FrogginBullfish
TaylorMade had a fun video with Tiger and Day hitting bunker shots where Tiger was saying amateurs shouldn't play lower than 12 degrees of bounce.Sent from my Pixel 2 using MyGolfSpy mobile app gaussman1, null and Rtracymog 3 Quote DRIVER PXG 0811XF GEN4 (10.5°) FAIRWAY WOODS PXG 0341XF GEN4 (16°) HYBRIDS PXG 0317XF GEN4 (19°), PXG 0317X GEN4 (22°) IRONS PXG 0311T GEN3 (5 - 9) WEDGES TAYLORMADE MG3 (45°, 50°, 55° TW Grind, 60° TW Grind) PUTTER PXG BATTLE READY ONE & DONE
FrogginBullfish
My lowest bounce specialist wedge is my 58° at 10°. I've got a 54° with 12° and I used to bag a 56° with 14°. I can't see myself going below 10° of bounce on a club I use around the green, which are shots I pretty much exclusively hit with my 54° or 58°. I'm able to do everything I need to around the greens with those two clubs and the higher bounce has definitely been beneficial to my bunker play.Sent from my Pixel 2 using MyGolfSpy mobile app Quote DRIVER PXG 0811XF GEN4 (10.5°) FAIRWAY WOODS PXG 0341XF GEN4 (16°) HYBRIDS PXG 0317XF GEN4 (19°), PXG 0317X GEN4 (22°) IRONS PXG 0311T GEN3 (5 - 9) WEDGES TAYLORMADE MG3 (45°, 50°, 55° TW Grind, 60° TW Grind) PUTTER PXG BATTLE READY ONE & DONE
PlaidJacket
I couldn't tell you what the bounce on my wedges are. So I looked on Wishon's website briefly and specifically at the wedges like I play. The PCF Micro-Tour models. The only mention of bounce I could find is in the heel of these wedges where there is Zero bounce. I recall when I was being fit for my irons my fitter ask about playing conditions and grass where I most often play. Bermuda. As is the case at most courses around Texas. Our fairways at home and around the greens are usually closely mown and pretty tight. Anyway... whatever the bounce on my wedges are I've been able to successfully play not only at home but away and out of state even. Ignorance is bliss? LOL Bounce for those wedges are 5, 12, 8 and as you said 0 on the heel side. Per the website the wedges are designed with Wishon Golf’s unique “zero-bounce heel” – all the bounce has been removed from the heel area of the sole to allow golfers to roll the face open without raising the leading edge. A key to playability from thin grass and even hardpan. GolfSpy_APH
Have to say going from the trusty Rusty's which dont have a whole lot of bounce to the glide wedges which have a significant amount it made a huge difference. So much easier ... Still have the cobras, but can't see myself going back anytime soon unless I have them bent to give more loft and more bounce. Kenny B
Bounce is your friend. With that said, too much bounce is not good for firm turf. I recently bought a Callaway PM 54º/14º with the C-grind, and it's nice out of fluffy lies. However, after several attempts I quit using it from fairway lies because it has too much bounce. I will save it for when I play wetter, softer conditions, but I live in a desert so most likely will use it when traveling. Shankster
Lots of bounce/wedge threads...Took my old 60° with 10° of bounce out for practice today. Much better strikes than the 06° of bounce for sure, but not perfect strikes. I think 12°-14° would give me that nice crunchy strike.Could be the slightly wider sole. The Vokey K grind 60° sounds intriguing. cnosil
bellairemi
What complicates the bounce discussion for me is that sole width does affect the overall bounce - hence the term "effective bounce". Some companies take that into account when listing their bounce numbers, while others do not (at least according to my fitter). My current SW has "only" 8 degrees of bounce but a wider sole and is actually more effective from bunkers than my former one with 14* but a narrower sole.
