Danielle Downy Credit Classic ProAm

I had posted in another forum that I was invited to play in a ProAm on the Symetra Tour next week in Rochester NY. I thought it might be fun to use this thread to post some pictures and hopefully somewhat of a running blog of the experience.

For me personally this is going to be a lot of fun since I am taking the entire family with me. My 13 year old son has been volunteered to carry my bag for me and my wife and two daughters will be our walking gallery. The cool part is none of my children have seen me play anything other than a fun round and this may be as close as they will get to seeing me play a competitive round.

The event will start with the players’ party on Tuesday night and our ProAm tee time is 8:50 am on Wednesday morning at Brook Lea CC. I know absolutely nothing about the course other than it is a Donald Ross course and more than likely will be under 6,400 yards.

The tournament is the 9&9 format so we will be playing 9 holes with two different pros. I found out this week that our pros will be Allie White and Marta Sanz Barrio. Did a little research on them and they both seem like nice young ladies and should be a blast to play golf with.

On a side note my daughters are 8 and 10 years old and really starting to get the golf bug. I really think that having them at an event with good golf and players that are very accessible will give them a good push forward in their development. So as you can tell this is going to be a really fun week.

Any questions you guys have just fire away.

Not sure but I would assume so since they have a morning and afternoon ProAm.

Brook Lea is nice. Small quick greens and a nice Ross Layout...there are two Private clubs in town where both 9’s end on Par 3’s. Midvale is the other and it was Robert Trent Jones’ first design.

If you’re looking for places to go or eat let me know. The west side (where you’re playing) is famous for Italian food.

Safe travels up north and play well.

This sounds like it will be a blast.

I actually got to know Allie and her family several years ago when the UNC team and family stayed in my hotel during the NCAA Championships.    She is such a sweet young woman and her parents are awesome.

I have played jn a few Pro Ams on that tour—when it was The Futures Tour.   Without exception each one was a great time.

Si cool your family will get to share the experience with you.

My assumption is that it is based on all the others I have been scoring. I was confused since in another thread you were talking about getting stroke. Should be a scramble format with no score worse than par.

Have fun; should be a great time.

More of a joke on getting shots.  I play the pros at my club straight up just about every weekend. I am not even sure how to play if I am getting shots and generally if I am getting one the group is playing off of me so I am at scratch anyway.

From a forum perspective today was a dud. Played all 18 holes in a complete downpour that required three golf shirts, two pairs of shorts, a rain jacket, four hats and two pairs of rain gloves. Taking pics and blogging the round unfortunately we’re not an option. On the plus side I played with two great young women and had a really good time. I will post the few pics I was able to get in some thought later after I dry myself and my gear out.

Just a recap of our round. We played the front nine with Ssu-Chia Cheng as Allie White decided to withdraw a day or so ago. This young lady was cool as can be and had a lot of game. On 1 we played my drive, her wedge to the green and made the putt for an opening bird. On the Par 5 second I hit a drive center cut that left 228. I hit 4 iron over the top the the flag to 20 feet led to another bird. On three the rain came and it was all the pro. Her tee ball and her putt for three birds in a row. Then the monsoon started and we made six straight pars. Ssu (we were told to just call her Sue) was awesome. The few holes that my wife and kids were able to walk she had all of them on the green rolling putts and just encouraging them to play golf, really cool.

On the 10th we changed pros and well I changed into my third golf shirt, second pair of shorts, fourth hat and new rain gloves (the pro at this place loved me and my family today). Add these to the two sweatshirts, the umbrella and the rain jacket I bought and I am pretty sure his kids are set for college. The second pro we played with was Marta Sanz Barrio from Spain and played college golf at Auburn. This young lady could not have been nicer. The rain on the back 9 actually got worse to the point that I tried talking the group into calling it to no avail. I kept telling her I was sorry we were keeping her out in this and she just laughed and said it was part of the job. We made a few birds on the back 9 and played as well as we could. After the round I had the pleasure of having a quick meal with Marta and her sister Patricia which was just fantastic.

Funniest moment on the course besides Ssu telling in on the 10th tee that we should keep playing as the heavy stuff won’t come down for awhile was Marta telling me on 11 that I couldn’t hit it over the tree in front of us. We had 177 with a rather large tree in front of us that I was apparently the only person that was looking up instead of under. Was pretty cool to pull off the shot with an 8 iron to 10 feet. Missed the putt but pulled off the shot.

At the end of the day despite the weather it was a great day. Played with two young ladies that are chasing their dreams and can really play.

Here is the one picture my wife got before the heavens opened, it was my tee ball on #1.
