Sluggo42 6,033
Every video I watch about most every srixon iron seems to think they’re a bit weak on the spin numbers, usually at least 1000. Like for example, the 585 vs the 919 forged. the mizzys 7 iron was close to 7k, while the srixon was in the 5k zone. Anyone feel this to be an accurate thought? They go a little bit further, but don’t seem to stop as well, seems a common theme... even the blades were a bit weak on spin it seems. I’ve been day dreaming about some new irons of late, and am not worried about the loss of distance that a more traditional lofts will bring, but I miss the old spin numbers. One set I’m contemplating is the new hogan ptx-pro ‘s. They click a lot of boxes, and make that good spin, sort of the 100 per iron, like a 6 iron will turn 6000 revs, and so on... 1 Quote MavriK Sub Zero 9* on EvenFlow RipTide 6.0 50g Speedzone 3-wood on Tensi blue S F8 5/6 wood on Aldila NxT GEN MLT R Combo iron set -8,9,per Icon 5,6,7 PtxPro 4-UiHi on Recoil 780 ES f4 Stiff shafts (best clubs ever) Equalizer 50°, 54°, 60° wedges on Recoil 780 f4 ER3 34” ProV1x .Org 14 cart bag Adidas Tour 360 shoes
gaussman1 1,512
I haven't found them to be low spin at all, but I only have my own 785 set and have not done head to head vs other sets. I think they hold well though the wind but have not noticed any issue with stopping power whatsoever. I could see the 5 series being a little hotter than 919 forged, but I think the 7 is a more direct comp to that particular MizzySent from my Pixel 3 using MyGolfSpy mobile app Quote Rogue SZ 10.5 *NEW* Fujikura Pro Green 65 X Rogue 15 degree Evnflow Blue 6.5 Back in the Bag Z765 4-G Nippon Modus 120 Stiff 54 and 60 Amazing Grace Ass Kicker
juspoole 1,402
The 785's were actually one of the top performers for me at a club champion fitting in December of 2018 in terms of distance/accuracy/feel. I just had bought my Mizuno MP 18 SC's earlier in 2018, so I knew I wasn't going to switch, but was still curious if what I was playing was among the best. To your point - looking at the data I was about 1000 rpm lower on average with the Srixon's and I am a fairly steep hitter of the golf ball. Angle of attack on irons is around 8/9 degrees. jlukes 12,730
I have never had any problems with stopping power with my 765s. It's really important to look at the total package (angle of descent and spin) and not just spin. 1 Quote In my BR-D4 Stand Bag G410 LST 9* VA Nemesys 65X G410 LST 14.5* Tour AD DI 7X ZU85 18* Tour AD 95X 818 H2 20* Tour AD DI 85X MP20 HMB 4 Tour AD 95X JPX 919 Tour 5-9 Oban CT 115 X(-) Vokey SM7 46F - 54S - 59D ER2 Tour B X
jayjay0808 1,113
From my time with hitting the Srixon Irons the 5 series does spin a little less than the 7 and 9 series. However compared to other manufacturers in that gi iron they all tend to spin less than a players iron. jinxianjun 6
Currently playing 785s. Used to play 565/765 in the past as well as had 945/965s. Never felt that the spin was less by 1000. However I did notice that overall the 565s spun less than 765s. The 7xx line stayed true in terms of spin. Side note: Mizunos and Titleist blades spin like crazy for my swing. I saw some 7irons go above 7500 to 8000 range. Less spin means more manageable misses and in a game improvement iron you don't want them spinning left to right banana ball out of bounds - workable means more spin. Just makes sense to me a game improvement club spins less, goes straighter and misses less vs a muscle back blade which spins a ton, highly workable and if you're not a decent golfer will hook or slice a lot more with the right ball. Smellis745 519
I played 745s since shortly after their debut and recently switched to a set of 965s. I've never hit either set on a launch monitor, just had both built off of feel and the ball flight I want. I've never had issues with getting the ball to hold a green, even with long irons on par 5 approaches. Sluggo42 6,033
It’s funny that the guy I just bought my mizzy’s from complained that he spun the ball too much, so he bought a z-Forged/785 combo set so he would quit spinning the ball uncontrollably. So for some people, that lower spin is the cats meow.
