Mr.Bee
Hey guys, I took a lesson the other day and my new swing felt good but now seems like i have problem to replicate the check points on my backswing ....and that screws up the rest of my swing. Any thoughts how to replicate lessons and develop a new muscle memory ? Edited April 16, 2019 by Mr.Bee pib
THEZIPR23
Did your instructor give you any drills? If so work on those. If not get some from her/him to help ingrain those movements. It is pretty much the norm that with every lesson you go backwards before moving forward. Slow deliberate moves help tremendously. Also you can video (easy to do with phones) yourself to make sure you are hitting the positions you want. Any drills he gave you would be an excellent starting point, and if he didn't give you any I'd follow up with him to request some. Also for future lessons, I strongly recommend taking a video camera or setting up your phone to record the lesson (with the instructor's permission). This way, you have something to go back to and reference. DiscipleofPenick
If you have a full length mirror you could swing slowly in front of that to check positions. DaveP043
What's important to you? You're trying to make a change, right? So the change is the most important thing when you're practicing. You're likely to have pretty screwed up swings as you're re-training yourself. Keep at it, with whatever drills or slow-motion movements or partial swings the instructor used to get you into the right (changed) positions during the lesson. If it feels a bit uncomfortable, there's a chance you're doing the right thing. If it feels just perfect, its pretty likely you're doing what felt "right" before the lesson, and that you're not changing a thing. I agree with some of the others, using your camera to video your work can help. You have to look at it after each swing, to confirm that you're doing what you're supposed to be doing. Slow-motion work with a mirror can do some of the same thing. You develop "muscle memory" by doing something over and over. Make sure the "something" is the RIGHT thing. cnosil 1 Quote Irons Titleist T200, AMT Red stiff Rogue SubZero, GD YS-Six X T22 54 and 58 wedges 7-wood 5-wood B60 G5i putter Right handed Reston, Virginia

During the lesson, did the instructor use alignment sticks or mention any specific movement patterns to help you feel what you needed to do? Make sure that your at-home practice setup mirrors (within reason) what you were doing with the instructor. Make sure you're listening to the instructors instructions rather than simply trying to replicate the positions you see on the video. You have to remember that video is a 2D format and will flatten out a lot of what you'd see in real life - much can be lost in translation. As mentioned before, drills, drills, drills, and if he didn't give you any make a request for some - even if you're just asking him for some good YouTube videos or something. Mr.Bee
Thanks for your responds. Is anyone out there knows any training device that would be pre adjusted for my specific check points and lead me there, just to develop muscle memory before I go play....? cnosil
You haven't provided any specifics for the checkpoints that you are trying to achieve or if the instructor gave you any specific dills. Because we don't know what you are trying to accomplish it isn't possible to provide an answer on training aids that would help.
