TESTERS ANNOUNCED (4) PING Long Game Fitting/Gapping Review

Recommended Posts

Just got back from the range - of course I spent time checking my gaps between 6 iron, 5 hybrid, 4 hybrid, 3 wood and driver. :) I’m thinking you may read about this as a part of my stage one review so I will keep those results to myself for now.

I also walked a couple of holes playing my Pro VIx vs a Chrome soft that I had in my bag. I knew that the Pro VIx was longer but wow - my two drives with it were 236 and 231 according to voice Caddy (longer for real because they were down wind) and 223 and 225 with the chrome soft. I hit all four drives pretty well, all in the fairway.

I plan on getting to the range sometime in the next coming week and doing the same! Excited because it’s definitely not a portion of my bag that I tend to focus on in terms of gapping!

Congratulations.  cant wait to see the results.   I am looking into replacing my 3 wood.

My pro in Wisconsin did not believe in 3 woods. He almost always recommended a 4 wood for his members. I wouldn’t be at all surprised if a number of us end up with 4 wood or a strong 5 wood rather than 3 wood.

Also I was stunned last year at my Titleist ball fitting when the fitter told me that I’d benefit from an SGI in 6 and 7 iron - he was right - it’s just my swing - if you’re going to swing your swing you will need to have equipment to fit it - I’ve never been fit for 160-200 before - I have been fit for irons, driver, fairway wood but never in that void - I’ve always settled for get it around the green and try and get up and down for par.

Can’t wait to see where this leads us to

I'm very interested to see how this goes especially since I had a 'full bag fitting' last year. Thinking back on how it went, it was primarily based around 6 iron and driver so in a sense it wasn't 'full bag' at all. With the focus being on the variety of clubs in the long iron to FW range I imagine we'll see some cool combinations amongst the four of us!

I have my Cobra 3-4 set to 16°, and was holding out to see who got picked here before I go try 5 woods.  🙂

I spent some time this morning looking over the G410 FWs, hybrids and crossovers. The possibilities are....endless! I was also comparing the specs to my current gapping thinking about what the fitter might recommend. I've already made some space for the potential changes on my equipment spreadsheet (yes....I'm that golf nerd 🤓) as a means of comparing and contrasting once the testing kicks off. The excitement has only increased since being selected for this excellent opportunity and I can't wait to get started!

I would love to see your equipment spreadsheet. I won't admit that I may or may not have done this before...

That's awesome, more detailed than I had. I don't know if you use shot tracking but may be worth adding yardages to this to help with your gaping. I have found that with the newer clubs and jacked lofts gaping is very difficult.

Well it's time to fill the the Gap in this thread with some Testers.

image.jpeg

Join the four testers who join me in filling the gap between the last iron we hit effectively and driver.   As mentioned in the original post these testers will be fit by a local PING Rep or a Top PING fitter in their area, to insure they get the best possible fitting.    So let's get on men!

@revkev

@TSauer

@PAgolfer2017

@mr.hicksta

You all will be getting a PM from me later today with some information that I will need right away and wilth more instructions....But in the meantime, I'll just leave you with this

#FITTINGMATTERS

Congratulations!!  Great set of testers!

Oh hey y'all 😄

I've been perusing the shaft offerings on Ping today, daydreaming about possible configurations. And the more I read up on the G410 line, the more excited I get about going through this process. I've gamed a lot of the shafts Ping offers, and some of them are similar to what I'm using now. I'm most intrigued by the Crossover and I'll be curious to see if the fitter thinks it's a fit for my game!

      Almost a total remodel of the bag.

       Glide Forged 60 KBS Hi Rev 2.0
       SS 28 CS 33"

      Driver: Thank you MGS, flat out the best driver I have ever had in the bag.
      3W: A random purchase after being unable to hit the original epic 3w. Put same shaft that I was fit for in the epic and it has been a match made in heaven. Absolute money from the tee and I know exactly what it will do from the fairway. Combined with the driver there are not many par 5's that I can't reach.
      5W: Solid club but this spot has always been a trouble spot in my bag and that hasn't changed in 20 years.
      Irons: Love the combo and they feel absolutely amazing. All of them are 1* strong, standard lie and +1/2" Biggest thing I was looking for in making the change was more control. They definitely fly different than P790's but hopefully after an adjustment period they will meet or exceed my expectations.
      Wedges: A different look from what I am used to but feel is amazing. The shaft on full swings is so easy for me to deliver correctly.
      Putter: Not a fast revolving door but one that moves some. Have gotten used to the look of the center shaft but still struggling with alignment some.
      Ball: Titleist PROV1X #23 imprinted with THEZIPR in blue. Have played this ball since its birth and while I have tried many other options nothing has been able to kick it out.
      Rangefinder: Bushnell PRO X2
      Glove: Footjoy Weathersof. Love the Ping tour glove but at the rate I go through gloves I just can't justify the price difference.
      Shoes: Ecco Biom G 3 BOA and Biom Hybrid 3 BOA. Most comfortable shoes I have ever worn.

      When it comes to PING many things come to mind, quality, engineering, performance and irons are among the first things most people will think of.   And with the release earlier this year of the G410 irons, PING has hit on each one of those characteristics.
      Following the huge success of the G400 irons, PING has hit a home run with the striking black and red colors of this iron, as well as a being a bit more streamlined in all the right places.   PING has achieved the rare feat of providing an iron that has a profile appealing to even the most discerning of golfers, but yet still offering the forgiveness and help that higher handicaps look for.

      We are looking for three forum members to join staff member Golfspy_Stroker in testing, reviewing and keeping a set of these G410's built to their custom specs.  Testing will require a nearly two month commitment of putting the irons in play on the course, at the range and providing ongoing commentary in the forum thorough out the process.
      As an extra bonus to the irons, the selected testers will have the option to choose Golf Pride Tour Velvet grips equipped with Arccos.  The clubs will come with a 99 day free trial to arccos.  After that the tester would be responsible for paying for the subscription in order to continue it.   It will be a great way to add data to your review.
      PING has opened this testing to all golfers regardless of country of residence.   All you have to do to be eligible for the testing is follow the below instructions.

      In a post in this thread please provide the following information...AND DO NOT QUOTE this post when replying!
      First Name/State or Country of residence
      Handicap
      Current irons in Play
      The carry distance of the your 7 iron
      That's it.   Good luck to everybody
      We'll be selecting the testers within the next 10 to 14 days, so check back to see if you've been selected!
