PING Apologist #9
Albatross to me just has a negative connotation that I've never been able to get past because of "The Rhyme of the Ancient Mariner". The albatross hung around his neck has just stuck with me to the point that even doing something awesome like holing-out on your second shot into a par-5, that it should be called something different and more positive. Therefore for me, Double-Eagle. Although "Turkey" would be fun..! "You Turkey!!!" Kenny B
We had a new guy join our club maybe 15 years ago... new to golf period!! A little on the crusty side, but generally a nice guy. The first time I played with him, I made a birdie. When it went into the cup, he yelled "Double Eagle"!! Everything that went in less than par was a "Double Eagle"!! It was funny for awhile, but I don't want to hear it anymore. Pretty sure I will never hear it on the course. Albatross. Popular Post chisag
... Whatever it is called, I have 2 of them. So Double Albatross? The irony is I still don't have a hole in one. While more than a few HIO's are lucky, at least most times you are aiming at the flag. But with an Albatross you are just aiming at the green so I think there is more luck involved. That said, my cousin has never broken 100 and has 4 HIO's ... sigh. At first glance I thought you were claiming a double albatross as in quadruple birdie! How many cart paths and sprinkler heads would that take?I'd vote for albatross. It sounds so much more impressive than double eagle. Double eagle sounds too much like double bogey, and I don't like those. I earned one if these on a par five first hole a few years ago. I'll never forget one playing partner telling me "it all goes downhill from here". It did. It's hard to keep up that pace. GolfSpy BOS
Albatross 100%! Sounds much cooler. its also kind of a special feat much like hole-in-one which we could all just call an “eagle on a par 3” but that’s not nearly as impactful. They each deserve a name that has some instant recognition because you put the ball in the hole from either a tee box or likely a par 3 distance or greater from the hole. the real question is what should you call your hole-in-one albatross on a short par 4? Should this get it’s own name? also, when my old college roommate and I play and he gets an 8 on a hole instead of saying “8” or “quad” or “triple” or something like that he just starts singing Frozen’s “Do you want to build a snowman?” Now that I’ve got that stuck in the head of every parent with young children who read this and ruined their morning I’m going to go fill my coffee cup since I was informed that it is now indeed daytime from a mischievous young toddler by my bed side. #teamAlbatross Quote Epic Max LS 10.5 - Motore X F3 6X | Speedzone 5-wood - Ventus Blue 8S | TSi3 20* Hybrid - KBS Proto 85S SMS Pro 4-PW - Steelfiber i110S | MG3 Raw Black 50.09, 54.11, 58.11 - DG TI S200 ER2B | Pro V1x | NX9 Slope | Jones Trouper R | CaddyLite EZ v8
