Anyone seeing any scoring benefits?

Is the club doing what you expected it to? More? Less?
No scoring benefits as of yet... But I do like it out of the rough more than the G400 crossover I was using. I think the deep face is really good in that type of lie. It's been a little better than expected in that aspect.

I'm surprised by the feel as well. Really really really solid feel.

I played earlier this week during an unseasonably windy day.  I was very pleased to see how well this chased into Par 5’s with a lower trajectory.

Face height likely plays a significant role in this and I really appreciate how this does not balloon.

As far as off-center hits go, there is definitely a loss of distance on toe hits.  That said, there is a gear-effect by design and these misses end up turning back and aren’t a total loss into the right.

Definitely agree on the toe hit being shorter.

I don't know about scoring benefits yet.

I haven't paid attention to the timing - were you using this club when you shot your 79? How often do you find yourself in a situation that calls for this club?

Yes, 4 times. 2 were great shots and 2 were not so great. If I'm in the rough, long from the green, I'm thinking this will be the go to club. I'm actually going to try and use it off the tee as well...you'll see Friday.

Agreed. I've hit this into a par 5 twice now. Once from 246 and once from 251. Granted, both were well struck, but that's more than I expected out of it. If the rain stops and ground ever dries up... I'm going to have a gapping problem

How’s the build quality compared to your normal brands?

I was super impressed with the overall quality when I demoed them.

Good weight and balance. Above all it just inspires confidence when you set it up. It’s a really nice club to hit. I am picky as all hell with these clubs because I’ve had zero success. It’s looking like it’s going to earn its keep.

I have used the 4 H as a good rescue club to bail me out of trouble about 50% of the shots. The rest have been Tee shots on Par 4’s that have water 200 yds out or second shot on a Par 5.

So far great action,....

I hit an awful shot Sunday(blue dot). High, off the toe. Resulted in a hard hook. Went through a couple trees, over a river, through some more trees, and landed in the fairway of a previous hole. I was quite surprised, and happy to find it where I did (red dot).... because this indian made a horrible swing with the arrow he was using. That being said, the ball still went 215+ yards...when I fully expected it to be only 125 or less yards from the tee... And probably in the water. #CBXLucky523293288.jpg

I’ve had minimal luck moving the ball. Now in all fairness, I haven’t used it outside of a tee shot or a 230ish approach to a green.

Some may have had better luck but this is more of a straight ball machine for me.

I'm sure there may be times you want to bend it, but I would assume it's extremely comforting to know you have "straight" in that club.

I can bend it on accident with the best of them. Fortunately I just set this one down and swing and the result is well within the margin of error.

Thanks cuz!

If I shape a shot or hit it high or low, it was by accident. As @bens197 said, it's a straight ball machine, like laser straight.

crazy question, I know, and you guys might not hit these types of shots, but have you ever tried chipping with the club?  Like maybe you're 3 feet off the green in some thickish grass and it's a downhill green and you just need to get the ball on and let gravity take over?

or you're 6 feet from the fringe and it's a front hole placement and you just need to get the ball through the fwy and onto the green?

Or....?

I’ll give it a shot tomorrow if the storms hold off. I’m playing with my dad for his 65th (happy Medicare day!)

I haven’t tried it yet only because my go to is either my 52* or a 9iron.

I tend to hit the ball straight, and a tiny fade if any movement. Shaking on purpose is a bit out of my really. With hybrids I've always had a knack for hitting them left. This one I've maintained the same straight or slight fade ball flight. So it's nice that it seems to follow the rest of the clubs in my bag.

That being said, I've shaped it plenty, without trying.... So I'm guessing those that are able to shape shots shouldn't have troubles with this.

or you're 6 feet from the fringe and it's a front hole placement and you just need to get the ball through the fwy and onto the green?
Or....?
I've done it just messing around the practice area. Works well. Turf interaction is solid. It's nice out of the rough (deep and short) and fine off of the short stuff. The deeper face seems to help get the ball up and rolling in both situations. My only issue is that judging distance is tough for me with a hybrid chip. But I could see it being useful getting out of a deep rough situation where one may be afraid of leaving it in the same spot with a wedge chunk.

crazy question, I know, and you guys might not hit these types of shots, but have you ever tried chipping with the club?  Like maybe you're 3 feet off the green in some thickish grass and it's a downhill green and you just need to get the ball on and let gravity take over?

Sidenote... I added a Golf Pride MCC Plus 4 midsize grip to the club when I got it. I thought it'd make the swing weight much lighter. To my surprise, it was still D-2.9. I didn't measure it when I received it, so I'm not sure what it came as, but it had to be D5/6 because I added a much bigger and heavier grip than the stock grip.

Alright, I had some time today and got out in the 90+* weather and did a little research. I wanted to look more at the question of chipping from the rough around the green.

Before I get to the testing comments, I'll say my short game is the strongest part of my game. Getting up and down is pretty regular for me. I use my 58* wedge and it treats me well. So I don't use a hybrid much, if any, because I don't see a benefit for myself. But I know a lot of guys out there that so use it. So it's a great thing to look at for this club testing.

Keep in mind...I've got a 19* version.

CHIPPING OUT OF THE ROUGH

So first up I was using a putting stroke to hit balls out of some decent length rough. You can see from the video, each ball was sitting down just a little further. The ball needed to carry a few yards to get onto the fringe, and then the flag was about 20 feet onto the green. With the high temps and 2+" of rain yesterday, the green was rolling at around an 8. So not too quickly. You'll notice the ball comes out nicely, but not with much height, which caused it to consistently run out 6-7 feet past the hole. Not sure how to control the distance as I needed to hit it hard enough to get it out, but soft enough to make it stay on the green and theoretically give myself a chance at an up and down. I hit 21 total shots, but only videoed 3. If the greens were dry and a bit more firm, I don't think I would have been able to keep it on the green or anywhere near the hole. That being said, a short putter like swing really gave the ball some power to come out of the rough...which could be extremely helpful if you have green to work with. I did find that hitting it with the toe provided a little more height which was noticable....might have even killed some of the rollout a tad bit.

CHIPPING OFF OF THE FRINGE

Next up I was using it from the short fringe. The flag was about 25 feet away, and a tad downhill. Again, I'd normally chip this or putt it if it were under 10 feet, but wanted to try this out. This was more successful for me as I was able to get the balls to stop around the 2-3 feet mark consistently, again hitting 21 shots. I love the fact that there is sooooooooooo much more power off the face of the 119 than my putter would have...which makes long putts/chips around the green, somewhat more feasible... because in my opinion most folks with 30 feet or more, chip or putt, tends to leave it short. I think using the hybrid could help tremendously in that aspect...and will be something to look at for myself. But the feel of the strikes are solid. Easy to take it back and forth. Put a little top spin and away it goes.

So what do you think? Any questions? Any other ways you'd like to see it used?
