Check out the course tour - https://www.valleycountryclub.net/Golf-(1)/Valley-Country-Club/1

It's not a terribly long course but there are some tight holes and the greens are undulating and super fast.
So - if you can hit it decently long and straight, read greens, understand pace you'll score well.  If not, well...let's not talk about that part.

The week of my 3 day member/guest has finally arrived.  Wedgie and GolfSpy Stroker will be representing all who will listen in this tournament and we are in it to win it.  The format is 6 nine hole matches in flights.  Playoff is alternate shot.  The prize you ask?  Free membership to the club for one year plus we plan to go big on the side betting to make this a huge haul over 3 days.  Stroker is ready!  Wedgie is ready!  Only question now is are our competitors ready to get spanked?

Stroker and I have been playing together for about a year now so I know we can do it.  In our 36 hole practice day last week I think I shot 87 and 90 and Stroker was just about the same.  Crappy scores?  Pfft...we call it dialing it in!

I hope between the 2 of us we can get  some pictures and updates posted as we go.  Tournament starts Friday, beer starts Friday night!

Wish us luck!

I like the strategy of shooting high scores in practice round. It is a great confidence booster. You have already seen the whole course. No more surprises. Keep eliminating variables like that and victory will be yours!!

Thanks for the well wishes guys. I thought I’d provide a quick injury report from my side.

Garmin GPS watch is a questionable. Working about 50% of the time.

Callaway s200 range finder is out. New battery has not solved the issue of being a cheap laser or its lack of picking up the flag.

Golf Buddy voice is probable. Screen doesn’t work but since it talks it doesn’t matter.

I will report the starting club and ball lineup the night before the event.

Stroker and I wrapped up the tournament yesterday and it was a tough, hot 3 days. Stroker played great and me not so much. We ended up as the last seed in the top flight of 6 teams and finished 5th in our flight. We won a couple and hung tough in a couple other matches but faced 6 birdies in 9 holes yesterday and we went ahead and ordered beer at that point. Usually even par wins holes but not this weekend.

Thanks to Stroker for a great time!

@Wedgie doesn't give himself enough credit!

First - thanks to him for inviting me to his club for the tournament... I had never had the opportunity to participate in one of these and it was a great great time from beginning to end... If you ever run across Wedgie you'll know because he's the nicest guy in the room.  A true midwestern down-to-earth easy going guy that is a lot of fun to play golf with.

As he said, we were basically "overseeded".... He's an 8 and I'm a 9 and we were stuck in the top flight because all of the other handicaps were higher.... Now, this could be the way these tournaments work, but there were some "fishy" handicap values going on... "that's all I have to say about that".

3 rounds of golf (six 9 hole matches) and we played well (both of us!) but when you are against teams throwing birdies at you like it's no big deal we realized it would be an uphill climb; for example, first team we played one of the guys had "JW Golf" on his hat and shirt.  Asked him what that was and he said he's the golf coach for Johnson & Wales University.  DOH!  We actually took that team to the last hole but I blew my approach shot and they ended up winning with a par.

Second day went pretty well but as Wedgie said, we ran up against 2 buzz-saws on the last day ... first team parred the first hole and birdied the next 5 in a row... haha.  We were even par but that just wasn't good enough.  Next team had a guy who's putter was red red hot...and we were nearly done with our first bucket of Miller Lite by the time we started playing them anyhow.  😆

It was 3 exciting and HOT days of golf that I'll never forget!

We did get the only birdie on #17 on day 2 and won some $$ from the skin.

oh yeah... I won a new TaylorMade M5 driver in the raffle too.  🙂 🙂

The green complexes were very tough.... some severe slopes and if you were on the wrong side it was an easy 3 putt.
The slope here doesn't do it justice... if you get past the pin your rolling off the green.
IMG_20190721_120513.jpg

Here's @Wedgie shooting the pin on a short but very difficult par 4 due to the green.  It's basically the hood of a VW... and if you aren't near the pin you can 4 putt it.
IMG_20190719_161153.jpg

The 18th hole, second shot... the green is over the hill and about 190 yards down; blind shot and you hope to hit it straight.
IMG_20190719_165343.jpg

Another shot of Wedgie shooting the pin ...  you can kind of see the false front and how it slopes off the back...He birdied this one during our last 9 hole match !!
