Any Crosshanded players out there??

Recommended Posts

One of our better golfers at our course who has won numerous club championships, as well as other events, chips cross handed, but the rest of his game is traditional.

Just tried a "full" swing in the living room like this. Feels like I'm going to break my wrist or hand or quite possibly I might just disintegrate?

Seems like I remember VJ chipping that way several years ago.

I played with a young Hawaiian guy who nothing short of crushed the ball hitting cross handed. It was pretty amazing to see. He used a crossed handed grip on every club in the bag. He was a really big dude too.

Yes he does.

I've experimented with chipping crosshanded since I putt that way, and it works fairly well, it's not something I'd use in every shot, but if you struggle to make consistent contact on chips, it could work.

I’m cross handed just in putting. I’m left handed but play right handed. Putting cross handed feels better to me.

I’ve tried cross handed pitches and chips. Seems like every shot was a short flop shot. Maybe I probably should put it into my game.

I basically picked up a club as a kid and taught myself. Took a few lessons growing up but it was ingrained in me.... by that point the instructors just went with it. I’ve since learned from a few other instructors a lot of kids may pick up the club that way but typically either switch or are told to switch to conventional. I will say though, from what I’ve also heard, including below in this thread, seems like crosshanded hitters can hit it out there. Its not the first time I’ve heard from others that fact.

I’ve never met anyone else thats like me in this regard though, would love to one day just to pick their brain!

Hello fellow spies! I’m a 4 handicap, crosshanded golfer throughout the bag, from putter all the way up to driver. Curious to see if anyone else plays that way and who, if anyone, they’ve received instruction from.

I also play crosshanded throughout my bag...tried playing the correct way but only ended up hurting my game! Don't you just love it when you are playing with new groups and you bomb it, then everyone tries it out🤣

I never saw this originally.  I can't imagine how one would even swing.  I played with a guy who used to work with me who, used what I can only describe as a  "HOCKEY" swing.  His hands were traditionally placed but he left at minimum 1.5 inches between his hands on the grip.  I give you credit, like others above, I can only picture myself in traction attempting a driver swing crosshanded.

I have putted cross handed for about 30 years now...   have been chipping cross handed as well for about5 years..   trying to get the longer pitch shots to work cross handed too.   sometimes I chip short delicate chips one handed using just my right hand and have become pretty good at it.  I'm 76,   15 hdcp ..   used to be better, but age has taken distance away unfortunately.    Advice...   Try chipping cross handed...  seems that the pros are trying it and using it successfully. .   use putting stroke, especially if you putt cross handed ...  GOOD LUCK TO ALL..

Full bag crossed hand golfer here. Right handed but do everything left and didn’t have access to left handed clubs growing up and here we are 20 years later… cross handed monstrosity. I’ve been kinda worried to ever get proper golf lessons because I’d be laughed out of the bay… I’m sitting at like a 12 hdcp. Random playing partners are always in awe to see how I can even make contact with the ball lol.

Matt Fitzpatrick chips and frequently pitches "cackhanded". If I recall correctly, it began as a drill Pete Cowen had him work on for low point control and he liked so much that he went with it. I've started to incorporate "cackhanded" chipping into block practice, but am a long way from deciding to try it on the course, LOL.

The head golf professional at a small but wonderful course north of Seattle plays crosshanded.

He is an excellent player,  and has been the PNW chapter PGA instructor of the year.  He currently has a couple PGA players that come see him for lessons.  His dad gave lessons to almost all the pga players in the 80s and 90s.

the course actually has 100s, maybe 1000s of those lessons on video a his dad recorded every lesson.

But Craig is a great guy if you are looking for a PGA pro that plays in this style.

That's Will Lowery (https://willlowery.com/).

I've known Will since he was 6 years old; his dad Cliff is a friend of mine. We used to play tennis together regularly, and Will would always tag along. He would pick up one of his dad's racquets (which were way too big and heavy for him at the time) and hit two-handed backhands and forehands (like Monica Seles). When he tagged along with his dad on the golf course too, Will's two-handed (cross-handed) forehand became his golf swing, and the rest is history.

Like Tommy Fleetwood, sometimes I chip cross-handed. I find that I have better distance control using my putting grip. With a conventional grip, I tend to run the ball by.
