According to the Sagarin rankings, the SEC has the best conference and it's not particularly close. 3 of the top 5, 4 of the top 10, 6 of the top 20, 8 of the top 40, and 12 of the top 60 are SEC teams.

There is also a FCS team at 31 and 6 of the top 30 teams are G5 teams...

And FYI, for those wondering this trend pretty much holds true for well over a decade.

One of the "weakest" years for the SEC in the Sagarin was 2017 when Bama and UGA played in the NCG. And they were still easily the most competitive league.

I'm glad to hear Mike Leach is headed to Mississippi State... college football just wouldn't be the same without his highly analytical pre, half time, and post game interviews 😁.

Baylor takes away LSU top assistants. Rhule takes Brady to Charlotte and then we name Aranda head coach. Talk of Aranda bringing over the safeties coach to be our DC and grabbing Utah‘s OC for the same position

The Tigers are losing the top talent to the Pros, which was expected, but losing Brady and Aranda are from what it will be REALLY tough to recover! Sheesh.

You like the hire? He gonna keep McGuire?

I like the hire but I’ll love it if he can bring in a good staff and retain a few coaches like McGuire. Joey McGuire is one of Baylor’s best recruiters and despite having such strong Texas roots, he’s our best out of state closer for recruiting. I think Aranda is supposed to meet with with coaches and players tomorrow. Sounds like Aranda won’t win you over with an inspirational speech but he’ll impress the hell out of you with his football knowledge.

I'm an Alabama fan and as much as I love seeing them dominate other teams, it does nothing for the game, doesn't help either program, or the NCAA at all. I hate these scrub schedules then you get a tough game and cant execute start to finish. SEC needs to up their conference games as well and move from the current 8 games of conference to play to 9. There's too many years that can go by where conference teams dont even play each other.

I'd love to see some kind of rules where it limits the scheduling of Division 1-AA games and makes you schedule more Power 5 conference games.

True

For example, 2019 was the first time A&M played Georgia. The 14-team super-conference makes for odd scheduling, especially when you only play an 8-game league slate. More divisional crossover games would be better for season ticket-holders and fans.

But, the current formula works for making the CFB Playoffs. SEC and ACC aren't compelled to change anything.

Beckham doing something stupid and emphasizing his narcissist character... who'd have thunk it 🙄.  If he's got a beef with the system (the same one who afforded him the opportunity to secure a $90M contract) he should use some of his nest egg to file suit against the NCAA - as opposed to grandstanding during the LSU players celebration.

If you've never read the article, Meet the Bagman, you should.

Personally, I've never actually seen money change hands until OBJ's act on Monday night. But, I believe it probably goes on at every big time athletic program. The discreet "$100 handshake" is tough to prove. Passing out wads of cash on national TV is not. It'll be interesting to see if the NCAA does anything.

Just this week, former UT player Emmanuel Acho talked about $1,000 bonuses for interceptions during his playing days. There goes his inside access to Texas Football...

So what's everyone's thoughts on who's going where in the first five draft picks? My predictions are, presuming the teams use their slated order:

Joe Burrows (LSU) to the Bengals

Chase Young (OSU) to the Redskins

Isaiah Simmons (Clemson) to the Lions

Jerry Jeudy (Alabama) to the Giants

Tua Tagovailoa (Alabama) to the Dolphins

I have it the same way except I have Tristan Wirfs to the Giants.
I would also not be surprised if someone like the Chargers, Panthers, Bucs, or even the Raiders trade up with the Lions or Giants to take Tua before the Dolphins can.

Please.... just no on Tua. Tua is a broken man. He's Bo Jackson broken. I'll stick with Carr one more season, even though I feel he is also a broken man. Maybe we can swing a trade deal for Trevor Lawrence next year.

Lol. I listed the Chargers first as I see that as the most likely team to trade up to get Tua.
As for the Raiders, I have a feeling that Mayock and Gruden may do something big to provide a big bang heading to Las Vegas. Especially with how the year ended.

I agree. I also agree with your earlier point that bowl records are meaningless. You don't know which teams are motivated, which teams coaches are leaves, plus players might not play to prep for the draft. There's a lot of variables in there. Plus you aren't always matching up equal teams. Such as a conference's 2 vs another's 2 for example.

Back to Clemson. To me, Clemson is such a wildcard every year. You know they are great but it's impossible to know just how great they are going into the playoffs. Because they only play 2 or 3 decent or good teams a year, you don't really know how they'll react to adversity or to an equal/better opponent.

Clemson is lucky to play in such a weak conference right now. They have no real contenders, so if they can manage to not lose a bad game they will always get in. Which makes them a big “wildcard” as you said, you just don’t know how good or bad they are. I think they played a very good game, just didn’t have enough in the secondary to compete with those receivers.

The 'Power Rankings Guru', whoever that is, rated Clemson's schedule 66th after the regular season. They'e acquitted themselves well in the CFB playoffs, but yeah, the ACC doesn't show up until #25 with Maryland on his SOS radar. Who else rates & ranks CFB schedules? Phil Steele does in the preseason.

Lol....that's right, but they really shouldn't be. But, WVU shouldn't be in the Big 12 either. So now we're looking at Louisville.

He'll be fine. I don't think the Raiders trade up for him though.

His injury was not at all like Bo's, bc Bo's genius self put the bone back in place and reentered the game. He didn't even get it looked at for a while and the nerve damage and cell death from torn blood vessels going untreated for so long are what did him in.

Tua's injury is more similar to what happened to CJ Mosely in the 2011-12 NC game. He turned out to be alright in the NFL.

I know all about Bo Jackson's injury.... and what went down afterward. I just think Tua will never be the same. Of course, I'm probably wrong, but I wouldn't bet on it...lol.

I don't see Gruden/Mayock taking a QB in this draft unless it's for a back up roll. Carr will be the guy in Vegas... at least for the first year. I don't think Gruden is happy with him.... and at least 50% of Raiders fans aren't either.... me included. The Raiders have more pressing needs than QB right now. I have no doubt Carr will be replaced at some point, just not next season.

Being a Raiders fan, I assumed you were familiar with Bo's. But Tua's injury doesn't include the nerve or vessel damage. Which is what kept Bo from ever being able to get right. Tua is currently ahead of schedule and expected to make a complete recovery.

I meant to reference CJ Mosley in my last post btw, not Moses. His injury is most similar to Tua's and he's been one of the best linebackers in the NFL since being drafted.

I expect the Raiders to draft a WR early and get help on defense. Carr's contract is likely bigger than they'd like to eat this season. Plus he's not totally useless. I just don't think he and Gruden get along at all. I work with a massive Raiders fan, so I try to keep up with them more than I used to. Plus my "hot take" from last season was that Josh Jacobs would be the best NFL back Bama's produced. So I guess I've got some skin in their offense.

I hope Tua recovers fully. He's a great talent that will be fun to watch. I'd love to see the Raiders get Jerry Jeudy or CeeDee Lamb, but I don't think there is much chance of that.

I think there's a decent chance one of them would fall to 12. If not one of them, Tee Higgins declared for the draft as well.

Honestly, I had hoped the Tua injury would scare off Miami and he'd fall to a decent team. I don't think it'll happen at this point though.

With Mortensen and Schefter both confirming that Rivers has moved to Florida, I think there is a very good chance that the Chargers trade up to get Tua now. I know this doesn’t mean Rivers is retiring or not gonna play for them this year but it seems to be a big step in that direction. Unless another QB like Hurts, Herbert, or Love blow them away.

I thought you might enjoy this @txgolfjunkie

https://www.panthers.com/news/david-tepper-matt-rhule-go-to-brooks-sandwich-shop-charlotte

For those that don't know the story.  Brooks Sandwich House has been a Charlotte fixture for 50 years.  The twin brothers took over when their father passed away several years ago.  Scott Brooks was opening up the restaurant on December 9th when he was shot and killed.  Sadly, the murder is still unsolved.  Matt Rhule is really ingratiating himself to the entire community.

I would also point out, new Panthers owner David Tepper also just purchased Waterford Golf Club in nearby Rock Hill, SC.

I didn’t realize that this made it into the news.   We still have no idea what’s going to actually happen to the course.
