Wow, Rory takes a 2 shot penalty on #14 for "touching the sand" in a trap.  He thought it was a stone/pebble behind his ball, and apparently it was a sand clog.  Because he touched it, 2 strokes - ridiculous.  Here's another rule that needs improvement.

There needs to be some common sense clause with the rules.

To Rory's credit, he took the penalty with class.

Glad we got a Masters Win... it’s time to hang it up.

For this season I’d agree - go home, rest, get healthy and make another run - shoot for 15 spread out tournaments next season.

Since the Masters in April, Tiger has played in 5 tournaments, missing 2 cuts and a WD this week after one round.  That's 13 rounds of golf in 4 months.  With that amount of time off, he should be rested and healthy.  There's something else going on, I feel.

If there is something going on, I truly wish he would have just did a Tiger Mic drop and retired after the Masters.

I think everyone would have understood. Was the perfect way to hang it up if that is what he needs to do.

de chambeau taking 3 minutes over a putt and the same on a 40 yd pitch is ludicrous, penalty strokes need to be applied as this is dullsville arizona to watch.

I thought the rule was 40 seconds from when it's your turn to play?

First to hit gets a minute, then each subsequent player gets 40 seconds as they should be assessing their shot while the others are playing.

Just seems like the rules officials are scared to alter the result of a tournament because of slow play despite it being in the rules.

Hook an antenna up to your TV.  CBS should be broadcast in your area free of charge and probably better quality than cable.

I have never been able to buy into the whole “playoff” format. Going all the way back to the very beginning. It feels too NASCAR’ish to me.

I have watched the Women’s Scottish Open and US Women’s Amateur. Haven’t watched a minute of the tournament being played on a landfill.

Golf Digest just ran an article with PGA Tour VP of Rules Slugger White. Here's his comment on slow play.

"I hate slow play as much as the next guy, but I can’t agree with the idea of hitting players with penalty strokes. Maybe it’s because I was a player once, but I envision these horrible trickle-down effects. Say there’s a player who barely squeezes into the top 125 of the final FedEx Cup points standings because he made a couple of thousand dollars more at a tournament than the player right behind him on the list. Imagine if he’d been hit with a one-stroke penalty at a key moment because he was two seconds over his time. Say the penalty cost him $5,000. Suddenly he’s so far down the FedEx Cup point list he doesn’t have a place to play the following year, which in turn might mean his kid can’t go to college, or he can’t put a down payment on that decent house. Or worse. Basically it means you’ve drastically affected the guy’s life with the click of a stopwatch. I’m all for looking at fine structures, maybe increasing them. But determining his fate with a stopwatch to me is a little harsh."

It is BS really. You could make the same argument over any ruling that penalizes a player that it's affecting their livelihood. The facts are that slow play is in the rulebook but it's not getting called like every other rule is. If that's White's position on things then he shouldn't be heading up the rules for the Tour.

I like DeChambeau. I think he's an interesting character but at the same time, he needs to pick up the pace. He's not the only offender but it seems we hear more about him, J.B. Holmes and Patrick Cantlay than anyone else. I can understand play slowing a bit in tricky weather conditions, but even then these guys are pushing the limit of what should be considered acceptable. There's no excuse for consistently not being even remotely ready when it's your turn to hit.

Fines aren't working. Top players using interviews and social media to call out slow players isn't working. It's long past time for the Tours to step in and do something about it like the rule books say. After all rules are supposed to be rules, right?

I think we see a change soon.

Quite a bit more players calling BS on the social outlets...

But it’s an attack and puts players in a bad light...

Agreed. If the VP of Rules is not enforcing the rules, he has to go. I understand not wanting to hurt people's livelihood, but he has a job to do and isn't doing it. How many of us would lose our jobs because we chose not to abide by the rules?

Livelyhood? What about poor Viktor Hovland that got screwed out of a card by a few points... and then they change the rule the following week... that is crap.

You’re correct, I forgot about that fiasco.

Playing slow is definitely annoying but someone who plays fast can be just as bad, if not worse.

Look where Koepka is standing when Rory is hitting this shot.  That's rude and annoying and unfair to Rory...not to mention bad etiquette.

While everyone is jumping all over BAD, remember that there's another side to the story...

It's bad etiquette but is it against the rules? No worse than the galleries IMO, and he's standing still. Bryson has no excuse for taking 2+ minutes for that putt, that was ridiculous. Defending it by saying he's doing it for spectators is also horse manure -- it sucked watching his group at the Sony, but I wanted to follow his playing partners.

The angle is a little deceiving; Rory is going over the water on this hole.  But I can guarantee you that Brooks would NOT be standing there if I were hitting that shot!!
