deejaid
Well, I wish Barbajo would have spilled the beans, but I woke up this morning to find an email from the Ben Hogan Golf Co. in my inbox touting these https://benhogangolf.com/products/ptx-pro-irons The update to the Ben Hogan PTx irons, the PTX Pro. Slightly larger, slightly more offset compared to the original PTx and easily a much more modern look. A beautiful forged design. I can’t wait to find out more about these. As a Hoganista that’s played everything from 1954 Precision’s to 2015 Ft. Worth’s, if these perform as good as they look, Hogan has a winner on their hands. Popular Post GolfSpy Barbajo
It wasn't easy keeping these under wraps. Saw them when I was in Texas last year. We have a blog post on these going live tomorrow. These are replacing the old PTx - which are about three years old. The differences appear to be very slight, with the aesthetics being the biggest upgrade. You'll be seeing more of this kid of stuff from Hogan as the weeks go by.... fozcycle, Kwoodfield, MattF and 7 others 10 Quote What's in the bag: Driver: TSR3; DynaPWR Carbon FW Wood: DynaPWR 3-wood; TSR 2+ Hybrids: PXG Gen4 18-degree Utility Irons: ZX MkII 20* Irons:; 699/699 Pro V2 Combo; D9 Forged; MT86 (coming soon!); VIP 1025 V-Foil MB/CB; Wedges: RTX6 Zipcore Putter: HB Soft Milled 10.5; Newport Special Select; Willamette, BB8; 8802; MATI Monto Ball: Tour B RXS; Z-STAR Diamond; Triad Stat Tracker/GPS Watch: Follow @golfspybarbajo

romeopapazulu
I would love to see some views compared to the old PTx. So the face got bigger, (I can understand that) but the sole got wider and offset went up (sounds a bit strange)? Did the topline slim down some? I was considering doing some work to optimize the shafts in my PTxs. romeopapazulu
They talk about increasing offset, but the specs say they have the same offset as the last models. I saw a pic on Facebook of the three current irons and the old PTx together. The top lines don't look too different in thickness, but these are definitely more square which gives them the appearance of being thicker. Chisag picked up on this in the blog pictures and wondered why they wouldn't round that to give the illusion of thinness. I would have to agree. EthanSterlingPrice
Been playing the original PTx release since they came out a few years ago. I’ve played well with them and not so well with them at times too but it was always a case of “indian not arrow” flaw. If they perform like the original release then they’ll be a winner. Not 100% sold on some of the aesthetic changes but those could grow on me just like other equipment has many times over. Just good to see Hogan turning out new gear. gbtrsc
My first range session with the demos were quite promising. The V-soles do their jobs by keeping divots shallower, ball striking a bit more crisp. Once I got used to the lighter shaft (my demos have the Recoil F4 shaft) these started producing VERY consistent ball flight, in terms of distance, trajectory and direction. These will take more range time before I place the order but early signs point to some new Hogans coming to my bag! I’m seriously looking at these too. Hard to decide between the sub70 639’s or these... Yes, I've gotten to hit them again, side by side with other 6- and 9-irons I own: Ping i5 with Nippon Pro Modus3 105 R-flex, and Mizuno JPX 825Pro with SteelFiber 110cw R-flex. I've lost something like 10mph in swingspeed in the last couple of years, now around 95mph driver. I thought my move to lighter shafts with the Pings and 825s was sufficient, moving from 120-130 gram steel to lighter steel or graphite. So I was hesitant to order the PTXPro demos with the Recoils at only 85 grams. That hesitation was ill-founded. The lighter shafts allow me to achieve the feeling of "swing" vs "hit". I feel like my swing is much freer. Results compared to the Pings and 825s are much more consistent. Better trajectory. MUCH more accurate. More workable than the Mizunos and certainly moreso than the Pings, when I want to. Otherwise, they're point-and-shoot straight. Interesting that the 6-iron standard ball flight might be a bit higher than the 9-iron but there are no complaints about either. Dynacraft and Golfworks shaft data shows that the Recoil Stiff is probably best for my swing, compared to their regular flex. Whatever... I've found these to be very stable, but certainly not too stiff for my swing. I will be testing more this weekend, and want to dig out my lie board to do some dynamic lie testing. But I'm pretty certain that I'll be putting in an order with the Recoil 780F4, once I address the issue with SWMBO aka the CFO. bens197 and romeopapazulu 2 Quote ------------------------------ Driver: Titleist TSr2 11 - UST Helium 5F3 Fairway: Titleist TS2 16.5 and 21 - Evenflow Riptide CB R Irons: Titleist U505 4U and T300 5-GW - Aerotech SteelFiber i80 R Wedges: Cleveland Black RTX ZipCore 54 and Full Face 58 - True Temper Dynamic Gold Wedge Putter: Odyssey TriHot 5K TripleWide Bag: Titleist 15 Cart

gbtrsc
To answer an earlier question the distances with them are very good by traditional standards. No 190 yard 7-iron here (especially from me). 6-iron for me is probably 165 or so. Which is on par with my jpx 825 pro. Example: shot I hit today, par 5, busted a nice tee shot which scooted over the hill in the fairway. Left me about 150 yards but up hill about 30 feet. I hit the 6-iron solidly and laser straight and wound up here: So should I order a set? Me thinks so!
