2019 Official Forum Member Review-PING Long Game Gapping Testing/Review

Recommended Posts

Nice job, sir!

I’m just curious. You guys didn’t hit any irons to determine gapping between the shortest of these and those?

Thanks! I told him the lofts of my 4 and 5 irons and we worked off those. He certainly wasn’t rushing, but he was pretty efficient!

Personally, I wish we’d see more offerings in the higher lofted woods. Astsauer has said and myself included, hybrids are not always the easiest to hit.

Now if you were to hand a golfer a 7 or 9 wood and have them take some swings, I’d bet the results would be a very positive outcome.

That’s where I’m different. Hybrids have been easier for me for whatever reason. I think part of it is the smaller footprint. FWs in the other hand have been a real struggle, but the G410 line is a beast. While I didn’t get a 5W, the few swings I took produced a lovely high launch, which any golfer would’ve enjoyed!

I hit hybrids okay but there’s always the fear of the thinned one or the draw turned hook -

Fairway woods are a welcome relief so far. My fitting review is written - just letting the ink dry before I drop it in. Probably tomorrow.

I’m heading out to play

I think one of the things I like most about the G410 FW line is how compact they club heads are. I couldn’t stand the G400 FWs, but they made some welcome design changes. And I think I could easily play a 5W or 7W, but the hybrids are a better fit for me now.

I've had mine ready to go. But wanted you guys to get your Stage 1's up first.   I'll probably post it tomorrow as well.   I keep reading it and thinking itsctoo long...after giving you guys guidelines.

But as MODa we follow a slightly different route.  Usually one combined post to cover all stages.

But this review had a couple different parts.  I'll break it into a couple posts.

Stage 1 is up, just like the ball after it's crushed with a G410 crossover.

Okay, terrible pun, but go check out my stage 1!

A+ based on the strong GIF game alone! Nice work!

He’s the king of pictures OMG! Why him again as a co tester!

But the 9 wood I hit today makes it all worth while. If any of you had seen it. We got to the tee and my playing partner said, “I’m not hitting a call from here!”

I thought, so is this a time for the 9 wood? 168 into a little breeze, I could try and flight it down, carry that crap and keep it on the front tier. Prior to this it would have been 4 hybrid to the back tier, 3 putt and move on. Not today my friends, not today!

mr.hicksta do you typically look for a lower flight with a lot of your clubs given the constant windy conditions?

I typically try to pair low to mid launch shafts with higher lofted club heads and try to flight shots of necessary. I definitely don’t make my setup based on the wind though. And in this case the high ball flight is why I didn’t even give a 5W a second look after the shots I saw during the fitting. The combos I ended up with produce a flight that I think can be played anywhere. At least when I’m not swinging like a jerk

I’m not a huge fan of hot melt, but I’m considering using some on my Crossover later on down the road. Admittedly it has been a mixed bag for me with the club so far, and I’m honestly still trying to figure it out. But the good shots I’ve hit have been impressive so I just need to put in more time with it. And thanks for the kind words!

I actually added a bit more so I could get the head just a bit heavier and it made all the difference. I have found the Crossover extremely forgiving for what it is but I wanted something to bridge the gap between my 4 iron and 3 wood. I'm really interested in the G410 fairways so I'm watching this thread closely!

Man that had to be a hell of an experience! Seems like they got you dialed in quickly, which isn’t surprising at all. With that HIO already it seems like you’re seeing some solid performance out of your setup!

Loving the details so far in the fitting reviews. Were there any clubs or shafts that the fitters recommended that you nodded along with but in the back of your mind you were thinking "oh boy I really don't know about this..."?

Almost a total remodel of the bag.

Driver: Thank you MGS, flat out the best driver I have ever had in the bag.
3W: A random purchase after being unable to hit the original epic 3w. Put same shaft that I was fit for in the epic and it has been a match made in heaven. Absolute money from the tee and I know exactly what it will do from the fairway. Combined with the driver there are not many par 5's that I can't reach.
5W: Solid club but this spot has always been a trouble spot in my bag and that hasn't changed in 20 years.
Irons: Love the combo and they feel absolutely amazing. All of them are 1* strong, standard lie and +1/2" Biggest thing I was looking for in making the change was more control. They definitely fly different than P790's but hopefully after an adjustment period they will meet or exceed my expectations.
Wedges: A different look from what I am used to but feel is amazing. The shaft on full swings is so easy for me to deliver correctly.
Putter: Not a fast revolving door but one that moves some. Have gotten used to the look of the center shaft but still struggling with alignment some.
Ball: Titleist PROV1X #23 imprinted with THEZIPR in blue. Have played this ball since its birth and while I have tried many other options nothing has been able to kick it out.
      Rangefinder: Bushnell PRO X2
Glove: Footjoy Weathersof. Love the Ping tour glove but at the rate I go through gloves I just can't justify the price difference.
Shoes: Ecco Biom G 3 BOA and Biom Hybrid 3 BOA. Most comfortable shoes I have ever worn.

When it comes to PING many things come to mind, quality, engineering, performance and irons are among the first things most people will think of.   And with the release earlier this year of the G410 irons, PING has hit on each one of those characteristics.
Following the huge success of the G400 irons, PING has hit a home run with the striking black and red colors of this iron, as well as a being a bit more streamlined in all the right places.   PING has achieved the rare feat of providing an iron that has a profile appealing to even the most discerning of golfers, but yet still offering the forgiveness and help that higher handicaps look for.

We are looking for three forum members to join staff member Golfspy_Stroker in testing, reviewing and keeping a set of these G410's built to their custom specs.  Testing will require a nearly two month commitment of putting the irons in play on the course, at the range and providing ongoing commentary in the forum thorough out the process.
As an extra bonus to the irons, the selected testers will have the option to choose Golf Pride Tour Velvet grips equipped with Arccos.  The clubs will come with a 99 day free trial to arccos.  After that the tester would be responsible for paying for the subscription in order to continue it.   It will be a great way to add data to your review.
PING has opened this testing to all golfers regardless of country of residence.   All you have to do to be eligible for the testing is follow the below instructions.

In a post in this thread please provide the following information...AND DO NOT QUOTE this post when replying!
First Name/State or Country of residence
      Handicap
      Current irons in Play
The carry distance of the your 7 iron
That's it.   Good luck to everybody
We'll be selecting the testers within the next 10 to 14 days, so check back to see if you've been selected!
