For the last 12 years I owned a Pub and got to play lots of golf.  I sold the pub and retired.  I got bored and took a job as General Manager of a country club.  I play split rounds now.  In the morning the pro and I play nine and in the afternoon the Super and I play the other nine.  Some days I play with the members if the invite me.

I posted on here in 2016, so since I’ve changed jobs, here’s an update:
I work for the world’s largest Eye Bank.... Our company is one that will come and collect the eyes of organ donors, then we use the various “parts” for corneal transplant. I specifically call on Ophthalmic Surgeons, try to get them to use our corneal tissue, and sell them the devices used for the surgery, as well as train them HOW to do the surgery. Being in the OR is enjoyable, and it’s pretty crazy that I teach SURGEONS how to do their job! They went to school for 14 years, not me! Hahaha!
I cover 8 states and travel WAY too much for my liking. I’d still love to figure out how I can get back to coaching, but I’m 50 with 15/11/7 year old kids... Not gonna happen until I’m 70!
Hoping I can stay in Ophthalmology, but work for another company with a smaller territory.

Hope it works out for you, I know how hard it is to raise kids those ages and have to travel a lot for work. I have 11 & 7 yr old boys and just recently retired from the Air Force. Thankfully I found a good paying job, where I don't have to travel anymore. I'm currently an estimator and do some design build projects for a mechanical contractor.

I hope your retirement is in BA stock...my goodness what a gold mine.

I'm a property tax valuation negotiator for a large oil and gas company. I ensure we pay a fair share of our taxes to the local jurisdictions on one of our refineries along the Texas Gulf Coast. I do the same thing when you protest your property taxes, just with a few more commas in the value. Texas is a great state but their property tax laws need to be revamped because this is getting out of control for both home owner and business owner.

I've responded in here long ago, but this needs to be replied to since my career path in the 2-way radio has morphed dramatically over the course of 33-years. When I started as a Ground Radio Repair Communications technician (2841) in the Marines, I wound up working exclusively on the VRC (Vehicular, Radio, Communications, M1A1, Green😛) series of radios that still operated with tubes. Digital technology was just barely beginning to show up as I left for the civilian sector and has continued to advance every year since. Now the big Motorola Astro stuff I take care of is basically a giant IP network with a tiny RF (radio frequency) element attached on the end. Therefore I've been forced (sometimes kicking & screaming) to become less of a radio guy and more of an IT geek. Routers, switched and hubs, OH MY! Had to take Network Plus and constantly need all kinds of certifications to keep up. I'm pretty good at it now (I kinda have to be), but I constantly joke about how all this damn technology that is supposed to make life easier can also be the bane of my existence. My mantra when things go awry? "This is what happens when IT dweebs have taken over the earth!"🤓

Unfortunately, I'm one of them...🤫

Wow, you have a cool job.

One highlight of paramedic school for me was assisting a Dr. performing an enucleation. Without getting into detail, it was the second most incredible procedure I’ve ever been witness to (first was a CABG During orotracheal intubation rotations). The anatomy lesson was incredible. One of those, hey, I need a student to assist who can you spare. I’ll never forget it.

Since some guys are updating and for the new folks. I’m a fireman. Pretty straightforward.

Can you be an old fart and a geek? Sure you can!

61 and been in IT since ‘83, in a field I never wanted to go into. Go figure, right?

Went from being a phone support guy to a programmer to a systems admin, all on the Unix side (and most flavors there of). Then into capacity planning.

Now I’m a cloud guy working for a large telco (can you hear me now?) Cloud architect on the Oracle cloud. I write policies that determines who can access what resources within the cloud and how resources are laid out within the cloud.

It’s been fun to jump into a new field of the ever changing IT world

I commend you for being a teacher. I was such a piece of sh*t when I was that age I can't imagine putting up with kids like me! I was that typical case where they made excuses like I "wasn't being challenged enough" but in reality I was just a little a hole. Welcome to MGS glad you're enjoying the waters round here!

I'm active duty prior enlisted Navy officer. I did my first 10.5 years enlisted and earned my commission via Officer Candidate School aka 'summer camp' in 2010. Hi Master Chief 🙂

I'm active duty prior enlisted Navy officer. I did my first 10.5 years enlisted and earned my commission via Officer Candidate School aka 'summer camp' in 2010. I've dabbled in networking and communications my entire career and I'm planning on retiring in 2023 so I'm excited for the proverbial next chapter!

Thank you for your service!   I had considered going officer during my career, but my particular field would have limited my future career moves had I done so, including no further duty in submarines.  In retrospect, my retirement pay would have been better but I never really regretted my decision.  Good luck with the rest of your time in service and again, thank you!

Hi everyone!  I was in IT for a handful of years. Started with tapes, then mainframe production support, then Problem Manager (central support ctr type stuff) for Prudential.  I gave that up, went back to school and now I'm a mechanical engineer for the Army.  🙂

As a side hussle with a couple friends, I design and build snowboards 🙂

I'm 38. I work in the Casino industry as the General Manager of a property in Northern New Mexico. I play about 20 rounds per year (sometimes more) and have gotten my handicap to about 5. Casino Gaming has been a fun gig for the last 17 years.

United States Air Force, 14.5 years. I am a UNIX system administrator/Network Administrator. I do a little programming here and there when i want to automate a task that i do often. Basically, i support high end technical computing applications and do a lot of "making peoples lives easier" type of tasks. I also do some/dabble with network security/forensics on the side. I guess i am a geek all the way.

I have been depolyed twice and would not trade the experience for anything.

I really like this board so far, hopefully we can keep it growing with good people.

Thank you for your service! #aimhigh
