Nunfa0
9 hours ago, dhartmann34 said: Alright, I had some time today and got out in the 90+* weather and did a little research. I wanted to look more at the question of chipping from the rough around the green. Before I get to the testing comments, I'll say my short game is the strongest part of my game. Getting up and down is pretty regular for me. I use my 58* wedge and it treats me well. So I don't use a hybrid much, if any, because I don't see a benefit for myself. But I know a lot of guys out there that so use it. So it's a great thing to look at for this club testing. Keep in mind...I've got a 19* version. CHIPPING OUT OF THE ROUGH So first up I was using a putting stroke to hit balls out of some decent length rough. You can see from the video, each ball was sitting down just a little further. The ball needed to carry a few yards to get onto the fringe, and then the flag was about 20 feet onto the green. With the high temps and 2+" of rain yesterday, the green was rolling at around an 8. So not too quickly. You'll notice the ball comes out nicely, but not with much height, which caused it to consistently run out 6-7 feet past the hole. Not sure how to control the distance as I needed to hit it hard enough to get it out, but soft enough to make it stay on the green and theoretically give myself a chance at an up and down. I hit 21 total shots, but only videoed 3. If the greens were dry and a bit more firm, I don't think I would have been able to keep it on the green or anywhere near the hole. That being said, a short putter like swing really gave the ball some power to come out of the rough...which could be extremely helpful if you have green to work with. I did find that hitting it with the toe provided a little more height which was noticable....might have even killed some of the rollout a tad bit. CHIPPING OFF OF THE FRINGE Next up I was using it from the short fringe. The flag was about 25 feet away, and a tad downhill. Again, I'd normally chip this or putt it if it were under 10 feet, but wanted to try this out. This was more successful for me as I was able to get the balls to stop around the 2-3 feet mark consistently, again hitting 21 shots. I love the fact that there is sooooooooooo much more power off the face of the 119 than my putter would have...which makes long putts/chips around the green, somewhat more feasible... because in my opinion most folks with 30 feet or more, chip or putt, tends to leave it short. I think using the hybrid could help tremendously in that aspect...and will be something to look at for myself. But the feel of the strikes are solid. Easy to take it back and forth. Put a little top spin and away it goes. So what do you think? Any questions? Any other ways you'd like to see it used? bens197
Still happy with this club in the bag. I’ll offer more about my proclivity toward carrying a “neat” bag in my Stage 2. bens197
After some trial and error I’ve dialed in my distances with my 17* club. Tee ball has been a steady 230-240 carry with very minimal rollout. It’s a product of my swing and approach angle. To be honest, as a tee shot I prefer to land it within a picture frame rather chase out distance. Off the deck my carry distances are 10 yards shorter which fits right into where I had hoped it would be. It’s fair to say that this is a Stage 2 commentary but I thoroughly enjoy carrying this in my bag. This morning it was as sure as the sun rising in the east. dhartmann34
Well I didn't get what I wanted done with this club this week due to life. But thankfully I passed my last test today, so I'll have many hours back in my day. Next stop... Arcadia Bluffs on Sunday. I'm sure I'll be able to find a shot or two to use this fella! MaxEntropy
Finally got a chance to catch up on this thread. Great job, guys. @MattF do you think the shotscope data you have comparing the 3 hybrids might be an indication that the TE is easier to hit? I know you hit the JGR's farther than that, so I would think you have more shanks with them. For me, I think the TE is easier to hit despite supposedly being a "players" club. Again, I think, it's because of the square setup and the deeper face. In regards to the JGR, what I showed was the P average, the longest I've hit since using Shot Scope with the JGR is 167 yards compared to 235 yards with the TE. I know I haven't hit the JGR that far even before using the Shot Scope. So I would probably agree. bens197 and MaxEntropy 2 Quote In the bag: Driver: Darkspeed X 9° UST Mamiya LIN-Q M40X Blue 7F4 Fairway: Apex UW 19° & 21° Project X HZRDUS Smoke RDX Black 5.5 Irons: JPX 923 HMP 5-PW UST Mamiya Recoil 95 F4 Wedges: T-22 Denim Copper 48°, 52° & 56° UST Mamiya Recoil 95 F4 Putter Sycamore 005 Wide Blade Bag: Fairway 14 stand bag Balls: Chrome Tour Cart: CaddyLite ONE Ver. 8 God Bless America, God save the King, God defend New Zealand and thank Christ for Australia!
