I went out today for a quick 9 with my gamers. After hitting around 200 balls at the range yesterday with the F9s, I could hardly swing. I didn’t record anything because I didn’t want to skew my average worse than it already is. I did hit a few shots with the F9s and these lofts have to be seriously jacked. I flushed an 8 iron 186, that shouldn’t happen.

More to come

I'm going to play at least 9 tonight and creep ever closer to my completed baseline. Nice to see all of my fellow competitors getting as much golf as me 😁😎

Here's what I found:  Notch Technology is an exclusive engineered design that allows the sole and trailing edge to sit lower on the ground at address on both square and open-face shots. This allows players to effectively add/subtract loft from their shot.

We'll see how well that works once I get a chance to take them out onto the course.

That's good, I'm really looking forward to your thoughts on the one lengths. Everthing I've heard about the F9 driver has been great, I'm not suprised your liking it.

Interesting, that's the first thing I've heard about golf that actually makes sense.

Ball placement was the hardest thing to adjust to for me with the one lengths, that and the one length wedges out of a bunker.

There was a lot of talk about wedges yesterday so for today's pictures I thought I would skip over the irons and feature the King Black Wedge.

Simpy put these things look like ninja assassins.  From Cobra: "KING Black wedges blend precision, versatility and durability with a new DBM (Diamonized Black Metal) finish, 100% CNC milled grooves, and tour-inspired grinds."

I went with the True Temper S200 all black shaft in 50°, 54°, and 58°.  These are probably the best looking wedges I've ever owned.

1542308461_wedgeback.jpg.cba75a686f906c0eb7e3c1c2fafda919.jpg688767357_wedgesblackandblack.jpg.1706e25ecb159d64e6a8ccce617fa68f.jpgwedges.jpg.bd142476740b79dbde609e9ec564fda4.jpg

Cobra offers three different grind options.  I went with Versatile on each as I usually don't take too deep of divots and the lofts fit in perfectly with the 45° PW.  The sole definitely has a different look compared to my Vokeys.  A little bit wider and the interesting notch.

The Versatile grind is the mid-bounce option.  Cobra seems to be pushing people towards it with double the loft choices as any other grind option.

1617737178_Wedgegring-bounce.JPG.2c74646f0dad7147539060cef4d0f314.JPG

With a 45° PW I knew I wanted my wedges at 50, 54, and 58 to keep as consistent gapping as possible.  I debated going Classic grind and having each bent 1-2° but decided to go with the Versatile standard specs.

My current Vokey SM5s are 52° with 12° of bounce, 56° with 10°, and 60° with 11° (AP2 PW is bent to 47°).  If I struggle with the new wedges I'll definitely look at the decrease in bounce as one of the potential issues.

I have a question for the one length guys and if it's something you're going to address in your stage one's you can save it for them. When you get fitted did they have you hit multiple irons? Say 5 iron, 7 iron, wedge, or does Cobra have a system to match the set based on your 7 iron?

I mean there are no real changes you can make between irons. When I got fitted I hit the 7 iron and used the mizuno shaft optimizer. The fitters big concern was with shorter shafts and heavier heads that improper swing weighting could cause me to feel like the long irons were like "kids clubs" as he put it.

So I specified a swing weight when I sent my order in and Cobra happily obliged. We also went up an inch so my irons are really more like 5 iron standard length but I'm 6'3 so I think that's fine.

After the range session yesterday I can confirm that the weighting is really nice. For reference I'm at a D4 for all my irons. I think the standard Swing weight for the f9s is d0 and my old irons are D2.

I haven't checked them but they were part of the spec sheet and they feel significantly heavier than my current irons and the stock f9s I swung at the local pgass

Thanks Team bardle! I am not at all very versed on the intricacies of club fitting and wasn't sure if they needed to manipulate the swingweight of each club to compensate for the different heads. That's one of the things I love about this forum, there is something I can learn from it every day.

I'm still debating what I want to write up about the irons so today's pictures will be of the bag and headcovers.

I went with the Ultralight Stand Bag in Peacoat.  Overall the bag seems like a very high quality product.  Strong zippers, large pockets, and very sturdy legs.  The top of the bag is a 5 way.  My old stand bag had 6 dividers so the only change I've needed to make is combine my putter in the driver/fairway section.

bag4.jpg.e71b70a26daa3bc750be406c1333d8d2.jpgBag.jpg.e59c47b0f1442fd686b38b14d1a0b294.jpgbag5.jpg.5a668c297149ea841cc13c7d1bc4b9ac.jpg

My only complaint?  Clubs can be moved around quite a bit when you set the bag on the ground since the base of the bag acts as the triggering mechanism for the legs.  You can see in the picture below how the 9 iron popped above the 8 and PW, and the 50° wedge is covering the other two wedges.  Is it a big deal?  Not really.

bag6.jpg.0877d12451e8340618f66e539dcadb01.jpg

The headcovers are all high quality but a little on the large size.  You can see from the pictures above that having 4 of the Cobra headcovers in my bag is a little too much.  I'll probably end up switching them out for some Badger themed covers.

Headcover2.jpg.1d2f2082f7fab13550f15a5037b1eee4.jpgHeadcover.jpg.73e4922f5069e902540fa50e1e76b263.jpg

I do like the attention to detail on the driver and fairway covers with the CNC Milled Face insert on the top.

60340212_headcoverCNCmilledface.jpg.df98638c7a909ae4c5317e89cd811973.jpg

This will come in handy when I forget to take the cover off and still expect a good drive.

Welp. Time for some international education to occur.

I thought that since the flag of New Zealand was red, white, and blue they are the colors of the country. (Hooray ignorance!)

What are the official colors of New Zealand?

Thanks Team bardle! I am not at all very versed on the intricacies of club fitting and wasn't sure if they needed to manipulate the swingweight of each club to compensate for the different heads. That's one of the things I love about this forum, there is something I can learn from it every day.

Hey, no problem. Cobra calls it Progressive shaft weighting so like for the KBS tours, they work down in weight as they get to the "longer" clubs so Tour 80 in the 4-6 and 90 in the 7-9.

That being said I am not sure what that is supposed to accomplish and also all of my clubs are Modus3 Tour 105's so they did not use this "progressive shaft weighting" on my set as far as I can tell...

Interesting, I would assume that Cobra has the heads set up so the swing weights stay similar especially since they are selling them as one lengths, they should know how to get the swing weights right. It's not like I bought a set of AP2 heads and stuck them all on to 37" shafts. They wouldn't be built for single length, so the weights would be all wrong. I do think the progressive shaft is more so the speed increases in the long irons, so you can elevate them. And the heavier shafts in the shorter clubs are to give more control and maybe slow down the swing a tad. Obviously this doesn't apply to you, but if you ordered stock, I think that is what Cobra was trying to do.
