Popular Post FromRightToLeft
Hello! This is my first review on the site and since I recently purchased one of the new Hogan Equalizer Sand Wedges (56) I thought it was the perfect item to try reviewing. I have had it now for two weeks and have played 4 rounds with it. I decided to purchase it for two main reasons: 1) I have always loved Hogan products and my Apex SW wasn't really doing it for me. 2) I appreciate this companies approach in lowering the cost by being factory direct. The downside of that of course is that I didn't try it before I bought it but I believe they have a good return policy. The wedge cost $105-USD plus shipping. I live in Canada and received it in about 10 days. It was very well packed and arrived in perfect condition. I ordered it with the recoil shaft, reg flex to match the rest of my irons. There was no up-charge for that which was nice. I got it in chrome but it is also available in black. You can also get it in a variety of lie and lofts to fit your swing. I got it in Standard/Standard. Unfortunately you can't get any different types of grinds at this point, and I did ask. Guys, I love the look of this club! They did a great job on the design front and you can tell they care about what they do, it's not just talk. In these two pictures below you can see there are some dings already on the club from moving in my bag. The folks at Hogan do include a warning that the type of steel they are using is very soft and will ding easily. They were correct and I think that in a few months this club will look pretty beaten up. They suggest iron head covers lol. Noooooooo.... Performance: I am currently learning golf again left handed due to a bad back injury (it's easier on my back swinging left) however I am hitting some good shots and this club has been performing great. Maybe better than all my other clubs. The feel is just fantastic (like butta) and I have an easy time judging distance. Out of the sand it worked well also, although I haven't been in many traps yet. They do not give you any options for grips, you have to take the Lamkin they give you although you can get it over-sized or standard which is nice. It looks fantastic (love the "Hogan" logo) but I can't stand this type of grip. I use Winn Excel Wraps which are totally different but to each their own on that. I'll be replacing it tomorrow. Value: Excellent! My other top wedge choice was a Callaway Mack Daddy that would have cost me almost exactly double of what I paid for this Hogan, even after shipping. Overall I give this wedge an 8.5/10 - It doesn't get a 10/10 because of the lack of grip and bounce/grind options and also the fact that it is not going to look very good in a year or two. You get that feel though so very worth it to me! My progress as a lefty so far has been 123, 112, 117, 112, 121 (super windy) and my last round was 108 which I was pumped for. No back issues which is much more important to me. revkev
@fromRightYoLeft - I’ve been doing SuperSpeed golf workouts since last September. Those protocols require swinging left handed. While I can’t get my SS up close to my righty speed, lefty, the thought of actually hitting shots or having to hitting a shot with touch lefty is not on the radar for me. Whatever we can do to encourage you to plug through it! Are you still putting righty at least? I am a sick man and so I decided to putt and chip left handed as well haha. For me I just wanted to see if I could go all the way and do it. I actually have a couple of bets with buddies that I'll beat them by years end. They both usually shoot around 90. MY $25 and a six pack of beer vs their $200. Again I'm sick I know but it makes it more fun and add's a bit of motivation. They can shoot over 100 on a bad round so you never know. Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy I am mostly loving the Hogan SW still. I now use it almost exclusively for chipping and pitching. You will get a LOT of spin on your shots with this club. I find more so than my Callaway MackDaddy's. I chip with the ball forward, handle raised and face open. Basically I maximize the bounce of the wedge for forgiveness and it also creates a lot of spin. The wedge has been great for this method except the grind is not perfect. The "C" grind on the Callaways works perfect for this chipping method, I just wish Hogan offered some custom grind options. I may get this one custom ground myself. gbtrsc
It was strange. I love the 50 degree with the Recoil F4, even for touch shots around the green. gbtrsc
Played with a guy at my club this evening that has a 54* Equalizer with a KBS Tour 90 in R flex. I tried it in several situations through our 9 holes. Full shots were high and short, which I attribute to the flex. Great turf interaction. Shallow divots. Around the greens, thesis thing was magic. Much better than the 56 with Recoil F4 that I just demoed for the last couple of weeks. I think my theory of needing a slightly heavier shaft and more swingweight in the shorter wedges has proven itself out. Probably ordering a 56 and 62 soon. Sox Fan
I am truly shocked that there has been no discussion of these wedges in either this thread or the review thread in almost a year. As long as they keep making them, I will keep buying and gaming them without even considering anything else. Not being the longest or most accuate ball striker in the world, wedges are my key to being able to maintain a mid-single digit index and these are the best I have ever played. Dead hands shots I like better with the Hogan’s because of the weight. Not as comfortable yet with the super fine touch flops and down hill 58 degree shots.
