But I can tell you about it. The first day was almost perfect. The course is so perfect it looks like artificial turf. The weather was beautiful even though nippy for us Texans. Every time the warmth of the sun went behind a cloud we put lifted jacket hoods and a few times put on wind pants. Some our players did the same. We will prepare for cooler and windier conditions today. We didn’t hear any negative comments in the crowd about pace of play but did read about it in the news. I commented to my husband a couple of times how long it took a player to get ready to putt. Looking back on that it was always a European team member. Gleneagles and Scotland are beautiful and a lush green right now. I sent a few photos to another spy so hopefully they can post those for you to see. Good atmosphere - all of the spectators are friendly. Even though the overwhelming support is for Europe, they do respectfully clap and yell good shot for the Americans. No booing or grumbling even though there were a few sighs. I understand we were even on TV, standing behind players on #10 tee box. Sent from my iPad using MyGolfSpy Si cool that yiure there. While its not your traditonal Scottish links, the course looks amazing. After the pavilion photos is one snapped from where we were standing to the right of tee box #10 along with a few as the players came through. The next to the last one (with a guy bent over) is something I hadn’t seen before - two people following behind each group filling in all divots and picking up any trash. artful_golfer
Day 2 was a brutal and exciting adventure. I loved every second even though I couldn’t feel my toes in my cold wet shoes. We were so excited to watch Danielle Kang make her birdie putt on #17 to win the match and tie the overall score. We stayed till the end and that putt meant we were only a 2 hole hike to a waiting, warm shuttle bus! The bus ride into the Perth park-and-ride is about 20-25 minutes. It’s a little tense to ride on a double decker bus in strong winds and watch the driver try to stay our skinny lane - somewhat successful. We had taxi waiting for a 10 minute ride to our AirBnB loft in downtown Perth. Not sure how these ladies managed to hold on to their clubs in these conditions. Masterful job US! As we viewed the on course TV screens we thought they made it look much better than the weather conditions were in person. I think Carlotta Ciganda looked the most miserable of all the players. Above photos are taken looking on #1 tee box. Exciting festive atmosphere. When Americans tried to chant support for our team, so many Europe fans chanting would over power them. Followed by laughs from everyone. I understand this cardboard periscope is common at tournaments but it was my first time to see one. This shortie could actually see over the crowd! The next two I stopped to snap looking both ways down the long #18 as we walked across it. Dried our shoes overnight on the radiator and now headed back out for day 3. Should be another exciting day. Cold but less wind and no rain forecast. artful_golfer
Solheim Cup was definitely exciting to watch today. It warmed up nicely and the crowds were larger and rowdier and more fun. We kept thinking surely USA could find another 1/2 point but not to be. The crowd came for great matches so they were ecstatic. The above photo is looking across #17 green at the crowd. Some holes are so beautiful and ideal. This is looking down #7. Lisette Salas is in the fairway. One last photo. Just below the red arrow is a clever guy in the stands holding up 2 yellow inflated noise tubes. With every tee shot on #1 he moves his the tubes slowly right, left or straight forward to indicated the direction of the drive. Helped those of us loosing the drives as they came toward us know where to look. Headed home to Texas soon and back to my Wilson D7 Challenge review. A game of what might have been on the Europe side as well Charley Hull halving her match when a par on 18 would have got her the point and Anna Van Dame. She was amazing on Friday but someone needs to talk to her about hole strategy, her decision making on both Saturday and Sunday on 18 cost her one and half points.
