so I may be totally wrong.

Interesting - do you see a difference in the data with it resting on the ground vs elevated (on the box). Unfortunately, I threw my box away so can't compare.

Hmm, that's a good question. I think I just saw that note in a review of the SC200 somewhere and repeated it verbatim. I do use the box when I hit drivers off mats so that I don't worry about the SC being too close. With wedges, if I play off the front of the mat, I can just place the SC on the mat to match the height.

I would think, though, you'd want as little obstruction in front of the SC for the best readings. I suppose it would depend on the height of the mats, as well. I'd just be worried the lip from the mat would interfere with the radar somehow.

I would think the distance away (4') from the tee would mitigate that - but at the very least it'd be an interesting comparison.

Glad I rarely deal with hitting off of mats - I've never used my Swing Caddie off the mat - I also find that I can move it very far back (5 or 6 feet) and it will pick up my ball flight and speed just fine -

Nice write up - I've not noticed an issue with higher swing or ball speeds - I use it on the course regularly and have had my son - whose driver swing speed is north of 120 and a mini tour player whose swing speed is right around 120 and ball speed in the high 170's use it and it registers for them just as it does for me - well - their 290 yard carry might be a tad longer than my 220 but you get the point. 🙂

For you SC200 ownere/users:

Have you noticed a difference in the yardages - either carry or total? When I used my unit last summer it seemed pretty spot on. I had it out this spring at both the driving range and the our practice holes and the numbers seem to be off. On my drives, the numbers were probably off by 6-8%. On the practice holes I was using it to dial in my wedges and the numbers were off substantially. In both cares I was using my Precision Pro LRF to see the actual numbers. Not sure if cold weather affects it (which it shouldn't) and I did have new batteries in it.

I sent an email to the support link but that was this morning so hopefully I get a reply in the next day or two. In the meantime any input would be appreciated.

What speed classifies as too fast for the SC200? 90+? 100+? Or should it only be used for the steel sticks (iros) and not the boom sticks (driver/3w/5w)? Ive been eyeing one of these for a while and maybe the SC300 but have yet to pull the trigger.

Jon,

I didn't think there was a speed limitation. Based on RevKev's work with speed sticks it looks like 90-100 is well within their range. Last year I used it from a driver down to wedges and pretty decent feedback. I'm having an issue as you can read on a previous post. Not sure why,  so hoping i can get a response back from them quickly.

I’ve seen no limitations like those mentioned by the OP - two guys who are between 115 and 125 have used my VC and it’s been pretty accurate for them.

It will be inaccurate on miss hits (normally too high) and also inconsistent with range balls. But get it on the course with your regular gamer and it’s carry distances and SS are very accurate from my experience.

Was browsing amazon and the Voice Caddy website yesterday. The review for the SC300 are not very good. Not that there were many reviews but a little cautious on it at the moment. I do like the iphone integration and some visual data though. But if the SC200 provides the same info for 1/2 the price then why spend more.

As a workaround on the data acquisition; what I do is set the SC200 for "averages" then snap a pic of the data. Not the same as downloading all of the shot data to a speadsheet - but it is a solution. FYI many of us on this Board that have bought SC200 paid around $200. FYI I bought mine new from ebay.

I got my SC200 I ordered from eBay yesterday. I only had the chance to hit a few balls (about 10) in the basement but overall it is what I expected on the cover. I was able to set it up right away and it captured all my swings and seemed pretty accurate. One had to be way off though because it had me hitting my AW 155 when it is closer to 125-130.

One concern I have is being at altitude, how much that is going to affect the numbers. Ill test that at the range soon.

My one complaint is the adjustable lofts aren't in 0.5 increments. All my lofts are 25.5, 29.5, ect. Trying to decide if it is better to round up or down. I also havent found a way to add my lob wedge (58, 62) but that could be just from lack of use so far. I also wish it had side spin so I had an idea of if it is off line when indoors but I knew that was a shortfall prior to purchasing.

I'm hoping to get out to the range today and put it to more use though and can provide a more in depth review as I see it.

I also havent found a way to add my lob wedge (58, 62) but that could be just from lack of use so far. I also wish it had side spin so I had an idea of if it is off line when indoors but I knew that was a shortfall prior to purchasing.

On the Lob Wedge - I just did that 2 days ago. Select Sand Wedge and then pick the appropriate loft. I've got a 56* and a 60* and that approach worked for both.

One had to be way off though because it had me hitting my AW 155 when it is closer to 125-130.

I saw Rick Shiels talking about his wedges not reading properly if he were to open the face a little bit and play a more lobbed shot. That would be a minor annoyance.

It may just be my range balls, distance from device, or setup(aim) when I move to driver and fairway. My ss is not near120. I have tried moving it since this post, and it has helped, but i still get that random few that just gives me dashes. But for the price I can’t complain. If you have any advice I do appreciate it.

I would just keep experimenting - if you find its only on the range then you have the answer - it could be that you have an unusually high launch in which case you may have to move the device a bit closer.  I find I can move it quite far back or even side to side and it still picks up my shots - sometimes when I don't want like when I'm at the range and have moved on to another club and forgotten to turn it off or reset it.  🙂

It's our offseason so auditioning candidates - looking for that right mix of low spin long, more spin around the greens - TBD

Spin rates are never a guarantee for cheaper priced launch monitors. In fact the Mevo makes you use metallic stickers you have to buy in order to "accurately" calculate the spin rates. Want better data your going to have to dig deep. So I wouldn't gun for the pricier model because the sc200 works pretty good. It also averages all your data for each club for reference. Golfdiscount has them for 50 dollars cheaper than anywhere else I found, also has a pretty good "lemon" policy so if you think it's not accurate you can always send it back. Always had great experiences ordering from them, bought every club I own from them actually lol.
