THEZIPR23
I don’t know if this qualifies or not but I’m going to throw it up here anyway. 3rd hole is a par 5 dog leg left. 200 straight is as far as you can hit it. You can, sometimes, hit it over trees on left at about 240 and give it a go in 2. Well I tried today and didn’t quite make it. Hits tree and takes big bounce back and left. Have about 240 back to fairway over more 6th tee box, 5th green and more trees. After waiting for everyone to clear off those spots I hit 5w and hit it well but not good enough. Hits top of tree and drops straight down. Now have 165 and have to hit low drawing 7 iron. Hit it perfect, best shot all day. Drain 30 footer for birdie. The artistic red line I drew is how the hole is supposed to be played. sirchunksalot, revkev, Mmdanz and 3 others 6 Quote Stealth 2+ 9 (Diamana PD 60 S 45") Stealth 2+ 15 (Diamana PD 70 S 43") G425 19 (Raijin 2.0 85x) G425 22 (Raijin 2.0 85x) ZX7 5-9 (KBS C Taper S) Vokey SM9 45 10 F (KBS 610) Vokey SM9 49 08 F (KBS 610) Vokey SM9 55 08 M (KBS 610) Vokey SM9 59 04 T (KBS 610) Spider GT Splitback 34" ProV1 #23 Twitter @THEZIPR23 "One thing Golf has taught me, is that my muscles have no memory." GregB135
This past Saturday in league play. 18th at the Innisbrook Resort's Copperhead course. http://www.innisbrookgolfresort.com/pdf/innisbrook-copperhead-yardage-card.pdf The final hole of Copperhead's 'Snake Pit' finishing run. Tee shot was pushed to the right and dropped into the first of the right side fairway bunkers (not a terribly struck shot, but a terrible result). That left me with 150 to the green, good lie in the bunker, with the bank/lip of the bunker about 2 feet above the ball but with probably enough to play to the green with 7 iron. Hit slightly behind the ball on the bunker shot, so did not make the green but advanced the ball about 60 yards into the right side rough. Next shot was a 'hat tipper' of a 3/4 wedge that never left the line to the flag and stopped about 1-1/2 behind the hole. Tapped in for my par of the day and a P.A.T.T.S. to remember I also made par from the trees left of number 6, but that was an unobstructed iron shot and a GIR. Here's a mental game insight I'll share because of the theme of this thread. After both of those tee shots (and after many other bad/poor/terrible tee shots) since they were still in play without a penalty involved I said "I've still got par from there", or I'll say to my partners "I can make par from there". Sometimes it gets a laugh. But, it is a good way for me to advance my mindset past the immediate frustration of the bad shot and maintain some confidence that I have enough competence with recovery shots (punch shots/bunker shots etc) to advance the ball to a position to get to the green and make a putt for par. cksurfdude, MattF, THEZIPR23 and 4 others 7 Quote Driver: 311XF Gen5, Tensei CK Pro Orange, S flex Fariway: 311XF Gen6 3-Wood, Tensei Blue 55g R flex Hybrid: 211, 3H Project X Evenflow H, 80g, 5.5 TSR2 4H, Tensei Blue R (Forum Tester) Irons: T200 2023, Tensei Blue R (Forum Tester), 5-GW Wedges: CBX2 Zipcore 52*, 56* Project X Catalyst Spinner Graphite Shaft Putter: ER2 Murdered Out
palvord
I had two this weekend on back to back holes: This one, I cold topped the 3w, and then relied on my 5i to get me back into play. A crazy good sand shot and 1 putt saved a par on this long par 5. The very next hole: I smashed the 3w, but so far offline to the left. I was against a rock wall needing to hit up a hill. I punched the 7i into the side of the hill, and was able to get it to roll to the top and rest. Another good pitch shot and 1 putt saved par. The more I really look at the game, the more I have learned that the short game is how you can save strokes. The ability to get up and down from any situation is possibly the best way to lower your score. I need to find a better practice facility to really work at honing this skill. edingc
Two entries into this thread courtesy of tonight's round. First up is hole No. 5, a straightaway par 4. Pulled my tee shot left into a tee, dropping it straight down in the rough a whopping 127 yards from where it started. Hit a thin 5 iron to front right of green, chipped and buried a 15 foot breaker for par. I'm most proud of my effort on No. 9, a short par 5 that doglegs left. Determined not to leave the ball right, I ended up hooking it WAAAAY left and long deep in the trees separating No. 9 and No. 10. Ended up punching a 4 iron, smacked a tree trunk and sent my second shot onto No. 10 fairway. Hit another 4 iron through the leaves and left me a few yards short of the green. Chipped to within three feet and tapped in the par putt! Talk about grinding! MaxEntropy
Here's an entry from yesterday.... I pulled my tee shot and had all sorts of tree trouble. I punched out with a 3W to keep the ball below the trees (it ended up on a much more aggressive line than I intended, but it worked). I hit a little gap wedge and sank the 25 footer for par. GolfSpy MPR
I've got an APATTS story (almost par after a terrible tee shot). Playing with Kirke and @Erik-M a couple of days ago. Hole 12 at our course is a very short par 4 (about 280ish, but can vary almost 40 yards depending on the tee placement). The always present danger is the thick wood on the right. But the further back the tees go, the more the drive is out of a chute of trees, which adds pressure to the tee ball. So I step up to the tee with a really nice round going (I was 2 over through 11). I precede to pull my hybrid hard. Here's a picture: See the chute? And do you see that little loop of cart path on the left of chute? Yeah, so my ball crashes into the left woods, pops up, and settles ultimately near the woods on the side of the cart path nearer the tees. After giving it some thought, my best play was going to be to re-tee. So I hit hybrid again off the tee and crushed it (still a pull, but missed the woods this time). 244 yards is longer than my average drive, so that went well. Lasered the flag, picked my wedge shot based on my clock system, and hit a deft little pitch that rolled up and hit the hole, caroming off the stick to about 3 feet for a kick-in bogey. If that wedge would have gone in, that would have been my best ever PATTS. As it was, it's a nice APATTS. edingc, xOldBenKenobiX, daviddvm and 2 others 5 Quote TS3 9.5°, Tensei Blue CBX T3 15°, Project X HZRDUS Black Epic Super Hybrid 18°, Aerotech Steel Fiber FC HYB S C722 21°, Ventus Blue 8S CBX Iron-Wood 25°, Project X HZRDUS Black 6.0 639 CB, Aldila NV 95 Graphite, 6–PW CBX 48° T22 54° and 60° EAS 4.0, Garsen G-Pro grip TP5x and Tour Response Full WITB with pictures
xOldBenKenobiX
Adding to this treat will be a common occurrence. 1st tee shot of my round Sunday, low slice into the trees by the water, not much but to hit low to avoid branches towards the green, ended up short of the trap, pitched over in, into the green, the putt rolled in beautifully, a little left to right break. To be fair I was aiming center left of the fairway, where it starts to narrow it down, the yellow arrow.
