Flipping back and forth between the UT/Vandy game (Go Big Orange!) and the Iron Bowl and the satellite loses signal. Dang DirectTv. I hope Auburn can take Bama down, I'm tired of seeing them in the playoff.

Can someone with more football knowledge explain to me why teams like Auburn can upset a giant on occasion and Michigan folds like a $2 chair?

I’ve been trying to figure this out since they hired Harbaugh. But even before that they were never quite “there”... before Hoke and Rich Rod (those are the dark years)... Even Lloyd struggled in the big games.

The Big House had 106,000+ people there today to watch an absolute blow out. And if you looked closely enough there was waaay too much red in that stadium.

Michigan fans just say forget it?

Someone shed some light for me please.

I’m not even mad, Ohio State played a great game and congratulations to them and their fan base for eclipsing Michigan in the overall Win % today.

I cannot explain it.  There was a time (pre Harbaugh) that going into the "Big House" was a certain loss even when you were favored. Still, a 9-3 season is a good run.  With both Alabama and Minnesota getting upset today, that will shift some bowl selections. I finished up my round today in time to see the finish of both the Auburn vs. Alabama, and Stanford vs. Notre Dame.  Both games finished better than I did on the par 4 #18... a snowman, making what should have been a nice 80 an 84 .

Correct me if I'm wrong here, but I don't see this move a violation of any rules.  Further, using any and all tactics within the rules, to gain an advantage for your team and give them the best chance to win, is exactly what coaches are supposed to do.

OK, it is now clear to me that the CFP/AP/Coaches Poll uses a mathematical model derived from the game of Pick-Up-Sticks .  Michigan loses large and jumps up 1 to 2 spots.  Oregon wins and drops 7 to 8 spots.   Wisconsin soundly dismantles Minnesota and the Gophers jump 2 spots.  

Dabo is crying foul, Nick is claiming deception, and Harbaugh needs new glasses... all is good in Div I football .

USC is ranked solely to keep Utah in the playoff picture. If Utah barely hangs on to beat Oregon, then that opens the door for OU and Baylor. OU would then have two wins against Baylor and in turn if Baylor wins, they would've beaten everyone on their schedule...something only LSU, Ohio St and Clemson have done. 

Of course all of this goes to pot if Georgia beats LSU...but Georgia has trouble scoring over 24 points against ranked opponents this years so I'm confident LSU will score 4 touchdowns and put the game out of reach.

The AP poll is just an aggregate of a bunch of biased sports media members. The coaches are just guessing off name value and what little tape they've seen from teams they've played. They don't have a clue. Most of the AP voters aren't much better and have a bias.

The only ones who are using a mathematical model is the CFP committee. The only reason they won't say as much is to preserve some form of mystery and to make people talk. I personally think it's dumb that they won't explain their rankings, but they've been consistent the whole time.

Go check out Dave Bartoo and Adam McClintock if you want the rankings before they come out each week. I believe their @ on twitter is CFBMatrix and CFBProfessor respectively. They nail the rankings basically every week with the occasional team being a spot off here and there. I haven't had a chance to look them up today or I'd just post their rankings.

 

Edit: Like the CFB rankings or not, at least they've been consistent. Transparency would be nice. This bait and switch stuff bc of "eye test" and what not is stupid
