TR1PTIK
Read the article earlier as well. Definitely hits home for me with a 7 year old girl of my own. I'll certainly do more to stress the importance of awareness on the golf course or driving range, I'll also make sure to never park the cart anywhere in front of my ball. Truly sad story and I can't imagine what that guy is going through now... Kanoito
RIP little girl. Last week, my wife and I had a lesson with my pro, so we decided to take our daughter (4.5 years old) with us so she could smack some balls. You won't believe how many times I had to tell her to stop walking behind us when we are swinging. I then had to put her on time-out on the bench... it's just too dangerous if you can't follow a few safety rules. So to all parents out there, you can never be too careful... be safe! We're in the midst of our junior summer golf camps. We have as many as 14 campers in a session. All from ages 5 up to 12. Keeping the 5 and 7 year olds under control and not watching where they are walking and looking before they swing a club is not something I'd like to be in charge of. We have a PGA Pro and he has a couple helpers who keep it very orgazniaed. Even at that a young boy got hit in the head with a putter last week requiring a trip to the ER and 4 stitches. It only takes a moment for something to go wrong, even in a "safe" sport like golf. PlaidJacket
Here at our First Tee chapter we start with safety and remind constantly. Especially, the younger ones. They are taught to hold the club by the head when not making a stroke. We also have designated safety zones marked where the kids must stand if they are not making a stroke. ie... around the putting green, chipping area, or range. Just last night things were getting out of hand for a moment so one of the coaches had to halt instruction briefly and tell everyone to stop and lay down their clubs until it was their turn. Basically, she was regaining control and their attention. Kids are kids and they get excited and such. You just have to be careful. russtopherb
To piggy back on Plaid Jacket's comments, my son's PGA Jr team is constantly reminding the kids about safety procedures, where to walk and when, what to be careful of, etc. Still, what a terrible situation. 808nation
Very tragic I could never forgive myself if I was the one caused it. Sometimes we take things for granted, we have to be aware of our surroundings at all times and remember to yell out FORE!!! even if you think it won't reach them or think the golfer as moved on.
