Last thing I swear. I also hit my longest drive to date with the F9 today. I just noticed as I was scrolling through the stats. 279 right down the pipe.

Well, if one properly uses a barometer in conjunction with a wind sock to triangulate the exact time and location of a sudden jet stream, longer than average drives can be possible at a rate of 1 extra long drive per 5 OOB driver tee shots.

Been silent for a few days, but tomorrow I’m taking off work at dinner to get 18 in before my tournament this weekend. I’ll see if someone will video my swing so I can post that with my iron review. GIR is not my specialty so I’m glad it’s tournament time, maybe that’ll make me focus more. I’ll also take pics of the leaderboard Saturday and Sunday so you all see where I place.

Guys, I've noticed the Driver flights quite low (for me) even though it's a 10.5* head. It's a real penetrating flight but wondered if anyone is seeing similar.

My ball flight is lower with the F9 driver, yes. I did switch to a 9º head and a shaft that helps produce a lower ball flight.

My previous drivers produced a very high, almost ballooning ball flight, so I really enjoy the way the ball penetrates through the air rather, than floating.

Thanks Guys. I had a 9.5* Titleist that was a medium flight, so switching to a 10.5* I expected a higher flight but it's the same if not a tad lower. I'll just improve my launch with it as it's hopefully spinning less than the old 910 D3.

Is your distance the same? I typically get more distance from a lower launch but that could just be me. my course is also pretty firm so rollout is in play more from a lower trajectory too.

To answer your original question. I get a lower flight when the weight is front. When its in the back I launch it pretty high for me, but it doesn't go nearly as far. Where do you have the weight set at and have you tried tinkering with it at all?

He’d only know if his distance was the same if he knew the wind speed at altitude, and the current density of the O-Zone layer.

So I have questions for the competitors and perhaps @GolfSpy STUDque - We have participants all over the world at different altitudes with different weather patterns and soil conditions. Are these factors being taken into consideration for the challenge to make the comparisons fair? If not, they should be. In particular:

1) How are you guys accounting for altitude? Show your work.

2) Temperature and humidity? It's winter in New Zealand and, I assume, approaching ungodly hot in the Southeast. It's also well known that oblate spheroids (there no such thing as a truly perfect sphere) fly further in humid air as water molecules displace nitrogen and oxygen, making the air less dense and providing a smaller drag force. To get you started, assume the drag force is proportional to the square of the velocity by a constant related to the cross-sectional area of the spheroid. For simplicity, assume the COR of the ball changes linearly with temperature, although this is not true. Show your work. For extra credit, combine this solution with 1).

3) How is the COR of each ball interacting with the ground being considered? I'm sure there is a difference in the bounce and roll of the balls on red Georgia clay versus more sandy soil. Given it is also likely there are differences in agronomy (tightly mowed fairways versus relatively shaggy with different types of grass), please account for the resistance of the grass blades (length and type) in your roll calculations. Again, show your work. To make it easier, assume the ball is incompressible compared to the impact object (not true for cart path or tree, of course) and that the moisture content of the soil is constant.

I look forward to your responses - you have 90 minutes from the time you read this to complete.

I tried the weight in the front and was all over the place (prob my swing that day), weight in the back is where its at now, I dont know if any longer, I really hope it is with lower spin. During my fitting the length was about 20yds further carry than my Titleist 910 D3. But I've only had one round of golf with it so far. A couple of rounds planned for the weekend so will get a better idea then.

If you keep getting a ball flight that is not your ideal, I believe they offer other weight options that you can buy. It may take a little tinkering (YAY) but with the customization you should be able to get it where you want.

Yeah @THEZIPR23 is right, there are multiple weight options on the website.

Keep at it, you will find the solution for you. My accuracy has increased since moving the weight forward and I compensate for the lower launch by slightly increasing my shoulder tilt to hit more up on the ball.

Only played 9 today. Everyone must have been getting their practice round in. It took forever to play 9, if that’s any indication of how the tournament is going to be, it’ll suck real bad. Played terrible, hit only 1-7 fairways, and 5-9 GIR. GIR was not bad considering driving was off, but proximity to hole wasn’t good, if hole was in front I was in back. Gonna try to play one more practice round tomorrow. And they have mowed greens short and rolled them, rolling crazy fast right now, said they wasn’t gonna water them any more until the tournament is over.

I’m volunteering at the Rocket Mortgage Classic this weekend and saw the F9 driver in the bag of Jonas Blixt. He is a smart guy IMO.

And@MaxEntropy you can expect my reply to come to you by Pony Express. Wait patiently.

Planned to play 27 holes tonight but only got 18 in.  Hit two shots on my 19th hole (a GIR) when the temperature dropped at least 10 degrees and a thunderstorm moved in.  Huddled in a shelter for about 30 minutes and then headed back to the clubhouse before the 2nd wave of storms hit.

The first 18 holes today went great.  Ended up with 4 birdies and a 75 overall.  If I could have eliminated one water ball off the tee and three 3 putts it would have been my best round ever.Capture.JPG.41b22147838e7508f8b3ba99696274c7.JPG

Highlights of the day include a one hop hole-out from the bunker on a par 3 and my longest recorded drive (307 yards) before a GIR and a made birdie putt.  I'll try to post my 100 word review of the irons sometime on Friday but so far the results are speaking louder than any words I could write.  Except for one club; that club is dead to me.

Thought I would share this. It looks like a pretty standard par but the fourth shot was half submerged in the lake. Managed to not only get out of the lake but also clear a bunker, hit the green and hole the putt after 😁😎

Time for a little mini-iron review from the one and only one length competitor.

OLback.jpg.602f6716366c4102d4dc8e12dc90838d.jpg

All in all, I like the one lengths. I'm getting more and more used to them and I'm finding that my consistency is definitely improving. The core tenants of the F9 model definitely work, these things are long and super forgiving. Almost all of my shots are straight now. I suddenly struggle with a bit of an overdraw and alignment issues that cause pulls but usually if I hit the ball solid I can guarantee I am close to or on the green.

Being one length I want to break this mini review into two parts. Scoring irons and distance irons because I think its fundamentally important based on my experience so far to separate the two.

Scoring Irons

These things are incredible. They are dead on accurate and the distance just works. I don't have to worry about ball position anymore which historically for me caused ALOT of fat / heavy / chunky shots with my scoring irons. the 7-PW are my FAVORITE clubs in the bag right now. I posted before that the PW in particular messed with my brain. Yeah, I'm over that. I love it. Its probably my best club right now in terms of accuracy. I don't see any reason why every golfer shouldn't at least have a mixed set with these one length scoring irons in the bag.

9iron.jpg.27586504c31f85a6e8e784fd840b694e.jpg

9 iron at address ^^

"Long" Irons

So the 4-6 I have mixed feelings about. Despite them being the same length they don't work the same as the scoring irons. The yardages are weird and I have a bad tendency to hit these thin much more than the other irons. I'm 54 holes in now with some untracked scrambles, etc.. with these clubs and I'm just not sure what to do about them. As an example here are my ranges with these:

1885177177_ScreenShot2019-06-28at8_33_57AM.thumb.png.cad9583d1b116dea1ca0644f526a018c.png

None of those are the correct distances I would expect from my 4-6 irons. the 6 is the closest. I expect around 190-205 with the 4 iron. My longest shot with it to this point is 191. As of right now I'm losing about 10 yards a club in the long irons over my old ones on average and I have no idea why.

Overall

Overall I love them. I think they look good at address. the 4-6 are pretty chunky but that doesn't bother me too much. The forgiveness and accuracy are definitely much improved over my old clubs even with the distance loss in the long irons. At the end of the day I'm not likely to hit the green with a 5 or 4 iron and these still get me close without putting me in the woods or out of play (most of the time). Having the 3 hybrid makes the 4 iron issue trivial but I still don't like the idea of having ANY club in my bag that I'm not comfortable pulling out.

Arccos doesn't do a great job of accounting for the variety of shots that you use a club for.

This is one of my complaints about Arccos, overall it is a great system but there are definite improvements that should be made. For example I hit a drive the other day that was long but was in jail. Had to hit a punch 5 iron under trees from 112 yards. Arccos gave me strokes gained for drive and strokes lost for the approach. Makes my driving stats look better but doesn't reflect what truly occurred.

Can the super game improvement aspect of the F9 Speedback irons really help improve my approach stats?

That was one of the main questions posed during my intro to the Cobra Connect challenge a few weeks ago.  After 103 Arccos tracked shots with my 5 iron through PW I think I now have a pretty good idea.

As a reminder I came into this contest gaming a set of Titleist 714 AP2 irons.  While they aren't true blades they definitely had a thinner profile and not a lot of visible help.  The Cobra F9's are very thick and have a noticeable cavity back that sticks out on most of the irons.  It was definitely not love at first sight.

While the overall size of the irons no longer bothers me I do still have some issues with controlling the ball flight and hitting GIRs.  These fly very high and very far.  If you take out the 5 iron (which I don't hit very much) I'm seeing an average Arccos smart distance gain of 8 yards in each club!

The extra distance is definitely appreciated but it may be at the expense of accuracy.  My GIR % is down with every club except the 6 iron.  AP2's on the left, Cobra F9's on the right.

When I was beginning to write this 100 498 word review I thought for sure I would say amazing things about how I've posted six straight rounds in the 70's thanks solely to the F9 irons.  Now that I look over the stats I realize it's mostly the other clubs in my bag that have had the greatest impact on my scores.  Score one for Arccos.

Enough jibber-jabber.  Let's get to a few club pictures.

My favorite iron is probably the PW.  I feel extremely confident any time I have this club in my hand from 120-140 yards out.  It's just plain fun to hit.

The 8 iron is a bit of a mystery to me.  Some rounds it is absolutely fantastic.  Others it seems to have an attitude and not want to be hit from anywhere but the most perfect lie.  It definitely plays by its own rules.

And then we get to the 5 iron.  This is the one Cobra club that I've yet to hit well.  Even off the tee I seem to find a way to mess things up with it.  It was the 5 iron that led to my greatest Par After Terrible Tee Shot (P.A.T.T.S.) of the year.

Thankfully the 4 hybrid was around to bail me out on that hole.  With all those terrible shots in mind I banished the 5 iron to the garden tool bin for picture time.  One day I will figure you out!

I'm hoping to play at least 9 more holes this weekend and will post my final GIR% for the week in a new post later on.  Hopefully the wedges boost my GIR stats enough to be competitive with the others.

Those are some fantastic looking kicks@perseveringgolfer, congratulations again on your win!

I got a package in the mail today from answering the trivia question.

I opened the box to find another box, it's almost like one of those prank gifts at Christmas. Box in a box in a box in a box, etc...

I'll do a write-up on them once I can get them to the course. I will say the Solelace system takes some getting used to, as it's confusing. Also, these shoes are super comfortable, once I got them on. I'll go into further detail in my review, as I have unique feet that I'll also get into later.

Sorry for all the teases, but I want to get some time on the course before talking about them. Thank you to Puma Golf and MyGolfSpy for these amazing prizes!
