Livelyhood? What about poor Viktor Hovland that got screwed out of a card by a few points... and then they change the rule the following week... that is crap.
 

That was just ridiculous. Good grief - where does that fit in the "spirit of the game"?

Golf Digest just ran an article with PGA Tour VP of Rules Slugger White. Here's his comment on slow play.

"I hate slow play as much as the next guy, but I can’t agree with the idea of hitting players with penalty strokes. Maybe it’s because I was a player once, but I envision these horrible trickle-down effects. Say there’s a player who barely squeezes into the top 125 of the final FedEx Cup points standings because he made a couple of thousand dollars more at a tournament than the player right behind him on the list. Imagine if he’d been hit with a one-stroke penalty at a key moment because he was two seconds over his time. Say the penalty cost him $5,000. Suddenly he’s so far down the FedEx Cup point list he doesn’t have a place to play the following year, which in turn might mean his kid can’t go to college, or he can’t put a down payment on that decent house. Or worse. Basically it means you’ve drastically affected the guy’s life with the click of a stopwatch. I’m all for looking at fine structures, maybe increasing them. But determining his fate with a stopwatch to me is a little harsh."

Well, Slugger, why have the rule? If it’s not going to be enforced, get rid of it. Simple as that.
These excuses piss me off. Affecting a livelihood?! Bryson? JB Holmes?! They’re freaking MILLIONAIRES and that’s just from endorsements! Give me a break. If it affects rankings and cards, and you get popped and miss your card for the year, guess what?! Speed-up! There’s only ONE person to blame for losing a stroke due to slow play, and we ALL know it’s the player!
Excuses... Give me a freaking break.

I don't think he's anywhere close to being done.  Hell, look at Freddy, his back has been a subject of discussion and source of frustration for he and his fans... but he keeps on going and remains pretty competitive.  Some of this could just be Tiger just coming to grips with not being the front-runner week in and week out.  The combination of not feeling/being at near 100% physically, and not dominating when he is, is a big change psychologically - especially coming from his pinnacle.

Yeah I'd agree with that. I'd much rather see guys at their ball waiting for their turn than hanging back while others hit. If there's an issue with where they're standing, they can always be asked to move over.

Personally I think Tiger’s mentality of always needing to be the best still gets the “best” of him. Between the Ball commercial about still having one of the fastest swings on tour and talking about keeping up with DJ, Rory, and Brooks off the tee, he just can’t let it go. If he wants to catch Jack and Sam, he needs to forget about distance and find a swing that hits the fairway more consistently. The he can use that great ball striking to make a run on Jack. Plus it may prolong his career.
If he continues to try to “keep up” with the other guys, I don’t think he will make through next year.

I have never been able to buy into the whole “playoff” format. Going all the way back to the very beginning. It feels too NASCAR’ish to me.
 
I have watched the Women’s Scottish Open and US Women’s Amateur. Haven’t watched a minute of the tournament being played on a landfill.

As did I.  I have known Lanto Griffin since he was a young child in Blacksburg, Virginia.  I don't know him well but well enough to speak when we see one another.  Excited to see what he can do with his second go-around on the PGA Tour.

I got home from the range, changed into some swim trunks, and jumped in the pool. I turned-on the tournament to watch the last few holes while I cooled off. I happened to turn it on JUST as JT made the eagle! I actually laughed out loud when he finished because Hideki shot the course record yesterday, and JT bests it by 2 one day later! I really like Thomas, but he’s SO streaky.

Points are quadrupled come playoffs so it really gives anyone a chance to win as long as they a) make it to the playoffs and b) play really well when they get there.
