Manavs
Just want to point out that the r11 is not just a black n white cookie, the paint on the crown is matted for anti glare. At their monster booth they had bright lights shining on the competitors driver heads for comparison, and since the r11 does not have a shiney coating finish it stood out. formerstormer
Oh Callaway execs, will you please "get a life!". In fact, will some of you do the decent thing and say byebye to the golf trade, you've expired yourselves, but then, you wouldn't get such generous, rewarding bonuses for "mediocrity" in other trades!! Your waving a white flag!!
Justin66
Oh Callaway execs, will you please "get a life!". In fact, will some of you do the decent thing and say byebye to the golf trade, you've expired yourselves, but then, you wouldn't get such generous, rewarding bonuses for "mediocrity" in other trades!! Your waving a white flag!! That about sums it up for me. They won't compare their "forged composite" crowns to others like Nike's on the SuMo 5000 (or their own from previous models), but they'll sure compare it to titanium... that sounds like a swipe at both TMaG and Titleist to me. Their execs gave themselves bonuses for poor performance and now we have this petty excuse of a flaw. Titleist is releasing the new/old ProV1/V1x that they couldn't release in 2009, thanks to Callaway's eventually wasted lawsuit. They also are going to (hopefully) have their hands full with the lawsuit over the "octane" name. The end seems near... This is just me thinking out loud, but if Callaway does happen to go down (or is bought by Dick's) could the Ben Hogan brand be revived? SPY VIP GolfSpy Dave Posted February 8, 2011 SPY VIP Share Posted February 8, 2011 Some of you seem a bit bent out of shape over this. Remember business is business. TM has made a market buzz with the white heads. All of the other manufacturers have to answer the "why don't you make a white driver?" question now. It is all marketing to make money for the company. Think about it like the pre-fight weigh in. No fighter goes in saying "yeah, I expect him to kick my ass". You believe in yourself an swing the leather. If you are on the canvas later, so be it, but you fought. This is what I see Callaway doing and it is what they should be doing. The real downside of this is that now I sort of see the shaft shadow on the head (black) of my PING driver. fairwaygolfusa
Now it's the matter of who agrees and who starts agreeing. Didn't really bother much of our crew but now that someone mentioned it, it's probably gonna start bugging me. BIG STU
I guess it is the old psych thing like asking an opponent if he breaths in or out or holds his breath during a golf shot. I dont know if it is a defect or not but it looked like "Two Gloves" was knocking the crap out of his all last week maybe hit it too far on 17 in the last round. I know he is an Adams man but his driver shure looked like one of those white Taylors to me. Tristan
Come on Callaway, you can do better than that. How about spending some more money on R&D, and don't give me bullshit like the forged composite is going to give me 20 more yards. Build a better driver. One that can be adjusted in various ways. What the avid golfer is looking for is to be able to 'tune' their clubs like the pros get done for them. Go with that premise and you will sell more drivers. formerstormer
Come to think of it, who was first with a white driver?? Was it Cobra? Poulter was using the first one last November in Hong Kong I think? Thoughts please! Good weekend for Callaway with a staff player winning in Dubai, hole in one as well!! Jimmmy
Now I see it as a good thing if you put a wee flag on the shaft, you will see the wind direction when setting up for the drive, saves tossing grass into the air.

Go with that premise and you will sell more drivers. you sir bring up a much more important unrelated topic. it is my opinion as a clubfitter that "avid" golfers are way up tehir ass with numbers launch monitos and clubhead settings. the simple truth is that most tour pros neither have much of a clue whats in their bag nor care to know. sure you have some die hards jerking themselves going through a case of grips to match gram weight to 1/2 g but other than that----- if you take fct/mwt for instance on 1 hand tm will shove down your throat that all these adjustments will create certain very wide dispersions in ball flight.what they neglect to mention is that the golfer needs to be talented and practiced enough to repeat a pinhead hit everytime to get these results.the fact is mwt is a farce and it really takes about 10% movement in clubhead mass(@20g in driver) to really have any affect in center of gravity. this means that changing 4g to 8g is doing absolutely nothing other than painting your ego.even with an after market tungsten weight such as 25-30g are you good enough to repeat that pinhead hit to avail the change in cog. this is not to mention on the other side of their fence they will tell you that the driver is sooooo forgiving that you can hit it off the toe and still reap 80-90% off an on center hit which in comparison to a persimmon driver is definately the case because a toe hit on a 460 would = strike 1 on a persimmon. mwt is a nice swingweighting feature and much greater marketing ploy, which hay thats cool too. a similar anal - ogy (ha) would hold true for my opinion on fct cheers willy pro_stix

TheKid
This is just me thinking out loud, but if Callaway does happen to go down (or is bought by Dick's) could the Ben Hogan brand be revived? This really caught my eye, and I agree it would be a welcome thing. I remember their BS line about reviving the line in 2008, then 2009, then 2010, then...it's dead. Still they have no problem using words like "Hawk" and "Apex" either in there advertising or directly on their products. It feels like the Hogan brand is being held hostage.
