Just a guess. The V6’s are due for an update. If I were Wilson, I would make them look similar to the driving irons that G. Wood had for The Open.

Similar shape to the Blades would be emoji383.png

Ohhhhh those would be awesome.  I just wish I had the game for something like that!

I tested the P790, Forged Tec and i500 and preferred the forged tec. Just slightly more forgiving than the p790 for me and given where my swing is at I went for the Cobra. Was actually a big decision

... Always take your irons with you and it at least gives you a baseline. If you know you hit your 7 iron 155 and you are hitting it 165 on the LM in the store, you know the new irons you are demoing

I’m pretty happy with my Sub 70 739 irons I recently purchased. They compared well with any of the major OEM game improvement iron. Quality stuff, custom built, excellent service and very affordable.

Handicap imo has nothing to do with the irons one plays..first golf is fun and people should play what they like and makes them want to go play and or practice.

second someone could be a high hdcp because of bad tee game or short game but yet hits irons pretty well. Someone else could be fine off the tee but struggle with irons.

A better approach would be how is your ball striking? What are you strengths/weaknesses

So many good irons out now. Jeez, to pick one, I’d have to hit some sets! In the one fitting earlier this year I really liked all of the Mizunos in the 919 range. The TaylorMade P760s are nice, Ping i500, Ping iBlade, Sub70 MB+ are a really nice blade with forgiveness built-in. Just a TON of nice ones out there.

... I am currently playing Taylor Made P760's that have an amazing progressive forgiveness starting with a standard one piece forged CB in the pw-8. Then each iron from the 7 to the 3 gets a thinner face and more foam going from a little more forgiveness in the 7 to max forgiveness in the 3. All in a smaller looking head with the best feel I have experienced in a foam filled head. When I started going to the PGA Show close to 20 years ago and reviewing what I thought were the Best Clubs in every category, there were almost always one or two choices that really stood out. Last years show was filled with a myriad of great clubs in every category. So much comes down to personal preference because almost every OEM is offering excellent clubs. There really is something for everyone.

... That said, I will add what I think is the sleeper in best bargains out there. Cobra Tour Forged irons. If you are in the Players Iron market, there just isn't a better iron available for the price. Slightly longer heel to toe for max forgiveness, multi material design with excellent heel/toe weighting forgiveness, all in a narrowish sole with a thin top line. They are of course they are forged and have the best feel or at least equal to,  any multi material iron I have hit. I have seen them on sale below $500 brand new.

I see some votes for the sub70 irons which I think are nice. For me, the srixon irons are always on the definitely look at list.

I played out of our Pro’s bag a few weeks ago and he had 585/785 mix. Man, I hit those SO well!

... Yup Pmookie, them the ones. They are basically identical to previous models Amp Forged and Fly Z+ irons with a cosmetic change. I was playing AP2's and very happy with them until I hit the Amp Forged. Slightly better in every way but especially the look at address. So I switched to Cobra's and have played all 3 versions.

In the market to get some new irons, want to see where people are leaning?

What's your handicap and what do you currently play?  I recently went through a rather long process of deciding on new irons - including two iron fittings.  I hit Mizuno, Callaway, Taylormade, PING, and KZG. GI and SGI category irons best match my game.  It was down to the Mizuno JPX900 or PING G410.  Having played PE2's for over 30 years gave the nod to a company whose product had treated me so well for such a long time. It's been said PING is one of only a few major companies that cares more about making golfers better than making money.  I'm really liking the G410's and feel I made the best decision.  Good luck with the search.

I’m like the window shopper. Will go to Golf Galaxy and play around with clubs. The Ping G410 are real deal. I compared them to the Srixon 585 (loved the look, could shape left or right, short distance though) and Callaway Apex (ball rockets off, spraying it all over the place). The G410 were good distances with very consistent ball flight and dispersion. Just upgraded driver, wedge and putter, so will shelve these ideas until maybe next year

Hehe, I read how you tested every different iron known to man , then decided on the ping 410’s.., and I though, hmm, seems fair...

then I looked at your sig and saw that every stick in your bag is a Ping...

a little biased in your selection possibly?

and don’t get me wrong, I love my LST...

While I did test a bunch, it's not even a fraction of every iron available... and I'm only talking the well known brands. It's both great and overwhelming we have so many options these days.  I openly admitted it was the 30+ year marriage to my PE2's that gave the nod to the G410's over the Mizuno's.  The G410 driver was a bonus (THANKS AGAIN MGS!!), and, not wanting to break up perfect match, a used G400 3w seemed appropriate 😉 .

Anyone preorder the new p790s? I’ve hit them a few times, and must say they are amazing irons. The distance and forgiveness is insane! I’m not sure I feel too much of a difference with the new vss technology in the shaft, but that could just be me. The weight of the head is great, it feels like you can identify where the club head is throughout the swing, which is great for working the ball. Somehow hit a 233 yard 7 iron on the gcquad...stupid long.
