6’1” 12 year old son

We just started golf lessons for our 6’1” 12 year old son and he loves it! He’s had a miserable time with every other sport and has a very gentle spirit, so please don’t ask why he isn’t playing basketball or any other sport. He just turned 12 three weeks ago so he’ll probably grow at least three more inches. His instructor has been having him use Senior clubs (he’s VERY slim) because of the length and weight. His instructor also highly recommended to get at least a +1 for him since he was making contact with one they had on hand. 

Question: 

Is there an reasonably priced Senior +1 set that I can get him? Or which clubs/iron/drivers/hybrid are essential that I could start him off with? A men’s set would probably be too heavy and tiring for him.

Welcome! If you're looking used, you can search most reputable online retailers by shaft flex as well as length so you can turn up clubs that will work. You may also be able to buy a senior set and then have extenders added in by a local fitter. 

My son just turned 13 and is headed into his final year of PGA Jr as a 13u. The brand new Cobra King Jr clubs I bought him last season probably won't last this summer the way he's been growing, so I know the feeling. He quit baseball in order to play golf because he didn't like not being involved in the game much, either out in right field or on the bench.

Callaway Preowned offers clubs from past seasons at very good prices and usually in great condition. You can also order them customized to add length.

+1 in senior/light flex is definitely not mainstream.

I'm currently in a similar boat.  I just bought a new set of Callaway XJ's for my 11 year old daughter.  Her third set in as many years.  They grow so fast it's almost scary.
