Faithful to one putter, or a rotation?

I have had a SeeMore Brass Blade in my bag since 1999.  I have gotten to a point where the center-shafted option just isn't appealing anymore.  Coupled with the annoying "ting" the modern urethane ball makes off the brass face, I felt it was time for a change.  I bought a Scotty Cameron Select Newport 2 last night.  I have been looking at it for a few months now.  The assistant at my club offered it to me at $60 off retail.  Not a huge savings but I could sell it right now for more than I paid for it.

It's the first putter I have bought since an Odyssey White Hot back in the early 00's.  I think I kept it 2 months before selling it.  Maybe I will keep the Cameron a little longer.  We shall see.

I would definitely say I'm faithful to my putter. I'd like to experiment with others, but only if I had the money to purchase them without having to sell my Scotty. I'm not a Scotty loyalist or die-hard fan of any kind, but I struggled with the way my previous putter (an Odyssey White Hot Pro #9) looked at a address. Some days I'd sit it down behind the ball and it would like just right and I could make a good stroke. Other days it felt like I didn't have it aligned correctly or that I wasn't presenting the right amount of loft - always something. I'm not sure why I had this problem, but the Scotty Futura 6m fixed this issue for me and I haven't had any reason to stop putting with it.

I have had 2 putters in 22 years. First was cheap putter bought for under $20 at Fred Meyer cause my starter set did not have one. then in about 2000 I built a Snake Eyes Viper SSI and have had it in the bag since. I also have a Ping B60 that was given to me as well as a Ping Anser, never gamed either one.. both are in great shape, the B60 I had polished and paint filled bright green for my wife but she didn't want to switch.. Oh well...

Upgraded to a PING Vault 2.0 Anser last season. I don't see myself changing any time soon, it doesn't let me down when I put a good stroke on it! I have been looking at getting a Vault 2.0 ZB, just because I like the shape and I want to have one. not necessarily to replace my gamer. They're just so pretty!

I have about 7 putters, but I've exclusively used my Bettinardi C03 (left handed of course😁) for the 5+ years.  I sucked at putting with it so this year I've gone back to a Nike Oz putter I picked up a whole ago (stock image below) and my putting has gotten a lot better.  I really need to get a putter fitting done to figure out if it's my stroke or the equipment that's the issue.

I’ve only ever had one putter and it’s an original Ping PAL. That’s not to say that I haven’t thought about buying a mallet style before but the only other profile that has caught my attention is the Tommy Armor Impact #3.

I’ve played around with it a little bit at stores but it never seemed to look square to the ball for some reason. Really interested in other people’s perception of this and wondering if I’m the only one with this experience?

I was a rotation guy. Different look with each of my 3 putters. Center shafted Seemore FGP original, Blade style YES! Tracy, and a Guerin Rife two bar hybrid mallet. That changed literally a half hour ago, as I traded in all of them on second swing.

A couple of weeks ago I had a putter fitting and the fitter recommended what I needed. He even told me he knew the putter that would be perfect for me, but it was a few cycles old, and he thought it would be hard to find because " lefty crank hosel mallets are very rare"

Ha!!! He didn't know who he was talking to, LOL. It took me about an hour to go home, search, and find it. The Odyssey you see in my signature now. Not sure if it's new club magic, or this guy is a putting savant, but this thing is lights out so far.

I have a rotation of putters but certainly have 3 I pull from the quiver more often.

I have a TM Corza Ghost
Nike Method Mod 003
Bobby Grace M2

The Corsa gets about 80% of the play - just seem to find the line better with it.

For me a quick switch can really help me get tempo back for some reason.

Cheers

I think putters must be the most personal preference club in the bag. Once you find one that really works, its hard to change it. I have had only two, the first being an older style PING Anser 2 blade.  I still have it and occasionally bring it out.  I actually won the clubs putting competition with it, so it holds a special place.

The other, and currently in the bag, is an old Carbite Polar Balanced blade. I bought that for my son as his first putter and have kept it. It has a really nice weight to it.

So maybe that makes me a rotation player between the two!!

I try to be faithful.  You cant be sure what a putt will do if you are swapping out putters all the time.

I own three: my father’s original Anser from the 70’s, which I’ve tried, but don’t use it, an Edel that I was fitted to, but just never had good speed control with it, and my SeeMore, which has a secure spot in my bag.
I normally sell what I don’t use, but I’m not selling my Dad’s putter, and the Edel is stamped with my kids’ initials on the bottom, so not gonna sell it either.

I have had so many putters over the years - from the Wilson 8802/8813 to the Zebra 38 Special (Ray Floyd model). Many Scotty's, more Ping's than I could count. I started playing golf in 1991 and I was always searching for a game and honestly trading clubs was part of the fun for me. I moved through more sets of irons and drivers than I know. Without a doubt it was hurting my game so in early 2000's I went to Edwin Watts with intention of leaving with "The Putter." It was down to a Scotty Newport, an Odyssey 2-Ball blade and a Ping Anser of some sort with a blue insert. The Ping was the cheapest and that's what I used for the next many years until I purchased my Odyssey Tour Black 9. I was having trouble with left to right putts and the rounded lines helped me see my start line better. It turns out I have a strong arc and the heel shafted design fits my stroke best. My putting has massively improved since finding the right putter and sticking with it. I figured out that for me, it hurt my game trying to figure out a new club all the time. When I find something that works I keep it. This past year I bought almost a whole new bag because my body had changed after my back surgeries and I needed something that fit my "new" body. It took me all last year to get used to those clubs but the putter stayed the same. When the putt matters I like having something proven and familiar.

Faithful for my gamer for sure.

Ive gamed three putters since my first 'adult' sized set.

-Odyssey White Hot XG Rossie - my dad is using this now... still with the original grip 😂

-Odyssey White Ice Rossie

-Scotty Cameron Newport Select (Black Mist)

After my putter fitting this season where we dialed in the Newport versus some others its going to be in the bag for a lonnggg time. I do however like to putt with all sorts of putters at the store.  just to try different grips/styles/face tech as it comes out.

I just purchased an Evnroll ER5 to try and overthrow my trusty PING Anser 2 from 1999.  I’ve dabbled with several putters over the years to battle slumps but seemed to always return back to my old faithful.  The putter I had most luck with that wasn’t a mainstay was a DFX 2-ball that I used to pass my PAT.  Besides that, I am hoping the ER5 can keep me consistent enough for the time being.

I’d like to hear @Jmikecpa and his thoughts on this topic 🙂

Hi Ben's I had a go to putter when I was in my 20s ,it was a "A" blade from Ping cut to 33 ,I could put from anywhere and do magics I got rid of it 12 years ago ,and only found my gamer 2 weeks ago ,guest wath it is still from Ping it is a Scotsdale answer 2 from 2010,11 model. Today I am 59 just learned how to rollover my ball using this " strong arc " path Scotsdale with a uptight 35" inches getting much older ,after trying so many models ,from big brands like Cameron select ,Odyssey pro, Taylormade ghost etc....,and it is very difficult without being properly fit from our stroke path, Ping has a really good free fitting on their site call " Ping  flighweb " it really worked for me.

I have three putters...my current gamer Bettinardi studio #3,  Scotty Del-Mar, and an old Scotty Studio Select.  All three putters are different in looks, toe hang and feel.  When one putter stops "performing" for me, I will change it up to add a new look or feel.  I know it's not the putter but why not.  It usually takes me about a year or two to switch...if that makes it better.  haha

I have had my Scotty Hollywood model locked in for ~4 years now after extensive self-fitting, trial and error and general bad putting with a classic Ping Anser handed down by my dad. The flow neck, high toe and less than full offset on the Hollywood just suit me. I do wonder if a real fitting would confirm my self-fitting and my guess is one of the newer mallets with some toe hang might technically be an improvement for me from an MOI standpoint, but I have been putting well for a couple of years now and don't want to ruin a good thing!

*also have a Monterey 1.5 on standby after some buzzed ebay-ing one evening, but that hasn't made it to game action.

I only have 2 putters (15 year old Odyssey white hot 2 ball and Scotty Cameron NP 2 Select 2016).  I adore my scotty and already want to buy the next version when its released.  Best putter I have ever used and that comes after 14 years of using the amazing 2-Ball, which is pretty much Legendary.

I think im a Scotty Convert after buying this one.  I never wanted to buy or even try one cause of the huge price but for me, now they are totally worth it.  Love the weight (very heavy compared to the 2-ball), the feel,  everything about it makes my putting game so much better.   Probably saving 3 strokes per round with this putter over my old one.
