Zero offset irons...I mean none - absolutely zero - for average players?

I’m not a fan of big offsets, but zero offset...damn that’s scary!

@deejaid

I'm in the process of buying new irons and looking at DTC companies due to pricing. I love the zero offset idea and saw that you test them!! Would you reccomend? Do they look nice!? I was considering the Ben Hogan PTx Pro/Icon combo, but damn, there is way just too much offset.

Would love to hear your thoughts!!

The Arias are quality irons. The zero offset is cool but I didn’t care for the size of the heads, just too big for me, and the sole grind was not what I like.

I tested the Hogan combo and they are a much better club than the Arias, at least for me. The Hogan’s size and shape, at least in the Icon, is absolutely perfect. The PTx Pro’s are a little clunky but still pretty compact.

Yes the Hogan’s have a little offset but offset is just one factor in achieving the overall design and performance of the club and for me the Hogan’s are a more complete design.

I'd also like to see them make a zero offset hybrid.  I prefer a hybrid that has a little onset like a mini fairway wood so that I won't hit it left.  Maltby made one years ago called the CT250 that was exactly this and I played them for years.

Came to this thread looking for zero-offset iron info.  I'm about to pull the trigger on a set of Taylormade R9 TP B-stamps and see what happens.  But I saw your comment and Sub70 has what you are looking for.  I tested the Sub70 949x Pro hybrid this year and love it.  Its still in the bag and will take a lot to remove it.  its a neutral bias hybrid that is cost effective and has juice to it.

Quick follow up, the set on ebay is way to expensive for a set of ten year old irons without the pitching wedge.  And the other available set of R9 TP B stamps would require a shaft pull and new install as I most likely can't handle a tour level X-stiff shaft.  Probably still try and get them and put them to work, but not going to overpay.

Does anyone know of another brand that made a set of CB or MB irons that have little to no offset?  This is clearly a hard thing to search for as companies don't really advertise or widely sell these tour issue sets.  Feels like Mizuno coould have made something like this at some time.

Did KZG make some zero offset irons?  I’ll google and post what I find.

EDIT:  KZG made some irons called ZO for zero offset but I think they actually had a tiny bit of offset.

14 of the following:

Ping G425 Max

Callaway Epic Max 5 wood

Cobra F9 Speedback 7/8 wood set at 23.5 degrees

Callaway Epic Max 11 wood

PXG 0211ST 6-GW

Cobra LTx 5-GW (never hit the 5)

Hogan sand wedge 56 degree bent to 54

Maltby M Series+ 54 degree

Ping Glide 3.0 Eye2 58 degree

Ping Glide 3.0 60 degree

Evnroll ER2

Ping Sigma 2 Anser

Aside from the Arias irons that were mentioned in the first posts of the thread, the zeroest of the zero offset irons I've ever seen are the Tommy Armour 986 Tours.  Blades from the mid 80s to the mid 90s, really have no offset.  Might even be onset.

Probably a bit difficult to find them now.  Occasional sets are around, but they're not exactly common.

I should see if I can track down an address pic of the one I've got shafted up at moment...

The Mizuno JPX  Fli-Hi Hybrids, or iron replacement hybrids as they call them, have onset. Plus shorter shafts so they indeed genuine iron replacements.

The Holy Grail isn't necessarily zero or very low offset irons. Many blades have very low offset, and from memory the Cobra Ricky Fowler blades have none.

The issue is making such a beast suitable for 'average' players.

I've been searching for such a unicorn for years. Rightly or wrongly I blame offset for my iron hooking tendencies.

I currently use Player's Distance irons with less offset than most (Cobra Forged Tec).

But there is a super game improvement iron with less offset than all but the bladiest blades.

Check out the offset specs for the Cleveland XL Halo irons, and their forerunners.

I would prefer a little bit of offset in the longer irons at least. That looks severe.

I'm not sure why other than I might just be used to it.   In fact, I'd bet that's the only reason.   I hit metals, right?

I do remember looking at Ping Eye 2s when they came out.  They were hugely popular, and everybody I knew seemed to be buying them,

but even the wedges had massive, one-iron look offset.

I simply couldn't play that and got progressively offset Wilson 1200GEs instead--which I liked, by the way.

I pretty much stuck with stainless irons until 2009.

Found this thread after thinking maybe my hook tendency with my longer clubs is due to offset. My 4 iron is 6 mm and almost feels like square is aimed too far right and with an open face. Any body else gaming these zero offset CBs?

Arias now has a CR-16 cavity back.  It's got a shorter blade length, and what looks like a less deep cavity.
