I told myself I was content with my bag as I updated everything this year except the driver and putter.  These reviews have me very curious!

I was not looking for a new driver as my rogue was sufficient and only a previous generation. The testing opportunity came up and was selected. This club has blown my mind. It continues to perform and perform at a level higher than I expected. If you are in the market definitely give it a try.

Sorry if I missed this... but how’s the sound compare to the rogue?
I’ve seen some selling for 150ish, so I might have to try. Haha

They are in completely different ballparks. The rougue is very muted and almost mushy sounding. The flash is higher pitched and somewhat tingy. I still have my rogue. I’ll try to get a sound comparison tomorrow on the range for you.

Had another great driving day today, shooting 87 (+15) in drizzly and wet conditions largely because of my game from the tee box. My fairways hit number wasn't all that high, but on several holes I wasn't that far off the fairway and had great second shots. On the first hole I actually drove the ball through the fairway, which is a first for me.

Today, on the back nine, I hit the fairway on holes 13, 14, 16 and 17, and nearly drove the green on hole 15. On hole 18, I pulled my drive a little left and just went, "Huh? What was that? I never miss."

If you had told me at the beginning of this testing opportunity I would come to expect to hit every fairway, I would have told you that was crazy talk. Today just reiterated the enormous amount of confidence I have in this club.

Had my best drive on hole 16. Split the fairway and left me a great approach into the  green. I actually was so close I grabbed one club too many and sent my second shot over the green. Whoops.

Are you gaming it with the Tensei still? I think last time I remember you were still on the fence?

As for me, the driver is still performing great, and I'm still gaining the most strokes with it according to Arccos:

No. I need to update my signature. When I went in for the Trackman fitting last month, the spin numbers I was producing showed the HZRDUS Smoke to be the best fit.

I did wrap several grams of lead tape around the shaft right below the grip. Knocked the swingweight down just a bit. The goal was to simulate the counterweighted HZRDUS Yellow, which really seems to fit my swing. I like the lead tape so far, helps me quiet my hands in my opinion.

I’ve swung my friends F8 with the HZRDUS yellow 6.5 65 (63 grams I think?). Even in an extra stiff flex I liked it a lot and did t think it was boardy. I’ll be testing that shaft out with whatever new driver I end up going with.

I’m not sure I can get over the look of the Callaway. I have the Epic Sub Zero and I don’t like the look at all. The performance however is phenomenal. I’ve tested it against the flash, TS3, M5, F9, G410...and it performance right there with all of them. But what happened to slim old elegant drivers...I might just have to buy a TS3 simply for the look at this point.

I got out today and played for three first time in two weeks. I decided to take part in the MGS Hard Rock Challenge and took some Nitro's to the course and play 18. Shot 51/46 for a 97. Now about the explosive distance that Nitro claims? Give me a Snell, Pro V1, or any other premium ball. I did average 225 today with a long of 256 with six total drives going better than 240.
Screenshot_20190615-203816-01.jpeg

I only hit 2/13 fairways, but as I've mentioned before, most of the misses were only by a few feet. I did hit one WAY offline on 8, I blocked one that almost hit the road bordering the left hand side of 7.
Screenshot_20190615-203632_Firefox-01.jpeg

I also popped one up on 5, hit one into some 15-20 mph wind on 12, and pull hooked one on 14. All user error.

I know the sound is one of the biggest complaints I've had about this driver, and it's magnified hitting rocks. Yikes, if I had to play these all the time, I'd have to invest in hearing protection. Nitro's are terrible to listen to off the putter, and I'm gaming an Odyssey with a White Hot insert.

Hitting rocks with those Nitros!

Played in a scramble Wednesday with my brother-in-law. Struggling with my driver swing at the moment, but I made enough good swings with the Epic Flash to use quite a few of my drives.

Today I walked nine before my normal Sunday chores, but my tee game was complete trash and not worth mentioning here 🤣. No fault of the Epic Flash, though!

After struggling through my round Sunday and and most of a range bucket yesterday, I made a few tweaks with my driver swing that seem to be helping create more room for my arms to swing freely.

Shot a 42 this morning during my regular Tuesday round with no other swing thought other than, "If you're going to be in trouble, might as well be long and in trouble."

Ended up hitting the driver pretty well. Didn't hit a ton of fairways, but some of that was because I simply drove the ball further on certain holes than I have all year. Included was this 245-yard bomb that unfortunately ended up right behind a tree that I never before have come close to on the 507-yard par 5 third hole.

image.thumb.png.7f390dddddd5cc4eab0ff5cd38ee498e.png

This was my second-best round on this set of nine holes ever. Very happy with how the Epic Flash is helping my game out.

The thing does make a wicked sound in enclosed spaces though. On No. 4, which has a tee box surrounded by trees, I hit one a little low on the face and you'd swear I had hit a ball bearing and not a golf ball.

Just to give an update since my stage 2 was posted. The Flash is still performing, in fact it is still improving (although I don't think there is anything left in it). My smart distance is now up to 299 and is really close to my high range. Which is amazing!

2101157915_driverstats.JPG.1564c944dde55b147afe264f2dfd7e38.JPG

I still am missing more fairways than previous gamer but they are not causing any problems with my game. Overall handicap has continued to drop as I am just hitting shorter clubs into the greens.

Below is my driving handicap per Arccos. The black arrow represents when the Flash entered the bag, Green line is driving handicap and Grey line is overall handicap. As you can see both are going in the right direction since I put it in play.

Really nice job on the reviews guy. Between the Most Wanted Testing, 410 reviews and yours I’m noticing a trend.

It seems that to get higher launch and lower spin rates OEMs have had to sacrifice sound/feel. Your reactions to the Callaway’s sound are identical to mine the first time that I heard the 410. It didn’t sound like $500. It sounded cheap.

Your reactions in that category

Glad it's not just me!

Great stage 1s guys. Question for THEZIPR23, why did they dial down a 10.5 to 9.5 for you? Do they not offer a 9.5? Or dial up a 9? Thanks

Sent from my iPad using MyGolfSpy

@THEZIPR23 is a very good golfer, so the reason why they did that for him might differ from a mid or high cap player. His swing is so good any club only needs a tweak probably.

Players on my level? A different story, sadly.

I was told at the Callaway Performance Center we used to have on site in my golf community that I needed to play a 9 or 9.5 driver then loft up. The reason was raising the loft would close the face, which would help me square it up with my over the top swing. A 9 or 10.5 loft preset club would not help, although my "pull fade" had plenty of distance. Lofting down from say 12 to 10.5 would open the face and make things worse because of my out to in path.

Fixing that path was/is the hardest thing for me. I still revert back to my "bad" swing quite often. TBH I think I might have been better served just swinging my swing. All the time and struggle to fix an ingrained move is really hard, and caused many frustrating moments.

Sound is one thing but performance has been a different level. It could sound like nails on a chalkboard and I would still hit it because of the results.

Thank you for the kind words.

You hit the nail on the head with the lofting down opens the face.

Fixing an ingrained move is very difficult. I am still in the process of fixing 3 in my swing. It takes work and some bad golf but the results have paid off. The best way I found was very deliberate and exaggerated moves. I even played full rounds only swinging and about 3/4 because I struggled taking it from the range to the course.

I had my worst round distance wise in a long time today. I only averaged 200 yards off the tee with a longest drive of 251 while competing in the MGS Hard Rock Challenge. I felt some pain yesterday at work while lifting a wiring harness. For those of you that don't know, I work in automotive assembly building cockpits and it can be physical. I had a harness get tangled and my upper back wasn't too fond of it. The pain has gone away, but I think it left me tentative about going all out.

I did, however, have a day that saw the Epic Flash Sub Zero land 9/13 in the fairway and I hit 9/18 greens. One of the fairway misses was down the pipe, but landed in a creek that crosses the hole. I shot 51 on the front, but I shot a personal best 42 on the back where I hit 4/6 fairways. I'm still surprised by the forgiveness that this club offers.

Couldn't hit the fairway to save my life today. However, with the weather warming up and the fairways drying out, finally, the distance is starting to follow.

Tee shots that were not clipped down by trees today: 232, 237, 236, 240, 249 and 235 yards. Overall, I'm still very happy with those numbers and they are giving me much shorter second shots allowing for birdie opportunities and easy pars. The Epic Flash makes for a very stress-free round.

Lots of time at the range this week being devoted to hitting them in the general direction of the fairway, however...

I got out today celebrating the start of summer shutdown by shooting a 97. The driver performed great again today hitting 7/13 fairways. My distance was down, only averaging 223. I just couldn't let loose with the driver. I think I was out of sync and was trying to rush the downswing. I did hit a couple of bombs, including on the 12th, where I'm trying to desperately hit the green on a par 4.Screenshot_20190628-212615-01.jpeg
Now I just wish Callaway made an Epic Flash putter that would help me get below 40 putts a round. I had 41 today and know where I really need to work on my game. I did sink one that was impressive. I got to the green on 8, a past five, and sunk a putt of 27 feet. If you look closely at the picture you can see some black spots near the hole. Those are hornets. They were swarming all around the green and I wanted off there as soon as possible and got lucky.

This past week, I purchased Monte Scheinblum's "Drive 4 Dough" video series. I had been struggling with the driver lately (a lot of shots lost right), and was looking for some help. Monte's YouTube videos have always resonated well with me, so I was willing to spend the $40 for the videos.

I made a few tweaks to my swing as a result of some of his stuff. The biggest tweak was a much stronger grip. He also explained the external rotation of the right arm in a way I had not heard before. Something clicked and I took that swing thought to the course.

Additionally, at the range Friday I made a few changes to the hosel and weight settings. On Wednesday, I began hitting huge draws toward the end of my round. I left the hosel turned down 1 degree, but put it back into neutral setting. I also moved the weight to the center of the club from the draw position.

I'm still figuring out directional stuff with the new tweaks, but did I have an awesome driving day for me today.

The Epic Flash smashed seven drives over 240 yards, including drives of 255, 259, 262, 266 and 277 yards.

I am also happy to report I did not hit the high weak, ballooning fades that have hindered my last few rounds.

Hole No. 15 at my home course is a 267-yard par 4 that plays all uphill. My best effort so far this season has been to leave the ball about 25 yards short of the green. Today, I smoked my drive almost too far, and it ended up pin high left of the green. Any further and it would have hit the pop machine and portable restroom tucked behind the green! 😄
