Online discount golf clubs

I recently started looking on line for discount prices on a Ping K15. Most retailers (Golf Galaxy, TGW, Golfsmith) sell them for $299 with no discounts available through coupons, sales, etc. I found a couple of discount etailers (discountsgolfclubs.com, allflexrsportus.tk) selling brand new K15's for under $200. Anyone have experience with these? I thought new Ping clubs were not allowed to be discounted by the manufacturer.

Thanks,

Vic

Yeah, I checked out that site (discountsgolfclubs.com) and their prices are way too low to be legit. They have Scotty Camerons for $150, something is fishy.

If you could find these places, why doesn't the OEM act ?

I think if they are selling oughtright counterfits they will eventually get busted. I know a few years ago the Feds caught some guys just up the road in North Carolina actually manfacturing counterfit Scotty Cameron putters. In fact those guys came into our shop trying to sell us some of them. We did not bite we knew they were either counterfit or stolen. We were a Titleist dealer at he time and we informed our rep when he showed up a couple of weeks later and he said the company was well aware of it and wait and see. A month or so later we read in the paper about the bust. Sometimes they take their time to get solid evidence to get a conviction as a friend of mine in law enforcement told me

Ya generally if you see something like that where the price is too good to be true it is. Online retailers have to adhere to manufacture approved prices and can't really stray from those otherwise they will be punished by the manufacturer and they obviously don't want that. I know for Ping especially they have a certain price they want everything to be sold at so I would go with a retailer you know and trust if your buying online

I get a few customers every year come in with an obvious counterfeit they get online at a ridiculous price. They always come in with a warranty issue (head or shaft failure, etc.) and want us to do something for them. The companies do not tread lightly on these fakes. A couple years ago, my Callaway Rep told me they figured almost 75% of goods on Ebay were fake. I'm sure that number has risen with more overseas foundries and economic downturns. As with any transaction in which you don't know the vendor and especially if they do not have brick and mortar location(s) the buyer should beware. Just my opinion and thoughts to save people money and embarassment.

It's much too easy to believe that these things should not cost as much as they do. The OEM's no longer, on the whole, do their own forging or casting and are reduced to being brands on products manufactured elsewhere. On the one hand this practice validates legitimate component producers and on the other reduces major producers to very large component producers.

The real difference between a legitimate producer and a counterfeit producer is that the legitimate takes care and caution to produce a quality product that will reflect well on the brand. The counterfeiter is only interested in copying the looks of that product and riding on the earned reputation of the brand. However it dismays me to learn that legitimate producers are very casual about protecting the legitimacy of their product. Being merely a consumer, I would be more inclined to stay with my old and proven than to explore the new in hopes of finding better, especially as that area is peppered with counterfeits. It's much easier for me to simply stop buying because these products are long lasting in any case and design improvements are not necessarily worth the added expense.

I would very much like to see the OEM's go after the counterfeit retailers and manufacturers but if they choose a laid back look at from afar, it makes better sense to me to refrain from buying new stuff for as long as my old stuff can still serve.
