deejaid
Hey spies. As many of you know my golfing journey as taken me into the world of classic persimmon woods. Combining golf with my love of woodworking seemed to be a natural step and I have shared posts here with you all about classic club repair. Well, after months of work I finally launched a website aimed at the classic game of golf. http://www.poweredbypersimmon.com was created to raise interest and inform new players about playing classic persimmon era golf. I really want golfers to have a positive experience using quality wooden golf clubs. If you are interested in taking your game in a different direction, check out the site. As a thanks to all the support from MGS forum members I am offering 15% off all purchases now through Monday July 8th. Just type MGS in the coupon code window. I hope you all dig the site! I really admire people like you deejaid who have the skill and patience to do things like this. I really love the old clubs for many reasons. That's the equipment I started playing this game with. That's all there was. Clubs made from trees and irons that were/are beautiful. (but oh so unforgiving) It's a game many have never experienced and probably never will. One might say you'll never really know this game if you don't understand where it came from. And that means playing some of the old equipment. To me there is nothing in golf quite like the feel and sound of well struck tee shot with a wooden driver. Perhaps and especially persimmon! I hope to share that feeling with more golfers, especially those that have never even tried it, they will be pleasantly surprised.Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk WITB: Stan Thompson “Reactionizer” persimmon woods 1-4 Spalding Tour Edition 3-PW Spalding Top-Flite E.V.A. Kenny B
Since I started playing golf in the early 1990's, I never played persimmon. I've hit them... once; never again!! However, my wife started playing golf in the 1960's with her mom's persimmon PowerBilt woods and blades. She still has them and they are in good shape. She was playing them when we met in early 2000. I called her "Bam Bam". She eventually moved on the a full set of Cobra SS350 clubs and now she plays TM Burner irons. A couple of years ago, she got out her persimmon driver and hit it just as far as her current driver TM RBZ Stage 2. The only difference is that she can't hit it like that on every shot!! “We don’t stop playing the game because we get old; we get old because we stop playing the game.”

Golfspy_CG2
That's a great looking site Deejaid. Really polished and professional, but then I know your background...ha I started playing with a set of persimmon Acushnet woods in 1977. Believe it or not the 5 wood stayed in my bag until about 2000 or 2001. It was just a great club to hit. One day I was paired up with a grandfather and his teenage grandson. When granddad saw the club, he asked if he could hold it for a moment. He showed the kid the face screws, and said, this is what I'm talking about when I say, I got that one on the screws. The kid just looked dumbfounded. deejaid
Glad you guys are digging the site. I must admit, I hated working on it. Since my Mac died I’ve been using my wife’s old laptop running Windows 7. Sometimes just to make little changes to the site took a long time due to computer crashes. It was such a hassle. I’d much rather be out at my workbench than in front of a computer screen. That’s funny about the teenage kid Rob. They really have no idea how good it feels to pure a persimmon driver. It’s a shame but hopefully they get to experience it once in their lives. Now I can’t tell you how many guys my age and up have approached me at the range to talk about the clubs when I’m hitting them. My swing with the persimmons is pretty grooved now after playing them exclusively for the last year so first they are surprised I’m hitting them that well, then they want to talk about them, and finally, after some convincing that it’s not too difficult, they give them a swing. This past weekend, a guy I met at the range took the Orlimar 3-wood and was so giddy just looking at it, telling me he used to play Orlimars back in the day. First shot he thinned a bit. Next two were perfect. He had a huge smile on his face. To me, that’s what this is all about.Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk WITB: Stan Thompson “Reactionizer” persimmon woods 1-4 Spalding Tour Edition 3-PW Spalding Top-Flite E.V.A. deejaid
Deejaid's Time Machine. Helping us all recapture our youth Now if you can just add some Abba soundtrack to the site I’ll tell you what, I did go back in time yesterday. I was at the range all by myself, not another soul anywhere around me. I was hitting my Mac Combo set, same set I dreamed about when I was 15. The bird sounds and the smell of the grass instantly transported me back to my grandfathers farm, pounding balls all by myself into an empty field. It was a fleeting feeling as some people arrived for a clinic and interrupted my solitude, but for a moment, I was there and I was a kid again.Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk WITB: Stan Thompson “Reactionizer” persimmon woods 1-4 Spalding Tour Edition 3-PW Spalding Top-Flite E.V.A. pulledabill
Nice site and I admire your dedication. Ive played persimmons and there is not a better feeling shot in golf than catching one on the screws. I was still playing them when metals started coming out and I was one of few that had a real wood in my bag. I then found the Bridgestone Whopper driver. I remember trying my wood after a few rounds with the Whopper and I couldnt even hit it Wish I had them clubs still. I have found a few at Goodwill and plan to.hit them one of these days. golfertrb
Deejaid - the site is really great and your products are well priced. When I first played golf I used Ping Eye 2 woods and then shortly after longed for a Woods Bro Texan because of my fandom of Freddie Couples and Davis Love III. I ordered the driver and 3 wood and I paid more for them than I for ANY clubs up to that point but I couldn't have cared less! I have them under their Jan Craig headcovers in my office. The best persimmon club I've ever owned though was. Tommy Armour 3 wood and friend gave to me in the early 90's when I couldn't get along with any. That club was amazing! I played it for many, many years and still have it. What a great club that could use some refinishing - now I know where to send it!Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Ping G400 LST 8.5* Graphite Design DI 6 stiff 45" Taylormade RBZ Proto 14.5* Oban Kiyoshi 85 04 42.5" Adams 4555 19* Matrix Ozik Altus 80 S/X 42" Ping G410 Crossover 2 Project X Even Flow Blue 85 6.0 40" Ping i500 4-8 Modus 105 Stiff Ping Blueprint 9-P Modus 105 Stiff Fourteen RM-12 53* and 58* Tour Issue Black Onyx s400 Odyssey Tour Black Series 9 35" Flatso 1.0 Srixon Z Star XV 2018 Ping Hoofer
