When does the hole look bigger?

Recommended Posts

Been thinking about my sports in the past.  When I was hot at the plate in baseball and softball, the ball looked the size of a beach ball coming at me. No way I could miss. When I struggled I might as well been swing at a pea.

Im a streaky putter like many of us, but the hole never gets bigger during this time. It does seem to get smaller when Im struggling though.

Imagine if a basketball goal changed height and the floors pitch was mechanically adjusted after every shot????? Oh yeah and throw in a big industrial fan just to make things interesting..........what would Steph Curry’s shooting % be??????

I don't see a different size hole,   when my putting is on,  I see a line from the ball into the hole.

Always looks the same to me. Like Cnosil I visualise an invisible line. And I prefer the pin out 99% of the time.

Good point....I had a round out at Arrowhead CC this summer.  I was putting lights out for me.  On the drive back to Salem my playing partner mentioned how good I putted.  I said it was almost like I could actually see a line at times.

I still think the hole get smaller:)

It’s hard to have a bad experience at arrowhead. That place is pure.

At my place, we have 2” cups in the practice green. Putt at one of those for 15 minutes before a round, then the holes look like they are 3 times as big...

I live in Keizer but work in Woodburn.  Real tempting to join Arrowhead or Willamette.  Arrowheads are the purest greens I've ever played, but Ive been told Willamettes are even nicer.

@pulledabill I've got to get in your neck of the woods and play some golf.  We have several reciprocal courses in the Salem/Portland area.  I just don't get up there enough to play.

I used to get that sense after a long practice putting session, an hour or so, like the hole just looked bigger. I’d sit out at 10 feet and could put it at will into the left edge, right edge, middle, fast or slow. It was a neat feeling. It’s been a while...

I keep trying to get your way so  I can jump across the border for some goodies, but it just hasn't played out quite right yet.

When I putt looking at the hole, it never looks bigger or smaller to me.  Some days the ball goes in better than other days, but I think it's related to my stroke feeling good and having better speed control.
