J.B. TexasEx
Do we have any spies currently gaming Sub 70 Golf's 699 or 639 CB iron models? If so, I'd like to get some feedback on their performance; playability, shot trajectory & shape, feel & forgiveness, etc. I haven't found enough on the internet about these clubs to have an informed opinion. Thanks in advance. JB Edited May 31, 2019 by J.B. For me the 639s are longer and just flat out perform. trajectory/shape will be dependent on your swing. As far as workability, I can shank, banana slice and snap hook them just as well as I can with any other club In all seriousness, at the price these clubs are offered at I would recommend that anyone interested in getting new irons at least order a demo club and give them a try. Will there be a formal MGS Testing review coming out soon? I would love to see that information!! When I spoke with Jason a couple weeks ago, he felt the 699's might fit my game the best. I was in the process of getting him some comparative info from PING about the AWT 2.0 shafts that worked best with the G410 irons I had been fitted for. My plan was to order a 699 5i and 7i for test but, with my fitter offering a rebate on my fitting session towards the order for the G410's and having played PING for 30+ years, the gravitational pull was simply too strong. If the G410's fail me I will definitely be revisiting Sub70 options. I am just one of the testers so I don't know the actual release schedule. The 699s were in the players distance category and I am pretty sure that testing is wrapped up; I would expect results on that category to hit the MGS site soon. I still have 3 more sessions in the players irons category so those results should still be a few weeks out as they try and get all the testers through the testing. fixyurdivot, MattF and GolfSub70 2 1 Quote Driver: G400 Max 9* w/ KBS Tour Driven Fairway: TS3 15* w/Project X Hzardous Smoke Hybrids: 915H 21* w/KBS Tour Graphite Hybrid Prototype 915H 24* w/KBS Tour Graphite Hybrid Prototype Irons: TR20V 6-11 w/Vizard TR20-85 Graphite Wedge: 54/12D, 60/8M w/:Accra iWedge 90 Graphite Putter: Sacks Parente MC 3 Stripe Backup Putters: Milled Collection RSX 2, mFGP2, Futura 5W, TM-180 Member: MGS Hitsquad since 2017
revkev
@J.B.Texasex. My buddy purchased the 639’s about a month ago. They are a sweet looking club. His specs are very different from mine. I’ve hit them a few times. Beautiful look if you like a smaller head, nice soft feel, wonderful trajectory, surprising distance. I don’t know how forgiving they are as I’ve flushed them every time that I’ve hit them. They fly as far as my G30’s, even though the shaft is too heavy and stiff for me. Thin2win
I asked when the 639CB, 639MB and the 699 were going to be up on their Demo Club section, and was told that all would be up this month, the 639CB and 699 this week and the 639'MBs probably in two weeks. $120 to demo a club for a month, send it back and they refund the $100, you basically pay for shipping. I'll be getting a demo mid and long iron of each once all three are up and try them out. Ill be sure to let you know what I find. Side note, Jason over there, very friendly and quick to respond to questions. edingc
I'm currently demoing the 639 CB 6 and 9 irons with the KBS Tour stiff shafts. They are gorgeous. I'll be honest and say the 6 iron is probably a little too much for my game. I loved the 9 iron. Managed a good mid-high trajectory, turf interaction was great and, despite it being 1/2" shorter and weaker lofted than my C300 9 iron, I didn't lose much if any distance on even so-so strikes. I was carrying it in the 142-146 range according to my Swing Caddie. The top line is thicker than what the images on the Sub 70 site make it appear. Not large, but it does not look/feel blade-y at all to me. Compared to the C300s, you definitely know where you hit the face. Let's just say I don't hit the sweet spot often. I would say iron play is the weakest part of my game, so I'm not surprised. I will say I was able to hit the 9 iron dead straight. Point and shoot. I can't say that about my C300s. I'm not sure if it's because the clubs are shorter or the shaft heavier. Maybe a little bit of both? I could see playing some sort of blended set with the 699s. Because the lofts are pretty close, I think it could be done. I'm going to spend a little more time at the range just to rule out these as a possibility for me. I loved the additional feedback on mishits, but if I'd continue to hit the 6 iron like I did today I would struggle. (Full disclosure is that I'm 85 percent sure I want to build/buy a set of Maltby PTMs. I am planning to go get fit in a few weeks and hope to try a bunch of different shafts that would possibly suit my game. Shaft choice the only thing stopping me from ordering a PTM 7 iron to test at the moment.) J.B. Bossfan
If you go to the “ Shiney Metal “ forum on this site there is a Sub 70 thread their also and someone asked about making a blended set and someone from Sub 70 answered it was something he thought it was something they could do. I play their 739 irons and that 6 iron is really easy to hit. Not sure how those would blend with what you’re looking at but the 739s are another really nice set of irons they put out.
