Kwoodfield
Hello Spies. Question. What is your go to shot? I am 1.6 index right now (99% due to short game at the moment) but am always working on my swing. What is your go to shot and why? I typically try and play a fairly boring shot so my misses tend to not be as far off line, but always try to practice a fade and draw for when it’s needed. Did a little simulator practice today. The pictures below are 3 consecutive shots with my 9i. My question to you is which would you rather have and why? Better yet what do you want to see YOUR ball do and why?? “Sometimes the biggest problem is in your head. You’ve Got to believe.”Jack Nicklaus Link to comment
Kwoodfield
For those who haven’t used foresight before, swing 1 is the slight pull fade, swing 2 is push draw, swing three fairly straight turning over slightly left..Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy Link to comment
THEZIPR23
I would guess that the majority of golfers want the shot opposite of what they hit. I am predominately a draw player, especially with my irons. Would love to be able to consistently hit a nice controlled fade. Can do it with the driver, but Irons is a complete guess. GolfSpy_BNG
My shot shape the last couple years has been unknown until the 3rd hole of a given round. My swing seems to be consistent only for 1 round. It may be a fade or draw for that round but odds are good it will be the opposite for the next round. As strange as it sounds though, my short irons are almost always straight to a slight draw even when the long irons and driver fade. silver & black
I used to have a natural draw with all clubs. This was good when I could count on it.These days, I would like to just count on the ball going straight where I want it to go. Straight is good!....if you can do it. I can't count on draw, fade or straight right now. Link to comment
PMookie
My miss is a hook, but I want my natural baby-draw, with all clubs. I don’t have a go-to shot because I don’t have a go-to swing.... cnosil
I do best when I try to hit a fade. I can hit a draw, but I don't hit it as consistently as a fade and try to use it only for recovery shots. DiscipleofPenick
Used to be a fader, but spent a lot of time turning that into a draw. Thennnn it became a hook. Took lessons and refocused and its back to a draw with the irons, but a fade with the driver. I'm pretty happy with that now. Dance with what brung ya and all that. golfinnut
I go with what swing I bring to the course that day. It varies from day to day because of the lack of time I have to play & practice. Whatever swing happens to be there, I go with it. If it's a fade, I play the fade all day. If it's a draw, I play that. I don't try and work the ball too much one way or the other. I'll play for a straight shot and it does what it wants to that day. I learn to live with what stock shot I have that day & play the course accordingly. I just think it overcomplicates things when you try and work the ball depending on hole location & hole layout. I've had pretty good success this way, so why change? If I had more time to dedicate to practice, it would be a different story. WITB: Do I like Titleist or what? gchester33
With the irons all I'd ever want is a straight flight with a consistent distance. I'm not good enough, and don't play the same courses frequently enough, to spend time thinking about green slopes and how the landing angle is going to track down to a hole or anything. If my irons were always flying straight i'd be happy as a clam. With the driver I'd want to be able to work it a bit both directions to be able to avoid hazards and track hole shapes better. palvord
For me, I want to know the shape and execute it. Currently I am playing for a draw working to eliminate my misses to the left. I don't have a personal preference of a draw over a fade, I just want to be able to execute whatever it is consistently. cnosil
With the irons all I'd ever want is a straight flight with a consistent distance.A straight ball is the hardest ball flight to hit consistently and taking that approach sets you up for a possible two way miss. I have taken a few lessons where we discussed course management and you are better off setting up to play a particular ball flight. Won’t necessarily help with how much the ball turns but helps you pick places to aim when hitting a shot. DaveP043
Overall, I'm happy with my ball flight. I hit a slight draw with most irons, and a straight to fade with my driver. Its basically the same swing, with the driver's more forward ball position making it more likely to fade. I VERY rarely try to go the other way with irons, I just don't get consistent contact. I can generally get my driver to draw a bit, but I'd rather just do what I do reasonably consistently. That, to me, is the key to golf. Choose the shot you hit the most consistently, and live with the results. Role models are Kenny Perry or Bruce Leitzke. They made a ton of cash by playing a single shot shape, and doing it really well.
