Bridgestone/TourStage Z101 anybody?

So I know that Bridgestone is not the hot brand that everybody's after but I've found their stuff very intriguing since doing the 2018 wedge test.

Short story long, I've got a possible chance to get my hands on some lightly used TourStage Z101s.

Reading some very aged reviews, as these clubs are probably a good 8-10 yrs old, it seems that these may be some "Holy Grail" clubs. Apparently TourStage was revered as a top-class Japanese forging group.

If anybody happens to have any further info to share about these clubs or TourStage please feel free to share.

Thanks!!

the more I practice, the luckier I seem to get..

I’ve known a few sticks that played them. They share the same formula as some other “holy grail” types - compact with a tungsten load behind the sweet spot. Adams MB2 and CMB are a similar tungsten loaded players design that I personally love. But I can’t speak to the marshmallow forging status on the TourStage Z101.

... Z101's are one of the iron sets I really regret selling. At the time, they were the Holy Grail for many reasons including forging, feel, look at address, head size and playability. But compared to modern irons they are now just another set of really good irons. But if the price is right and you like the look, they could be a great set to pick up.

Well the price is $free.99.. sort of. I'm trying to work a trade for another item that I have no financial "interest" in that received and won't be using. if that makes any sense.

I'm really looking for an older set of smaller and more bladed players clubs.. kind of like having a modern sports car for daily use but keeping an 80's 911 in the garage for some nostalgic kicks from time to time.

I'm also considering some Bridgestone j36 blades or something from the Mizzy lineup circa 2010.

the more I practice, the luckier I seem to get..

... Then I think the Z101's fit that description. I loved mine and made the mistake of selling them for some Tour Stage MR23 US Spec irons that had a reputation for being even better than the Z101's with a slightly smaller head and even better feel. Bought them sight unseen (other than pictures) from Japan. But they had an extreme amount of camber and I actually preferred the Z101's. Interestingly the MR23's sold for $1200 and at that time which was insanely expensive and I just could not justify playing irons I didn't love that were over $1k and sold them for a slight profit. I tried to find another mint set of Z101's but I never did. Most definitely in the top 5  of irons I have played.

Excellent info and very encouraging. I'll be meeting with my contact here in a week or so. Hopefully it all works out.

Thanks for the input

Hey @Chisag

While I have your attention, and to change brands for a second, any experience with Mizuno MP-54's? I've also got a possible change to land a set of these. They seem to possibly fit in that aforementioned category.

Thanks again for your help!

... A friend of mine is still playing MP54's and he absolutely loves them. I would put them in the modern pocket cavity category though, not a classic old school forging like the Z101's.
