Arccos and Ping

I’m not sure if this is old news or not nor if I am posting this in the appropriate place but I was on the Ping website today and saw something quite interesting. As many of you know, Ping and Arrcos have begun to partner up recently and they are offering a promotion. Ping is sending out 14 Arrcos sensors to qualified owners of Ping equipment for free along with a 90-day trial of the Arrcos System. There are 30+ qualifying products and it is easy to sign up. Shipping is free for the sensors and you can cancel anytime within the 90 days. I have been interested in trying Arrcos and this seems to be the most cost-effective way to do it. Again, if this is old news or in the wrong place, I apologize but I wanted to pass the info along to my fellow Spies.

Anyone have a full set of qualifying clubs but not want sensors? Let’s make a deal.

In all seriousness even though it’s just a 90 day trial that’s a sweet deal for them to extend back a bit.

Just ordered mine. Bought a full set of G410' in July. Followed the link from Golf Spy MPR and it worked perfectly. Took about 5 minutes to download the app and order the sensors. I've tried GPS devices in the past and always returned to my rangefinder, so this will be an interesting trip to take.

So is there anyone here who could compare Arrcos to Shot Scope? Perhaps I should post that question elsewhere.

It may not be a  widely popular opinion, but  I've had both and in my experiences arccos was/is miles better in.  I may have written a detailed comparison in the arcoss thread a while back.  In short my  big pet peeve was the need for a practice swing in order to "activate" the shotscope and it missed several shots.   Editing is much easier for arccos as well.

The one advantage shotscope had was tracking putts, it's system is better than arccos in that regard.   But I think there is an update coming for arccos that should improve that.

I almost PMd you but thought others might be interested in this.

How does arccos capture proximity to the hole?

Best I can tell it doesn't really.  It's been a while since I've played a round with the sensors, they can't keep up with my club changes...Ha

But say you hit your 7 iron approach into the front part of the green, with the flag in the middle so say a 30 foot putt.

Once you make your first putt, it records that stroke,   say you come up 2 feet short, you have to putt it in to record it.  There is a plus minus indicator on the screen for number of putts.  so it should read two putts, and the total distance of the two and it will know how far your first putt was based on where your second stroke took place.

As I said, it's definitely not as accurate as Shotscope where you tag the flag location at the end.

from what I've heard and read the iOS version of the app is WAYYYYYY better than Android.

it might behoove you to get a cheap iphone, throw in an old and outdated SIM card and use that strictly for Arccos....can always try Android but if it acts up this is a secondary option vs giving it all up.

I wasn’t sure if anyone else had posted this yet, but PING is giving away a set of Arccos sensors to current customers that own any of 30 different clubs that they list on their website, or to anyone that purchases a PING club.IMG_3711.JPG

I have Shotscope but have ordered these to try.

I had the original Arccos product but stopped using it because you had to carry your phone in your pocket to work with the sensors and that ended up being a no-go for me.

With the Shotscope you have a GPS watch that also detects the shots. Their recommendation to take a practice swing was a non-issue for me as I always take one.

HOWEVER, after ordering these I saw a tweet indicating that if you buy the Arccos sensors you get the App for FREE. PING/Arccos is giving away the sensors but after 90 days you have to subscribe to the Arccos app for $100/yr. Are the Arccos sensors useless without the Arccos Caddie app or is there a version of the Arccos app that doesn't use the Caddie info?

I'm sure someone who currently has Arccos can comment for sure but my understanding is that you must have the app in order to use to see/use any data from the sensors which makes the app imperative. That said, I figure I have 3 months to determine whether I want to spend $99 a year or not. If I don't find it worth the money, I will cancel the subscription and I have lost nothing.

@Nunfa0 talked about the comparison at great length during Cobra challenge and @JohnSmalls should be comparing as we speak. Both of these guys were official testers for ShotScope so I’d reckon they’ve experienced all the systems offer and should have a definitive feeling on both.

To the OP, I’ve got my free set coming by Friday. I already had Arccos so this gave me the opportunity to bless one of my golf buddies with a free set. He’ll never get on a forum so I’ll speak for his experience.
It’s a funny juxtaposition with a guy who plays a set where his newest club is probably 10 years old but he’s using cutting edge data. I fully expected him to say thanks, but not for me. Much to my surprise, he’s loving the feedback and has been digging deep into the data. A recent round of 67 (-5) is fire🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

If you are going to try them, stay away from the iWatch app.....I have had nothing but issues with it and I have been with a since February.

Mine should be here Saturday. Still not sure I’ll use them or not. I pretty much know that my short game and putting kills me. I also can’t see myself keeping my phone in my pocket the whole round. Heck, I don’t even like having tees and divot tools in my pockets!

You can get the Arccos Caddie Link which clips to your belt to register the shots instead of using your phone. They are Out of Stock now but are listed as selling for $79.

If any of you guys trying the sensors out end up liking Arccos, I'm selling my sensors (they don't require the yearly subscription to my knowledge) in the classifieds. Great system and I LOVE the stats, but the battery anxiety just doesn't quite work for me, and the Link is too far delayed.

Struggled with this system yesterday, and I HATE the phone in the pocket! No idea of how to add shots mid-round, so I ended the round after 9 holes, then re-started another round for the back nine. Deleted both. I don’t know if there’s any way I use this thing going forward without the belt clip device. There’s NO way I’m playing with a phone in my pocket!
I may just “return” the sensors to Arccos. I don’t really need the stats... I suck right now and I know why without Arccos telling me.
I’d rather wear the Shot Scope watch....

I saw the PING ad about the "free" sensors. Curious how all of you found the durability of the sensors since they will be banging continuously on the bottom of the bag.
