Yup, getting in and out of Bowden Field with a win is HUGE.  Sounds like the Seminoles helped the cause a little.

It's the history of college football programs that keeps repeating itself.  USC, Texas, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Miami, Army, Notre Dame, Michigan, Alabama, and the list goes on.  The only franchise in professional sports history that has never suffered the lean years are the All Blacks... an incredible 77% win percentage all time is a recipe all teams want.

I almost forgot to mention the huge win for UNC over South Carolina in the return of Mack Brown. I can’t beleive I forgot about this one since it was basically in my back yard.

That would be us.  We haven't beaten an FBS team since UVa in 2009.  A fairly pedestrian VA Tech team beat us by 45 last year.

So "Big Blue" is Kentucky and "Blue" is Michigan?  I never really paid much attention to that. Looks like their one and only meeting was in 1908... time for a rematch .  Congrats on the win btw!  I'll be chewing my nails off tonight .

I remember when I lived in southern Michigan as a kid... saying I liked Notre Dame, and their colors...

Pretty sure I was severely disciplined for saying such a thing.

ND looks to have a pretty darn good looking team again this year, so you should be fine. Predictions are that they aren't as strong this year compared to last, but I've learned to never underestimate them at all...ever...Be rooting for them tonight myself

True. But as a Michigan fan I reserve the right to be not thrilled with this past weeks performance.

I don’t better play calling over last year... yet.

It looked like a carbon copy of last year’s opener. While the teams that are on top didn’t skip a beat.

Not a believer, they’ll have to win me over by beating Wisconsin on the road in a few weeks.

Well, not a commanding performance but a win nonetheless.  It's never good to lose your opener and always a plus winning on the road. Louisville is a good program that is quite competitive more often than not.  I'm actually happy they played the Irish strong as it will help keep them grounded and, hopefully, crisp. Huge test on 9/21 against the Bulldogs in the Dog House.  GO IRISH!!

I watched the ND game - first full college football game in several years - still don’t see the attraction - missed tackles, wide open receivers, horrible QB play - maybe 15 minutes of actual game time in a four hour period.

I get going to the games live as there’s lots of energy and excitement but on TV?

I only watched because so many people i respect enjoy it - but I don’t get it.

Enjoy the season for those who do.

I couldn't be happier for Jalen! I knew the kid was going to light it up in Riley's offense. He's going to have video game numbers this year.

 

I did find it strange that the Heisman odds shifted as they did after week 1(one of these is not like the other):

• Trevor Lawrence, QB, Clemson 5/2 (previous odds: 3/1)-13 of 23 w/ 2 total tds 168 pa yds and 2 int's
• Tua Tagovailoa, QB, Alabama 3/1 (previous odds: 11/4)-26 of 31 w/ 4 tds 336 pa yds
• Jalen Hurts, QB, Oklahoma 5/1 (previous odds: 7/1)-20 of 23 w/ 3 tds 332 pa yds and 176 yds rushing 3tds 

Jalen got an understandable bump and imo should be even money with Tua and Lawrence. But I don't understand how Tua and Lawrence basically swap odds when Lawrence put up a stinker and Tua didn't.

Sorry guys - In my defense I originally read a few comments on this thread on my cell phone - all I had to go on was the heading and no hint of a poll.  I saw stuff about the game so assumed (yes I know) that this was a general college football thread.

My heart really wanted to go with UCF. BUT, after watching their first game it doesn't look like grad transfer Brandon Wimbush is the answer for them at quarterback with Milton still out. The offense was much more efficient with their freshman at the helm (same high school as Milton btw, what's in the water in Hawaii.

Stanford and Pitt are their "Power 5" opponents this year, so not necessarily what the pollsters will call "major" competition out of conference. Also observed week 1 were very  strong opening games from Memphis and Cincinatti, while Houston, SMU, and Temple are improving but not really considered conference front runners yet.

End of the day (season?), even if UCF runs the regular season table again (not a given), they will face a tough test in the AAC championship game, and the playoff selection committee rules are stacked too much against any school not in what they call the "Power 5". Memphis and Cincy, even undefeated, are starting too far down the rankings to make it to the top 4. So we in Knight Nation are left yet again to hope for an undefeated season and turmoil at the top of the standings late in the year.

It will be fun to watch in any case.

Ideally there would be a true playoff - 8 team minimum - you have the 5 power conference teams and 3 at large with the stipulation that any undefeated DI team is in so long as they played at least 12 games against other DI schools.

I like the suggested format and have heard others mention that as being a much better system.

I was in the 8-10 team playoff camp. Then I watched the PGA Tour Championship.

Alabama was JT, and Brooks was Clemson . Rory was Oklahoma...

X Man was Georgia.

If they change it I think it will only get worse. You’d see ranking changes to get the seed matchups they wanted...

It’s ok rigged. Bama, Georgia, Clemson, Oklahoma or Oh O State will be the champs. Count on it.

That's the thing. I as an Alabama fan would absolutely freaking love an 8 team playoff for one reason. There is no way that Bama would ever miss a playoff while Saban is still there. Which would piss people off worse. Teams like the 2010 Bama team that lost 3 games would likely still make the playoff and have a great chance at winning it.

 

With that said, I'm fine with it at 4 teams as well. 8 teams feels like it's not even a big deal to make the playoff, which it is. The NCAA is so corrupt that they will do whatever makes them the most money. They don't actually care about what's best for the schools or the players.
