2019 Official Forum Member Review- Golf Pride Grips

@knightsofnii These are the grips I have been looking at for a little while now, so I'm anxious to see if you end up liking them. First thing that came to mind was, why in the world did Golf Pride not format "Tour Velvet" in a straight line instead of stacked? Interesting tidbit there. Where did you get that regripping station thing from? I need to add something like that to my shop.

So far I like them.  Yes, the TV lettering underneath is strange.  I planned to install logo-down until I saw photos of them.

They are performing as advertised so far.

The grip station is from Golfsmith. It is more a club vise/alignment tool.  I just have a bucket on the floor to catch water.  I've been using water activated tape but I just ran out.   The measurement grid on the jig I can't figure out, I only use it for... nothing.  The hinged part puts a gap in the ruler and it doesn't show true club or shaft lengths.   But it is great for holding clubs!  Find on ebay maybe.  Dont pay over like $50  for one.

Stage 1 is here:

"just one awesome wife"

That made me laugh so much.

Nice stage 1's so far @knightsofnii @romeopapazulu @gchester33! I'll definitely be following the TV +4 testers closely as I just slapped them on all of my irons and really dig them so far.

You know, I don't even remember writing that.  Maybe it was a Freudian slip?

Had a chance to play 9 holes on some slow bumpy greens at the end of last week. First round with the new SNSR grip on the putter and I gotta say I'm a fan thus far. Had 15 putts and no 3 putts which pretty much hits right on my target for a round. 18Birdies says I gained 1.78 strokes putting. As expected I liked the hand positioning and felt it provided a very natural extension of the hands to the putter which led to smooth stroke. Excited to get this out a bit more.

Some out-takes and stuff that didn't make the cut for my stage 1:

This bunker shot produced a near perfect ring around the ball.  Forget the Moon, to get out of sand, swing for Saturn.  😉

My 56° wedge is used only for sand and flop shots.  16° bounce is very helpful.

When I opened the box, it smelled like a tire shop 🤣

Here's a comparison in diameter of the medium to a regular.  And yes, the grip cap is flat.  I am very tempted to try Arccos or some other grip tracker.

Thread bump. Stage one is up for me.
Stage 2 will be extended for me as during my round yesterday I stepped in a hole and stretched my mcl in a way it shouldn't go as I was walking off a green.

Sorry to hear that! Rest easy.

I stepped on a drain cover once when backing off my stance, it broke, my leg went in up to my thigh. Tons of torque on my leg, scary as heck but I was uninjured, just super muddy

Good job on Stage 1 fellas! I ordered a set of Tour Velvet Plus4s as soon as they were available and couldn't be happier with them. I do have the 'Golf Pride' down on my driver and FW and agree 100% that the small 'Tour Velvet' looks odd on the back side. Not a huge deal for me, but it just seems unnecessary. Tour Velvets have been my go to grip for years, but with the Plus4s I won't be switching until I need to refresh with new Plus4s. Looking forward to the rest of your reviews!

So far so good.  Last week the shot of the day was sticking a 6 iron (ZGRIP ALIGN enabled) to 6 ft. from 193 yards.  Unfortunately, the next shot was not eligible for shot of the day.

I don't think I am going to have any problems with the roughness of the ZGRIP.  It is really really firm, but that hasn't bothered me too much yet.  One of the biggest differences I can tell for now is that they are standard sized grips with no extra tape at the bottom.  I had left every other club or so with the UTx's to give me a better chance to do a side by side, and I think I prefer the extra wraps I put under the UTx.

I took a micrometer to the ZGRIP, UTx and the TS1 I have on my 58deg.  I have a chart showing the profile of each of these as they are set up (I'll post that in a bit).  The UTx and TS1 are pretty similar though the bottom hand area.  I measured the grips on the side and from top to bottom to see the size of the rib.  My homemade reminders came up with the same size rib to a few hundredths of a mm, but there was certainly more variation as it went down the grip.  The ZGRIP was much more consistent.

I went out this last weekend as well and by some dumb luck I think half my shots were with my 8 iron which still has the UTx wrap.  I don't know why that never got swapped to the regular UTx end of last season.  That will come off soon and I will try to put a couple extra wraps under the ZGRIP to see if I can match the profile of the UTx's.

Anyone else play with reminders?  Do you go all the way to the wedges?  I am leaning towards leaving a round grip on the 54 and 58 because these are the ones I open up most often.  The TS1 was not my favorite on the driver last year, but it is killing it on the 58.

That sand ring is amazing.  I don't think I have ever seen it like that before.

Made a trip to top golf and the ALIGN tech sure does seem to help on less than full swings. I haven't had much luck with these shots besides the wedges, but did pretty well today. The reminder seems to give one extra feeling of where the face is, so squaring the face without overcooking it was a breeze.

I put in a 40min range session, then played 9 holes, all gloveless.  The weather was overcast with chances of rain, it did drizzle for anfew moments.

My left hand felt fine.  At the turn I added the left hand glove.  I made it through 18 and shot an 89, which is low for me :).

As my right hand builds up, the grips are getting more comfortable.  I definitely prefer the +4 shape.

I'm not looking forward to it, but I still have to try these in the rain.  I've played in wet conditions and they were fine, but I still need to see how they handle rain and rain gloves.  🙂

Just checking in because I have been a near ghost on the forum and haven’t posted my stage 1 yet 😩

https://giphy.com/gifs/Ob7p7lDT99cd2/html5

Long story short, I had a last minute business trip sprung on me that I had to say yes to. I can write the review on the road I said. Yeah, not so much. Will have something up by the weekend and very sorry for the delay. It isn’t like me.

My calluses are getting built up on my hands, though a split has occurred on my right ring finger.

20190513_110704.thumb.jpg.ead9034f202226e4ea14b5d380c35bcd.jpg

Hoping this heals up over the next few days.  In the mean time, my back is sore, so I may skip a few days and play on Friday, then I have a lesson Sat.  So, I have time to grip the remaining clubs!

Wow.
This from the test grips or is this normal with any grip?

Got out for a full round last weekend but wasn't able to score myself with 18birdies (app was being a PITA). Didn't putt amazingly but I do feel like the grip is improving my consistency in hand placement and putt speed. I know I always had some issues with the superstroke where I would have to focus on putting my hand in a consistent location on the grip but I feel that the SNSR grip naturally causes my hands to fall to the same location everytime.

I finally installed the remaining grips.  Did my 3w logo down by accident, but I decided to leave it.

The install was so much easier using real tape and solvent, as opposed to water activated tape.  No need to blow them on.

Check out what happens when 100psi doesnt quite break the seal!

This is the first time I've had all matching grips since my starter set.  I'm pretty excited 🙂

RW's one word review - FIRM
      Hopefully you like calluses!

I've been playing the Lamkin UTx Midsize Reminder for the last season or so, and wanted to see how the Golf Pride Z Grip Align's compare.  My biggest issue with the UTx is the loss of tackiness and grip texture mid round.  I've realized I must have extremely dirty hands because to keep them tacky, I have to clean the grips during my round.  I play in the south, so the necessity for a cord grip is a must.  Hence my gravitation to the Z Grip. Golf Pride hails the Z Grip as the firmest grip model with "heavy cord texture and moisture management."  And indeed it is firm.  I mean really firm, like don't hit one thin.  Ever.

Its also noticeably thinner than the UTx Midsize.  My 6 iron was gripped first with no additional wraps, and that's when I noticed the size difference.  Not to make the same mistake twice, my Fairway Metal was wrapped with 3 additional wraps of tape.  These additional wraps made the grip closest to the size of the UTx Midsize.

Reminder grips have been around forever, and in Golf Pride's eyes, what's old is new right?  I enjoy a reminder.  I've had grip issues forever, and they help me place my hands where they should be.  Does the Align tech help - Yes.  Is it any better than a standard reminder grip - No.  One downside to reminder grips is they really shouldn't be played with wedges in my opinion.  If you open the club face at all the "Align strip" gets all out of whack and really throws your "align"ment off.  (Currently waiting on the Lamkin Players Cord to come in)
      Final Thoughts
The Golf Pride Z Cord Align is a great grip if you enjoy a firm feel and need to be "reminded" where your hands go.  I'll play these until the wear out, or want something new, but will not be purchasing again.
