SPY VIP Tony Covey MGS Posted February 10, 2011 SPY VIP Share Posted February 10, 2011 We know this is one many of you will be very interested in. Given the latest media go around between TaylorMade and Callaway, we're extremely anxious to put this one through our review process to see how the new "forged composite" performs. Matt Saternus
I'm hoping the review will answer my major question: how is this any different than the Diablo Octane? Follow me on Twitter: @MattSaternus
Guests Guest NatalShark Posted February 10, 2011 Guests Share Posted February 10, 2011 I'm hoping the review will answer my major question: how is this any different than the Diablo Octane? The Octane just has the Forged Composite crown, whereas I think the whole body of the Razr Hawk is made of Forged Composite. Looking fwd to the review too. SPY VIP Tony Covey MGS Posted February 10, 2011 Author SPY VIP Share Posted February 10, 2011 The RAZR Hawk is the direct replacement for the FT-9. The Octane is the direct replacement for Diablo (which once upon a time was a Bertha replacement). It used to be one was composite the other titanium, but Cally has moved to a 100% composite lineup. Mostly now it's all about shape. The RAZR is more traditional, whereas the Octane has a bit of a less conventional shape. Stock shafts differ as well (RIP vs. Project X). It's no different than what most of the OEMs do these days. The R11/Burner SuperFast combo is probably the best example, but I'd include PING G/I/K 15 on that list as well. The thing that made it unclear was that both were using forged composite as the major selling point, but there was no explanation of "Razr for better players, Octane for forgiveness" or something along those lines. The GreekGrind
Looking forward to the review as well. Will it be a review of the non tour model, or the tour model, or both models? Invictus. Exitus acta probat. Bona fide.
SPY VIP Tony Covey MGS Posted February 12, 2011 Author SPY VIP Share Posted February 12, 2011 The initial review will be for the standard / neutral model. We may do something with the draw biased version as well. . There are no immediate plans to review the tour model. NGage
Put me down as another looking forward to this review. I haven't been happy with a driver since my FT-3, and I've just moved away from Callaway because of that.....but I could always go home again. SPY VIP GolfSpy Dave Posted February 19, 2011 SPY VIP Share Posted February 19, 2011 Ok, its Decepticons time! I actually went Voltron with this one. Razr Hawk seems like one of the special weapons coming out of those magnificent five colored lions. I would find it refreshing if they just named the different level drivers "Hacker" and "Player". Seems like the target market for different drivers is fairly obvious...
