Titleist TS1 Coming In June

Golfspy_CG2

Recommended Posts

Pre Orders are now available for the TS1, the first driver Titleist has introduced for for moderate swing speeds.  It will be interesting to see if this moves any player who has said, "I'm not good enough to play Titleist" into trying it's drivers.

The TS1 driver is an ultra lightweight product to help moderate swing players generate more distance. We believe TS1 will attract an entirely new audience of golfers into our club line. These golfers have always wanted to play Titleist, but perhaps felt they weren't good enough. Now they'll experience a Titleist driver that really performs for them!

Nice to see them bring out something with more forgiveness and help than the ts2. I’m sure some will knock them as they do ping when a release comes out mid season or after the initial release of the line but this gives them something to get golfers interested in the brand mid release and as those of us in colder temps start getting into the swing of things another option to get dialed in at onset of the season

Seems like a bold move for Titleist to offer 4 different drivers at retail. I do think it's a good idea to give the average golfer and slower speed players a better option than TS2, but I'm curious to see how they adjust production numbers to prevent serious overstock of some models like we've seen in the past from other OEMs. Regardless of all that though, the message seems clear. Titleist is tired of Taylormade and Callaway grabbing so much attention for their clubs and balls.

Wow, for a company that stood by its traditional model maybe they found a space in the industry that they were lacking. Very much like a swing speed based driver offering. Lower or moderate in TS1, Average in TS2, Average to Higher in TS3, and Gorilla in TS4

You know two things came to mind immediatelyu when I saw that release this morning.

1) how they commented upon the first TS release that they made no bones about it, they had been losing the LM battle in big box stores to Callaway and others.

2) That now being a public company, they are probably under more pressure to perform in all categories than just balls, and have outside eyes on them for the first time.

Titleist has never had an issue with overstocking shops like TM did and somewhat still do and Callaway kind of does.

The first point is spot on. They still believe their drivers perform great and in many cases outperform the other brands when properly fit and they still push that but knowing the vast majority of golfers don’t get fit and go hit some balls and the club that gives them the longest number they buy they needed to fix that

This seems genius by Titleist. Most golfers at the superstore or galaxy aren't interested in trying out the XXIO or Wilson or Tour Edge, but if they can get the same lightweight benefits of those drivers and still have a Titleist in their bag they're gonna hop right on that. I'm impressed.

Spoke to a friend that is a Titleist fitter, and either June or July he will be going to golf courses to do fittings for Titleist staffers with new irons. Didn't tell me anything about them, just that they were coming.

Most likely it will be the Travelers in CT after the US Open, this is a tournament and timeframe that Titleist has used in the past for tour seeding, with retail release coming in September.   Although based on the hybrid and utility iron news of today, it's not impossible they move the time frame up a bit.

They introduced the drivers at the US Open last year and I wouldn’t be surprised if we don’t see the new irons and maybe the ts1 there although not sure the pga is the market audience for ts1

  • 2 weeks later...

Just spent about 30 minutes on the Trackman outside with a M6 12.0 loft Evevnflow Sr. Shaft.   Swing speed averaged right at 84.3.

So sounds like the TS1 will be right up my alley.   Looking forward to it coming in in a couple weeks.

On another note, the M6 was really good on some mishits. It actually surprised me, i had a couple very solid hell strikes and the ball never wavered off line right down the left center of the fairway, might have lost 5 to 10 yards of carry.    I had chalked TwistFace up to a gimmick.   But perhaps it's real.

Definitely Not.  It'll just be something nice to sit in the extra bag, and take out now and then.   Unless it magically gives me 20 more yards then, we might be talking.   But I know enough that at my SS the distance is pretty much maxed out.

So it's heeeeerrrre!!   The highly anticipated----well by me anyway  TS1 driver.  Touted for Slow swing speeds--85 mph range--Titleist's has gone all in with this awesome looking and feeling driver to deliver a bit more club head speed.

It has reduced the head weight to 275 grams from 300'ish range of the TS2.   Also the Fubuki 45g shaft and lighter grip by I believe 20 grams.

In my configuration I went even more--old slow swinger style--For the first time in my life, i ordered a Senior flex shaft.   I had hit a senior flex at the PING demo day a couple months ago and really liked the feel of the shaft "whipping" through impact.   But alas I already had my G410 plus in R in hand.

So what time better than when a driver that is touting being as light as possible, than to try the Sr. flex in it.

So vitals:

10.5 loft, almost went with 12, but figured it can be lofted up if I need to.

Fubuki 45g A (Sr) MV Series shaft  45.75"  which is equal to the G410+  BTW

The driver does not have moveable weights ala the G410, but does have some internal draw weighting, and a weight in the back center of the sole, to promote a higher flight.

I wrote some yesterday in the what did you buy thread, about my short initial testing on the SC200.   The upshot was I picked on the low side of 4 MPH in clubspeed and on a couple occasions over 7 and 8 mph.

Also to me one of the most impressive things, was the ball flight.  It was a very high flight that took very little effort to obtain.  I think this along with the extra MPH no doubt played a factor in the 8 to 10 yards more carry I was seeing over the G410 even with a bit less of a smash factor (according to the SC200) the couple that I did equal the 143 range of smash factor carried 15 or more yards.

Also the two other nice things I noticed.   The sound, while I don't have a problem with the G410 sound as some do, the TS1 has a distinctly Titleist crack to it.   While I'm sure it absolutely does not, but the sound makes it seems like it adds another 10 yards itself....HA    The other thing was what appeared to be a good 25 yards of roll out.   Now some of this can be attributed to the firm turf we have right now, due to any real significant rainfall the past week.

Well there will be more to come, especially with trackman numbers and real round updates.   But this could really be a very viable option for those slower swing speed players, who want to maybe get out of the mid 80's and into the low 90's at the least.

One final note, our superintendent stopped by....Initially to see who was on the side of the course that was supposed to be closed in anticiation of a shotgun start going out in about an hour.    When he saw it was me, and saw the LM and multiple clubs and sleeves of balls on the tee box, he just laughed and said....What now?

Well he is a very good driver of the ball, and has a rock solid 94-95 mph swing,.   His first two swings with it registered 98 mph and 239 yards of carry, compared to his usual 225 or so with his M6.   Even with the A flex shaft, he was able to control it and all four shots he hit, were dead straight with a nice high flight.   So that is said, to say this may not only be good for the mid 80's crowd, but even those in the 90's who want a few more MPH should give it a look as well maybe with an R or S shaft though.
