I'll check in later once the whole flight has reported scores. I expect to lose a little ground on the guys in front of me but may end up in a similar position overall. Here's the link for standings if you're dying to know now:

Shows 88 and not an 89 for round 2,  Are you going to be DQ'd for signing an incorrect scorecard?  🙂

🤔 well that's actually good news. We agreed on the hole-by-hole scores so we must be bad at overall math. The overall scores are left to the computer in this tourney so I should be ok in the rule book.  When I did the Arccos recap, I was having trouble finding the one shot that was off trying to make it say 89 so that makes sense.  ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Tomorrow I'm going hybrid on 4, back to driver on 9, and 3w on 16. I had 225 across the pond so hybrid really isn't the play there. TBD on 7. As of now, driver again.

So that hybrid on 4 went into the same trees but came out the other side in safety. A fantastic hybrid from 230 and I made it on the green but unfortunately 3 putted since my first was from 78ft.

I went with hybrid on 7 and hit a wonderfully straight, high shot that rolled through the fairway and into a punch out situation.  played zig zag from there for a double. Can't win for losing. I might try driver again tomorrow.

The 3W on 16 paid off. Will do it again tomorrow unless the wind is coming from behind.

Other than those, I stuck to the plan and kept the ball in play taking zero drops. Had a few strokes of bad luck too. 1) On 1 when a perfect approach hit a branch and shot across the fairway and 2) on 6 my approach struck the flagstick on the fly and ricocheted off the green.

Scores are in and tee times for tomorrow are set. I managed to actually move up to third in my flight and will (sort of) be playing in the final group. Currently sitting 5 shots off the lead. I'm not really sure what's going on but I'm playing with the 2nd and 4th guys in my flight (threesome) where the leader is playing with #5 and #12 (another threesome). It's supposed to be grouped according to standings so consider me thoroughly confused.

No matter. Teeing off the back at 840a. It'll be a familiar feel to today so let's make it a good one. I can fulfill both of my prime goals by breaking 85 tomorrow and that would give me a good chance in the flight.

 • Sub Goal #1: Keep the ball in play again
 • Sub Goal #2: No skulls on chips
 • Sub Goal #3: Choose the right club

Have you considered a 4 iron for #7? Make it a 3 shot Par 5?

I have but I'm not sure I can trust it. I keep losing the 4i way right which will be much much worse on #7 than running through the fairway. I'll see what I can work out on the range. That'll be late in my round so I'm sure it'll be an important hole for my final standings. Driver is really the right play if I can hit it high.

Warm up session is complete, about to check in. There's a certain amount of tension in the air. No more buddy groups, not as many people out. The only real chatter is being conducted by the birds. All business. Go time.
I took my time and hit it pretty good on the range. Moving the ball slightly forward in my stand had good effects. Let's see if it comes to the course.

You got this Grasshopper!!
Enjoy it, have fun, good luck!

So here's the short of it. I'll try to check in later with more detail.
I shot 86 that could've easily been 80. Doesn't matter what shots were left out there because that's always the case. Ended up tied for first and they sent us out for a playoff hole.
I had a 20 footer for par that lipped out
He made a 7 footer for par to win
Second place is still really good and actually pays out. He earned it and he's a good dude so I'm happy for his win.

Congratulations!! 2nd place with a playoff hole nothing wrong with that.
Great job.

Thanks to you guys for all the support.  These discussions here definitely helped me once it came game time.  The experience was fantastic and I hope I get to come back next year.  As a wrap up, I'm unleashing the power of Arccos with the 3-round plot of each hole.  The chronology is a little tricky but the "current view" with white trace lines is my round 3, then round 1 on the 28th followed by round 2 on the 29th.  Reminder, we started on 10 for rounds 2 and 3.

Slide1.JPG.dd5a91bed82c2d0f1fe648c9d8ecb3fc.JPG
As a former blow-up hole, it was good to survive this one this week.  The round on June 30 was our playoff hole.  I had a great look at the green from an annihilated drive but unfortunately pulled the approach so it was just off the green.  Was unable to get up and down for par but I'm glad it was at least competitive.
Slide2.JPG.02d0cc770e682bfe5f76e596d8f15ef7.JPG

#2 was my favorite hole this week.
Slide3.JPG.4c1bb4c3a87efb3e59d53383b7da3776.JPG

Missed an opportunity here in all 3 rounds.  From the fairway, it's easy to get on in two.
Slide4.JPG.95667a86453f48e3776f02fc5415959f.JPG

#4 just doesn't fit my ball shape and I struggled to make it through.

Slide5.JPG.057f726634eb9aec140618147f5a5aad.JPG
The shots on rounds 1 and 2 were quite pathetic but my round 3 shot went right over the flagstick with beautiful flight.  Much easier to make par from the green
Slide6.JPG.457de155f9ffda6f01d7eaa5638341f5.JPG

Hole 6 gave me absolute fits this week even though I got off the tee just fine.  If I had to pick one spot where I could've won the flight in regulation, it was here.  Not only did I miss the green wide right from position A, I had 3 chips in everyone's favorite Bermuda rough just to get on the green (one of which was a double hit).  Can't take it back, but that's one I'd LOVE to have back.
Slide7.JPG.9dc0f9af879e615a9137e171be4e81de.JPG

Never did figure out #7.  I should've listened to downlowkey's advice and Shankster's reminder to just hit 4 iron off the tee.  Do'h!

Slide8.JPG.7b71a06a97e4f4d78205238aed0d23c2.JPG
The nerves just got the best of me on #8 all weekend.  All 3 swings were tentative because I built this hole to be something greater than it is.....a bogey hole and move on.
Slide9.JPG.2567e6f4c4877fb9b2c25c166488bcc2.JPG
See that 7i punch through the woods?  That was from the driving range.  No one stopped hitting even though I was waving at them.  It was like a gosh darn firing range as range balls landed all around me prepping my shot.  It came out beautifully executed under the trees, knocking into the hill and rolling across the green.  The gent I ultimately tied with dropped a BOMB of a birdie putt from some 25feet and I put in a nice 5 footer for bogey to lock us up.  I don't think either of us realized how important those putts were.
Slide10.JPG.1c3cf2773c6c7009fb6aff65e377abcd.JPG
No fun was had on Hole 10 any of the 3 days.

Slide11.JPG.3a1ec567b05828ced3bc514bc0f7ef95.JPG
My shot for #11 in round 3 was the best shot I hit all weekend.  The pin was tucked way way back there.  I aimed at the flag thinking my wipey fade would put me in the center of the green.  Well, it was launched sky high with a tiny fade and never left the flag stick landing a yard past and rolled a few more.  That was probably the best shot I've ever hit on this hole.

Slide12.JPG.7f671dcf49a17db96ecd4b93e2aa2eb9.JPG
Much like hole #2, I had a lot of fun on #12.  Many folks had a tough time on this hole since it was usually into the breeze but I enjoyed some good tee shots from that G410.
Slide13.JPG.bee36954ac66466f69cd664f3de47e9b.JPG
I hit that same dang tree TWICE on #13.  This is a really long hole if you're not off the tee in good shape.  That bomb to the corner from round 2 was the new Arccos PB of 331.  If the lie weren't on sandy dusty scraggly dirt, I would've been totally OK with it.  But it wasn't and that's the chance you take when you miss the fairway.
Slide14.JPG.a3ec3015db8f010611bb796ea228e063.JPG
Straight up survival mode for #14.  It shouldn't be this difficult at all, but I just couldn't find the fairway.
Slide15.JPG.db2dbddf88fd958042075195ee815d51.JPG
15 was a mixed bag.  3 decent shots with good contact but only one found the green.  That one ended up as a birdie from 25+ feet away....definitely not one you can count on but it feels good no less.
Slide16.JPG.864ae11b4d922f1284cf225a52518cdf.JPG
Most of my mental prep went into #16 and it paid off.  All in all, I played it quite well and it's definitely a hole where your round can go sideways in a hurry.

Slide17.JPG.bdf9e8c2ce78918665d3e6f8383b8a0a.JPG
#17 was the source of quite a bit of worry heading into the tournament.  Luckily, I survived it this week.
Slide18.JPG.c365af35b289d20d1221c046f87042cc.JPG

2 monster tee shots on 18 that just ran through the fairway and one that missed the mark completely.  as if being out of position off the tee wasn't enough, I really struggled around the green here as well.  Extra bummer to have this issue as the scorers tent, grill, and beer were all set up at the top of the hill overlooking the green.  No one likes to watch a meltdown and I did it three times.

And that's how it went down.  I'm sure you're feeling whelmed at this point   Aside from the shots, one big mistake I made was wearing new shoes for the first round.  They gave me a nice blister that I had to nurse the whole weekend.  Couple that with a deep papercut I got getting them out of the box, and I've got 2 injuries from one pair of shoes.

....Until next year?

I think you can take a lot of this years experience. You’ll be ready next year
