Major OEM Blades Leak?

FrogginBullfish

Recommended Posts

Just saw this tweet from New Level seemingly alluding that a major OEM has incoming blades that appear similar to their 623 irons.

I haven't been able to find anything about leaked blades from a major OEM so was wondering if anyone else might know what's being referred to in the tweet.

Also find it interesting when the New Level 623 irons are quite similar to Miura's MC-501s in design and, I might be wrong, but I believe the Miura's came out first.

Saw this the other day on a Facebook feed from another forum. Could be the major OEM that was being referred to.

I just don't get New Level's attitude.  The complain a lot.

And first to market? What? Other OEMS have been making blades long before New Level was even a thought

And save money?  Is this guy serious?

A 4-PW set of New Level blades with DG Shafts is $1,267 or $181 a club

Edit: After going back and forth with New Level on twitter, they said their clubs start a

A 4-PW set of Mizuno MP18s at launch were $1,050, or $150 a club

Edit: After going back and forth with NL on twitter, they informed me that their sets start at $159 a club, not the $181 a club that is listed on their website when looking at full sets.

New flash: $159 is still more than $150

Full of crap.  The clubs might be great, but they will be out of business in a few years because the owner doesn't know marketing basics or how to manage a social media presence.

Those New Levels also look very similar to the 639 MB fro Sub70 that's should be on their website in about 4 weeks. 4-P for right around 800, including shaft and grip upgrades.

The New Level blade looks like a knockoff Mizuno T Zoid from over a decade ago

The New Level blade looks an awful lot like the Miura MC-501 as well.  There's only so much you can do to a blade...  IMO, it looks nothing like the new Mizuno blade.

Am I the only one getting tired of all the milling just for aesthetics?

To me it actually cheapens the look, giving it a machine made look, not a hand ground and shaped blade by a skilled craftsman.

I haven't hit anything New Level so I don't want to discount the quality of the clubs but the owner really needs to get somebody with a shred of knowledge of social media and public relations on board because he's not doing himself any favours with how he's running things now.

Congrats to New Level for being more affordable than PXG

On the alternative side, the machine made club is likely to be made to much tighter tolerances than any human could manage.

Ultimately it's what you like the look of and what suits your game best that matters.

The feel and flight of the New Level blades are amazing. If that’s your cup of tea, I would give them a serious look.

Super Tour seems most likely.

ST = Square Toe?

The pictures show a very thin sole, and a very square toe.

Or Super Terrific? Super Tragic? Super Tour? Special Tour? Sell Thirty? Steel Turbine? Sniper Team? Seal Team? Special Technology?

I have a few others too.

No, you are absolutely right. I’m sure many like it as quite a few clubs have the CNC milled cavities or faces or both these days, just was never my favorite look and now it’s just getting a bit played out, for me at least.

I’m a Mechanic/Technician by trade. My tools are chrome, or black oxide. The satin finished tools look cheap and like I will break them, and I have.

I also don’t like the milling stuff. It is my only complaint about the new Wilson Blades. Much like carbon fiber “hoods” on drivers. I don’t like, but since it seems no one has ever seen milled tools, or 1990’s Honda hoods we are stuck with this trend for the foreseeable future.

Chrome is the standard old stuff. Black oxide is for impact wrenches, and other powered tools.

I prefer the black oxide tools over the chrome or satin.

Maybe I need some black golf clubs. They’re tools right?

Winner winner Chicken Dinner.

That was the first one that came to mind... I say enough “bad” things about PXG. Thanks for the assist.

I’m actually not an anti-PXG guy but I understand what you’re saying. Bob took his shot and so far he’s found a market segment, so fair play to him.

As far as innovation goes, I’ll spare us the dead horse but we all know there isn’t much that hasn’t been “admired” from the past. Let’s be real, just as@jlukes posted the TZoid iron, we all know you can only re-invent the wheel so many times.

I’m happy with my Hogan’s but I’m proud to say that at this point in my life, I’ll swing almost anything and keep an open mind.

When I first heard of PXG when Ryan Moore first started playing them I was fully onboard. Loved the breaking in to the industry with a bang thing.

I like the industrial look to the clubs. I am sure they are wonderful, and being a Marine, Mr. Parsons has that extra bit of respect from me.

I have grown out of the high speed low drag stuff I was into when they first hit the market, but if the right timing and such were to happen I’d bag them any day.

Edit: if Jason Bourne or John Wick we’re to play golf. They’d play PXG.

I think it’s just that pragmatism takes up more space in the brain as we grow older.

What would Dwight Schrute play? Sorry...if we’re going with the TV / Movie characters then I can’t help but throw an Office question in to partially derail this thread...🤦🏼‍♂️
