I think it's going to be difficult to have none. I was checking out the preview caddie on Arccos and it had me hitting driver, 3W, and PW on the par 5 8th hole. Usually the second shot is above my feet and every time I try the 3W, I hit a horrible shot. I really hope all of you can make it through your remaining rounds without a penalty.

The hole I nearly eagled is normally driver, 8 iron, 52* because of the lake to the left and OB to the right so taking two three woods felt strange. I'm pretty sure I can get through with no penalties as long as I can keep out of the trees 😁

Puma Ignite NXT Solelace first impressions review:

First off thank you Puma and MGS for hooking me up with some new kicks!  I finally got a chance to take them out for what they are made for...golf!16B4F5B3-3FAC-4521-B187-FA638FD89167.thumb.png.bab8800f14c286ed6298d53576bd51d6.png

The new rubber nub pattern on the bottom of the shoes did indeed provide lock down grip anywhere from the tee box to the sand trap.   In the past I have had traction problems with previous spikeless designs from Puma and Nike, and spiked designs from Adidas, but this new traction pattern is among the best I have used and kept my feet locked down like Velcro.

Compared to the 3 year old design of my previous Puma spikeless shoe the new shoes is improved in every way possible.  The new ignite foam is more responsive as well as pillowy soft and needs zero break in time.  They are ready to go straight from the box.

833C96DF-4218-4586-99B2-83E7200A2237.thumb.png.365272122eb6cc916fb5168c7ce63d7e.png

I was admittedly skeptical about the new “solelace” method for the lacing system.  In fact I wouldn’t have bought them versus a regular “system”.  However, after one round of wearing them, I am sold. I compared these to the regular lacing system at Dick’s, and these to me provided a more locked down and supportive shoe. In fact, this is the most supportive and secured I’ve felt in a spikeless shoe.  I would now choose these over regular laces.

One of my biggest tests for a shoe here in the south is how hot do they get on a mid summer day?  Waterproof shoes tend to be unbreathable furnaces for your little piggies in the summer.  I am pleased to report Puma has managed to make a breathable waterproof shoe. My feet thank you.

Is there anything wrong with the shoe?

Yes.  They are cut very generously, so you’ll need to check out at least half of a size smaller than normal.  The neoprene portion of the shoe causes a very snug but comfortable fit. Larger feet and higher arches may not find the fit to suitable to their needs.

With that said, these may be the best golf shoes I have ever worn.  The style fits both on and off the course.  I’m glad it does, because for the first time ever, I didn’t want to take them off after I got back to the car.

TL/DR

+Comfortable out of the box, supportive yet soft, exceptional spikeless traction/stability, breathe well, minimal foot fatigue

-size runs large, may not fit wide feet in reg sizes

Excellent write up @JohnSmalls 😍👏👏👊🍺

Apparently Arccos doesn’t think courses have trees. This is at my course hole #4. Arccos said hit driver, the arrow indicates the line I would need, and the one Arccos recommended. So not to take a penalty I hit driver, trying to hook it with all I had, I didn’t work. I ended up taking an actual 1 stroke penalty when it flew in the hazard dead straight ahead. Come on Arccos, there’s a reason I’ve played that hole 35 times and used a hybrid every time.

Does Arccos not offer alternate strategies for this hole? Usually there's something in the bottom right that let's you choose another route.

You didn't want to open up your Driver and try to hit a flop shot with it?  Phil would have done it.

Orrr both options give you the same line with different clubs. Like this one:

MVIMG_20190724_184132.thumb.jpg.da97595c2e82ebf7fff5aa9b769a9091.jpgScreenshot_20190724-184127.thumb.png.828a500fa8d5c509128e1217596c3b39.png

Note that the other option is a 6i with the exact same path through the trees...

This has been a really fun topic to follow. Good job by all the competitors and other contributors to the thread.

I'm taking my shot at the Week 8 challenge. Here's my logic

  1. 5 competitors all making an equipment change through the whole bag via custom fitting which SHOULD net better results.
  2. The competition was 8 weeks long, and with the prescribed challenges was not exclusively straight-up 18 hole golf.
  3. 8 weeks is not a long period of time with respect to making a significant change in handicap                                                                 -- The lower handicap players are at a bit of a disadvantage here because it's harder to shoot scores low enough to move the 20 score average
  4. The adjustment for new equipment could go either way, but given the time period it is not likely anyone's number moved very far.
  5. Starting handicaps were a mix of mids, with one each high and single digit.

Solution/Guess: Giving the high handicapper @bardle some benefit of the doubt for moving the overall number a bit further than the others, and Cobra some credit for most of the numbers moving down I'm going with a total aggregate handicap change of.......

Minus 1.5 (lower than starting)

You know, you guys that are guessing...This doesn't have to be a complete guess. We've been posting rounds, screenies with scores on them, etc.. a little due diligence may well go a long way on this one. I mean I'm pretty sure we all shot net under par with only 4 clubs...

I'm not trying to help or anything but the prize for this week is pretty significant and the effort it takes to make a decently educated guess is not very high based on the posts in this thread...

I was just making a point. over the past 8 weeks we have all posted a good bit about our play / scores / etc... Even taking 1 week of scores out, there is still an individual trend for each of us that can be deduced within this thread. I'm not saying someone is going to get it exactly right to the decimal place, I just mean that a more educated guess could be made based on the history of this thread than some of the guesses I have seen. No big deal.

I'm thinking 4.6 overall improvement because of rise of Mars in relation to Venus divided by the number of lefties...that's my answer and I'm sticking with it 😁😂😅

Whatever happened to @GB13?  After the extremely hot start he got in this thread I thought for sure he would end up with about 1,000 more posts than anyone else here.  Should we send out a search party?

He is home schooled so I guess since he is off for the summer he no longer has the CCC#3 as part of his curriculum.  I'll talk to his mom and see if we can get him back.

I’m going with a net improvement of 11.5 for the group.

It’s been a lot of fun following your progress the past couple months.

You have all done a great job - thanks!

He also could have been a normal kid and done something to get grounded. I miss @GB13's banter.

When you talk to his mom @Wedgie, can you figure out when his penalties are over?

You know, you guys that are guessing...This doesn't have to be a complete guess. We've been posting rounds, screenies with scores on them, etc.. a little due diligence may well go a long way on this one. I mean I'm pretty sure we all shot net under par with only 4 clubs...

I'm not trying to help or anything but the prize for this week is pretty significant and the effort it takes to make a decently educated guess is not very high based on the posts in this thread...

I'll say that there were solid facts behind some of my numbers for each person when I posted my amount 🙂
