Fujikura Ventus

I played 18 yesterday with my Club Champion fitted shaft, Accra TZ5, and saw similar results. It was one of the best driving days I've ever had. It's definitely worth the investment to get fitted.

No idea, but 9 months later. I only like this shaft more and more. I've switched to hitting slight fades with it after years of a power draw. Previously, when I'd try a fade, I would get one, but 5 yards or 75 yards were options. This has allowed me to play a 5-10 yard fade as my go to shot on drives over the last few months. It's just so good.

I wonder if the shaft makeup or the bend profile is what makes this shaft excel? I wonder if they can put the Velocore in other bend profiles such as the Evo line?

It’s the shaft make up with the materials used and how it’s layered on and at what angle.

To my understanding Velocore is just a product name for marketing what they are doing with the design. They used two different types of carbon fiber, one being “stiffer”’ than t110g.

they could put it in any shaft but we have to remember they are in the business of making products and like every shaft company have different lines designed to do different things so  doing the samething in another line defeats the purpose of having a velocore line.

I don't know, the way Fujikura puts out shafts I'm fully expecting to see the "Fujikura Ventus Motore Speeder Vista Atmos Pro 2.0 661 TR Evolution 12 Tour Spec XLR8 with Triax" any day now.

My bag is a revolving door!

+1 for the Ventus. It has substantially reduced my left-right dispersion with the driver. It is so stable, but I can still feel the club loading, nothing like the HZRDUS black that I struggled with for a while. I need to save up to get it in my 3w as well...

Technical differences? Not sure I'm your man there haha. I don't know much other than what is on the spec sheets when it comes to the technical aspects... but I can try to better describe how it translated to my swing if that helps.

https://fujikuragolf.com/ventus

https://www.truetemper.com/products/hzrdus-black/

The HZRDUS feels like re-bar all the way down. My swing speed is in the 108-110 range with an aggressive transition. The 75g 6.5 shaft was too much for me to consistently handle (the 6.0, or the lighter 6.5 would be the better choice from that lineup for my swing). Some days I could cook with it, other days I was all over the place. I had cut down on my left misses for the most part compared to earlier drivers (had mostly been buying stiff shafts off the rack pre-MGS enlightenment and fought both pull hooks and over-cooked draws), but dispersion was an issue.

Ventus (blue 6x is what I have) is softer up by the grip, way softer than the HZRDUS, for me, that translated into more "feel" of the club loading in the backswing (think AD-DI but not quite that soft). But it has a super stiff tip, which made it feel stable and resisted rotating (for me at least). It is just easier for me to square up, and misses seem to gently ease left or right, rather than really spin way off line. My ball speed from my f8+ with the HZRDUS to my Epic Flash SZ with the Ventus has gone from ~155-158mph to ~158-161, and much tighter dispersion. Hope that helps, but LMK if you had other specific questions.

I’m close to you in tempo and SS. When I was getting fit for my driver, HZRDUS yellow was best for me. Averaged about 110-114ss, ball speeds were upper 160’s and spin was low 2’s.

The fitter wanted me in a 6.5 but like you, I couldn’t turn the ball over. 6.0 in a 75g and I was pleased.

I’m not upset with my setup but I’m super curious about all this Ventus talk. The subjective helps but having some tech specs would help me decide if it’s worth digging in and going for it.

You’re showing some legit differences that justify it. If CC has a driver fitting sale in the future I’m going.

Thanks

Hzrdus yellow and ventus have completely different profiles and depending what ventus you are looking at would be a different launch profile. Ventus offers low, mid and mid high launch where the yellow is a low launch.

hzrdus yellow is a counterbalanced shaft where ventus has an accelerated taper and is very tip stiff.

do you have the original hzrdus yellow or the smoke yellow? These have slightly different profiles with the smoke having a stiffer midsection than the og hzrdus yellow

From what I’m reading, very different is a fair assessment. I was fit 2 years ago for my LST with the original, non-handcrafted.

All I’ve ever played were “boardy” shafts. Most notably the UST ProForce75 in the 975 and 905 series heads. Mitsubishi Rayon TP 70 LT in my R7 Quad...that shaft was the best and most favorite I’ve ever played.

As I get older, moving towards something with a little more “feel” as it loads up while maintaining lower spin is something that appeals to me.

The websites are only so helpful, I appreciate those who spoke up and offered info.

LM numbers.

I’ve seen many claim tighter dispersion and those results would be easier to find by talking to players who’ve been fit into one of these.

Those are going to very from golfer to golfer. Even someone with same ss and/or tempo as another will probably see different numbers. Clubhead, loft and ball are going to play factors.

Theres a thread on wrx for the ventus black and another for member reviews for all 3 shafts. Those should have some on numbers

For what it's worth I just went through a fitting at Club Champion this week and the Ventus Blue 6X beat out my Hzrdus Smoke Black shaft (stock Callaway) hands down.  Spin was pretty low for both shafts but carry and total distance increased quite a bit with the Ventus.  Most importantly that nice little dispersion circle shrunk with the Ventus.

Were you fit for the hzrdus shaft in that head? I would be curious to see how the ventus plays out for you. 1700 spin might be great on launch monitors but that is an spin that could be no bueno on the course. Typically with lower spin like that one would want higher launch to keep the ball in the air.

We’re not pros.

Also, this isn’t WRX. I was here looking for help...if you’re just going to keep throwing jabs at me I’d prefer you move along.

You are right we aren’t pros and the slower we swing the more spin we need. Bucky is about 4 mph slower than the avg tour pro and is getting roughly 700rpm less that what pros look for with similar launch.

low spin and more carry and total may look good on a launch monitor but may not be playable on the course. Spin is what keeps the ball in the air, hit a bad shot where spin drops off and that ball goes nowhere.

theres a lot of things in a shaft and head combo that go into dispersion and launch. To each their own but looking at one persons swing numbers between two shafts only shows what the shaft will do for that person.

Thanks for clarifying. Finding that sweet spot of optimal launch and spin is definitely a case by case basis.

This is what I’m learning from those of you who are well read and experienced on this subject.

That’s where a good fitting comes into play. The truth is that if one is properly fit for shaft and head combo an aftermarket shaft isn’t going to make a world of difference in launch numbers.

So many read low launch and/or low spin shaft and think that it’s going to lower their numbers but thousands of rpms or significant launch angle. I’ve had the pleasure to meet and spend time with the brains behind some shaft companies and they have all said a shaft isn’t going to drop 1000 rpm regardless if it’s profile.

the shaft can influence how one delivers the club which will improve swing path and delivery this influencing launch numbers but the shaft itself won’t change numbers drastically.

there is a lot of hype around the ventus and it’s a great shaft but so is the graphite design ad, Accra tz5/6, ust attas line and the lin-q. I’ve swung several in the same head and other than feel the numbers weren’t significantly different
