I saw the PING ad about the "free" sensors. Curious how all of you found the durability of the sensors since they will be banging continuously on the bottom of the bag.

That’s my main concern too. They fit really snug on the irons. The putter one is not very good. It sits on standard PING putter grip very poorly.

I also couldn’t get the driver sensor to tighten all the way.

I will say I was in the Anti Tech camp. But I don’t even have to keep score anymore. Gives some very useful information, and are hardly noticeable (aside from the putter).

Thought I’d hate the phone in my front pocket, but after a few holes I didn’t even notice it.

I saw an ad for a sensor for putters. Is the Link device available yet - that was supposed to eliminate the phone in the pocket issue.

I’ve had mine for over a year and have zero issues with them.

Got in on this offer as well with my G700s. I've been a dedicated Game Golf guy for three+ years now, so this will be an interesting test.

My biggest concerns going in:

  • like tagging shots manually. There's no guessing, wondering if it accidentally picked up my practice swing or missed my real shot. I've been doing it for so long that tagging is fully ingrained in my preshot routine. Not tagging is actually awkward for me by now.
  • I don't like having the phone part active during the round. I keep my phone in my pocket already, so that's no issue. But even though I have a GG Live (which pairs with the phone during the round), I don't pair it. I use the GG Live like a GG Classic, uploading my shots when the round is over. When I had it running on the phone during the round, I find myself fiddling with details (penalty shots, putts from off the green, etc.) to make sure the data is right. It becomes a distraction to my game, especially if I can't get everything just how it should be.
  • I'm a dedicated Android guy, and there seem to be recurring issues on that platform.

But the price is right for making the comparison!

Today was my first round with Arrcos - it was relatively painless. I had to change two scores where it gave me an extra putt but it was easy to to do. iPhone 8+

Arrcos says it will use approximately 40% of battery life and that's exactly what it did. I honestly thought I wouldn't like it and while I only have one round in - I really enjoyed it.

I’m going to give this another try in California this weekend. I don’t like the phone in the pocket, and I leave my phone on the seat of the cart during my rounds as I use GolfShot to keep score, check GPS, etc, so when I played last weekend, I kept leaving the phone on the seat and missed a bunch of shots. I need to look-up how to add shots and “save”, because when I did add a shot, Arccos never moved-on to the next hole.... I PRAY the belt clip comes back into stock!

It closes out the hole when you use the next club.

I haven’t had any trouble getting it to go to the next hole. It’s almost like a set it and forget it thing.

Like you, I don’t like having stuff in my pocket while playing. Just give it a try to turn it on, lock phone and leave in pocket. It takes some getting used to, but that is the best way I can find to avoid “thinking” about it. The last thing we need to do is think out there.

Once the caddie portion is unlocked I am not even sure I’ll use it. I pretty much know my distances, and usually don’t have any issue picking the right club. Plus I send a lot of knock downs out. Will arcoss tell me to hit a Knockdown 9 to that 120 yard pin?

If it does, that is awesome. If it doesn’t it will be a good stat tracker.

Question on the Arccos thing -

does the phone need to have actual cellular service to work?

My main phone is an Android but i have an older iPhone that I can throw an old sim card in and use but it won't have cell service.  Will that work?  Do the sensors just need a bluetooth connection?

I'd rather not swap my 'real' sim card into the iphone and from everything I read the Android app kinda sucks so I'd like to use the iphone one.

Sound like leaving it in the cart will screw up the readings according to their support site...one other thing to consider is how far away you are when you hit - bluetooth signals typically don't reach very far so it might not even pick it up.

Because Arccos utilizes the GPS functionality of the iPhone to know where you hit your shots from, it is imperative that you keep the iPhone on your person when you play.  If you leave the phone in your cart, when you hit a shot the iPhone will take a GPS reading from wherever the phone is instead of where you actually are.  For example, if you leave your phone in your golf cart and go toward the putting green and take a chip and a putt, Arccos will think you hit that chip and putt from wherever your cart was.

You can collect data without sim card and the upload via wifi at home for example.

It has been a while since I did it this way, and I believe you won't be able to use the caddie features. I don't use them so it made no difference but I think that is the only feature that is not there.

As long as the phone isn't too old for the latest Arccos app. I ran into that issue with an older Android phone that I wanted to use this way.

I just ordered mine last earlier this week.  Crazy deal as I bought a G400 LST driver when it went on sale pre-G410, but they are still sending 14 sensors!

We will see how this works with my low-rent Android phone.  May have to hijack the kids iPhone for four hours on weekends.

Got my sensors Tuesday. I got them all installed paired them all up on my phone this afternoon. (I had to use a Sharpie to label some of the Game Golf tags I was removing, because they had been worn smooth.)

Then I got to the course to find it closed for the winter. Sniffle:

IMG_20191025_141545.jpeg

So I sent an email to Arccos asking if they'd be willing to cancel my subscription to Caddie and to delay the free three months until next season. I'd like to hope that they'd work with me here.

UPDATE: OK, that's seriously impressive. Within 20 minutes of my initial email to them, Arccos replied and offered to cancel my subscription and allow me to restart the Caddie trial next spring. They are already getting one major vote for me over Game Golf on that front.

It uses Bluetooth for the initial pairing only -- it uses the microphone in your device to track the shot itself after that.

I was using it with a Pixel 3 currently running the latest Android version (10) but was using it with version 9 previously. You can tell that the app is designed with iOS in mind. The app functions well on my Pixel, but the battery drain is just unbearable. I don't want to not be able to look at football scores or whatever else I want to do between shots with fear that my battery will die before I finish the round, and that's why I'm selling it.

My plan was to stick it out for the Link, I even pre-ordered it, but the delays put me off and there's no reason to keep it around for potentially another year.

How does arccos capture proximity to the hole?

It tries to estimate the position of the hole.  Based on what, I don't know.  I make a note of how far I was from the hole on my first putt on the scorecard.  Then I spend about 10 minutes after every round adjusting the flag position and making other little fixes like where drives ended up (if you're on the edge of the FW/rough, it doesn't always detect this properly).

The not-yet-released Link device is supposed to have a button you can click to set the pin location.

I'm sure someone who currently has Arccos can comment for sure but my understanding is that you must have the app in order to use to see/use any data from the sensors which makes the app imperative.

You need the app to collect the data.  I rarely take the phone out of my pocket, but you must be running the app and select the course you're playing to gather data.

You can get the Arccos Caddie Link which clips to your belt to register the shots instead of using your phone. They are Out of Stock now but are listed as selling for $79.

It's not where they want it to be, so they are delaying the release.  That's the big concern.  It's not really out of stock; it's not finished.  I believe they're having trouble sourcing a good enough GPS chip.

No idea of how to add shots mid-round

Honestly, I don't do it.  If you're the type that can remember what club you hit and from where, it's easier to add shots and do other editing on a computer, rather than using your phone.  I prefer to leave my phone in my pocket and not touch it while I'm playing.  I really don't use the caddy feature on courses I know.  It is helpful to plan tee shots on unfamiliar courses.

The putter one is not very good. It sits on standard PING putter grip very poorly.

I put a little shim in the hole in my putter grip to make it fit tighter.  But you're right... it won't sit flush like on other grips.  It's an ugly look.

I'm a dedicated Android guy, and there seem to be recurring issues on that platform.

It depends upon the phone.  It's been absolute garbage on my last two phones (Moto G6 and G7).  Completely unusable.  It was great on my old Samsung J7 (a cheap piece of crap).  I'm using my daughter's old iPhone 5s as a dedicated Arccos device right now.

Will arcoss tell me to hit a Knockdown 9 to that 120 yard pin?

Heck no.  That's why I only use the Caddy functionality for tee shots on unfamiliar courses.  And if you hit lots of off-speed shots, you may get some funny stats on short irons.  But once you get enough data with full-swing shots, the knockdowns should be treated as outliers.

could prob pick up an iphone SE on flea bay pretty cheap too.

That's how I started out.  The SE is a great dedicated device for Arccos.  But it is an extra expense.

It has been a while since I did it this way, and I believe you won't be able to use the caddie features. I don't use them so it made no difference but I think that is the only feature that is not there.

If your main phone can act as a hotspot, you can hook your Arccos phone to it and have complete functionality.  It's also helpful if you forget to download new courses before leaving the house (like me).

No, no... Thank _You_, Ping Golf USA!

Pulled these out of the mailbox after an hour of shoveling snow and pondered the potential of my three month trial period expiring without ever having an opportunity to test drive.

Called Arccos HQ (they answered on the first ring) to inquire about suspending my trial period until the Spring. No dice - however, they were kind enough to _extend_ my trial until April 1st. Thank you Arccos!!!

YMMV but it’s probably worth a call.

For those of you have set up your sensors on the app, did you have to provide a credit card number? If so, does it show up in your online account?
