Gary Player signs deal with PXG??

Recommended Posts

Thinking back to my “what would they play now” thread this is very interesting. Looks like Mr. Player is in the PXG fold now. Probably the oldest player to get a new club deal?

Makes perfect sense, he has been rocking the all black look for years.

Plus, it’s smart to get someone his age for endorsements. Retired guys are the ones that can afford PXG.

I remember back when Tiger was first starting to try and come back to competitive golf that Bob Parsons said in an interview that he wouldn't ever consider signing Tiger because he's past his prime and wouldn't move the needle like he used to.

Then he signs Gary Player...

I guess Bob wanted someone who talks about themselves as much as he does.

My bag is a revolving door!

Looks like he's also got a 28° hybrid from the FB post from PXG announcing him as a brand ambassador.

I’ll admit, I’ve never even gone to their website. I don’t anticipate being able to afford their clubs anytime soon.

Their driver is only slightly more expensive than other new releases. Their gen1 irons can be had for less than most current brands new releases thru the heroes program and their gen2 can be had on secondary market for the same or slightly more than apex, ap line, Ping I and mizuno

This. To me, it was the best driver I hit this year, but we just couldn't get the numbers down, that's why I went with the M5...the Gen 2 was only $25 more than the M5 and I'd be bagging it if we could have gotten it to work.

I can afford them, but what will they offer over my PingEye 2's?  Certainly nothing in the bling category. 😆

Regarding Gary's deal with PXG, that makes sense.  As has been pointed out, lots of older players that have both the money and desire to own the best - data/fact based or not.

And trust me on this because you and I think alike. You would not like them. My running partner Bear has a set. They hit ok but nothing like what you and I are bagging. Even at his age he is into the distance thing. His PXGs are 2* stronger than any of my KZGs and I still use 1 club less than he does. He swears I have those things jacked and I do not. Besides I can not justify paying that much for a set of clubs. But hey to each his own whatever floats their boat

That is one of the most timeless designs ever--- And you are hearing that from a confirmed Macgregor and Hogan blade man. I actually have a set of eye 2s I found in one of the bins at work. They were red dots but I did bend the lies up to my specs but did not jack the lofts. A friend of mine on WRX who is a Ping expert told me not to jack the lofts. They are basically traditional lofts starting with a 48* PW. I think what smoothes mine out is the Apollo multi step shafts that were in them when I found them.

Yup, never even bothered to look at the site, they are of no interest to me. I’m sure they are great clubs and many guys will buy em and love em but give me a great forging from Kyoei.
